Our PA subs have wheels but are designed to sit on their sides on rubber feet. This is what I used to do when I was using big cabs - big wheels on the bottom to roll everything in but I screwed in extra feet to that they could stack sitting on their sides.

When I buy any bass I set the eq to how I like it and this is what goes to the desk. If my FOH sound needs to be changed then that's the job of the mixing desk Any tweeks that are made to the amp to change my on stage sound to prevent booming etc do not affect what goes out front as I have my amp set to output the DI pre-eq. If you adjust the settings on your bass during the gig then you are changing what comes out front. Unless there is something specifically wrong with your FOH sound which cannot be fixed by adjusting the settings on the desk then you could be messing up the balance that you got when you did the soundcheck.

I changed from a Stingray 5 to a Sterling 4 due to a shoulder problem I had. A wide padded strap can help but for me it's moving around as much as I can on stage as it moves the bass around your shoulder instead of it sitting at the one point all night

The would be my first reaction as well - before spending lots of cash on trying various things for them to moan at, ask them what they would like. They've told you that they want to feel the bass but complained when you put an amp on stage so that they could feel the bass. It's like someone asking you to make a chocolate cake but that they don't want it to contain any chocolate, or be a cake

To me punchiness has as much to do with the bass as the amp and you certainly have the right bass to be punchy so I would also say Gallien Krueger for the amp

I've found more at £29.99 and decided to get one for my Stingray https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blake-Bravo-bass-guitar-case-New/253609036586?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Still 5 left when I posted this - the seller has it at BIN or best offer but says that the best offer was a mistake but £30 is still cheap for what seems a decent gig bag

I nearly ordered a headless Status Stealth 6 fretless a few years back when they were still around the £2000 mark - now I won't go above 4 strings I also keep a cheap fretless in the livingroom to remind me why I don't play fretless - I can't get the punchy, snappy tone that I want from a fretless so there it sits as a reminder. Still doesn't stop me wanting one from time to time

I've had a couple of 15" setups including 2 x Ashdown ABM115s, Trace 1524 2x15" and the V-type 1528 which at one point I paired with a V-type 1248H 4x12" and Gallien Krueger 1001RB for 96kgs of thunder

Crack Converters Jazz-Ray
Delberthot replied to lowregisterhead's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
The serial number dates the neck plate at 1960-61 and the neck, if original is 87-91 when they changed to the 6 bolt neck. The pickups will be 1990ish to 95 It's certainly interesting -
I think equally importantly is what bass do you play? Some combinations go well together depending on what sort of sound you are after - for me it is Musicman and Gallien Krueger
-
I too went from a Rumble 500 combo to GK MB200 & Barefaced One 10. I soon changed the amp to an MB500. The main reason for the change was that I wanted something smaller, lighter and that I could attach to a speaker stand to have it at ear level. The Rumble did sound really good when using both my Yamaha BB1025 and SR5 but my sound has revolved around Gallien Krueger and Musicman for a good few years now. I've gone in different directions with both bass and amp/cab but keep coming back to this combination

I love EMGs as well. They are quite straightforward if you follow the wiring instructions as the wires clip into the pots. The only time you would need to solder would be for the barrel jack socket that theses basses have rather than the usual ones you would find in Fenders etc but I have seen ones made up on Ebay that have the solderless cables attached

Advice needed about entry to 5 string
Delberthot replied to meltedbuzzbox's topic in General Discussion
Absolutely. They certainly are one of the cheapest strings out there but they are the best for me and unless something else comes along that is significantly better then I'll never change to another brand. But if DR Legend Flats at £72 a set are what give you the best sound and feel the best to play then buying a cheaper set of strings will only disappoint you and make you wish that you'd paid the extra to get the ones you really wanted -
I bought dozens of plectrums in order to find the one that was right for me in all thicknesses and materials. My personal issue was that I couldn't find one that I could hold without exerting a lot of pressure on it which made my hand hurt after a while. The answer for me was Herco heavy gauge and i found them completely by accident. Happened to be reading an article on Chris Squire and that was what he used so I tried them and they worked

So that will be D'addarios then You're welcome -
Sterlings have never been as popular as Stingrays so go for much cheapness. The necks are slim and I find them incredibly comfortable to play. They have ceramic pickups and 3 band EQ so won't sound like your Stingray Classic did but I love them. As with the other models, the prices have rocketed in the last couple of years - when I bought my Sterling new in March 2016 the retail price was £1499, now it's around £2200
-
My favourite basses are Precisions and Stingrays/Sterlings so 34" for me I've had a few 30" ones and my TRB6 was a 35" - there may be others. I've never bought a bass for its scale, only because it looked nice and shiny

"Gilmour managed to do this in Pink Floyd, how hard can it be?"

How many songs can you play? (Without help/ music/ tabs)
Delberthot replied to T-Bay's topic in General Discussion
Unless we're talking swing or big band music there are only so many ways a song will go chord wise over the majority of pop songs. Using a combination of this and listening to the keyboard melody and vocals means that I've never had a problem playing tunes at a gig that I've never played or even heard of before. Sometimes, as Japhet also mentioned above, I'll be getting to a bit in a song where I don't remember what it does but my fingers seem to remember what to do. Is that my brain remembering the song or is it muscle memory or are they one and the same thing? -

I would think that it has to be over 1000 for me. I learned to play by ear so I've never had to rely on the dots, plus I've been playing in wedding bands for years so most gigs we are asked to play songs that we've never done before. -
If I was honest, there's nothing in our set list that I would play at home but They are songs that get people up and keep people up and most of them are really enjoyable to play. There are only 3 songs that I am aware of that I would say a definite "no" to - Sit Down by James, The Whole of the Moon by the Waterboys and All About the Bass When new songs are suggested, I may not like them or have even heard of them but I give them a chance.

String life, the good, the bad and just plain ugly
Delberthot replied to T-Bay's topic in General Discussion
I usually get about 50 hours of gigs and 20 hours of rehearsals out of my D'addarios before they need to be changed but I like my strings to be bright. As soon as they're not bright then they're off. They usually only take a few minutes after fitting before the tuning settles. FYI - my hands are always washed before I use them, my fingers aren't sweaty, I don't wipe the strings after use and I play with a heavy right hand -
I've decided that I'd like a Fender Precision as a trade (could still be open to others and I'd prefer a straight sale) I've tended to drift between Precision and Musicman type basses over the years so I figure that if I have both then I'm sorted and can swap from one to the other rather than selling one to buy the other Would prefer either a Japanese or US model but would consider a MIM depending on which model. It would also need to be in really good condition with no dings so roadworn is out for me. I'd also be interested in either a '51 or Sting single coil model
