  1. After years of having cabs pointing at the back of my legs or overkill dual 4x10" setups to get the volume near ear level and hating my sound, not getting enough top end and being too loud on stage, despite not actually being able to hear myself clearly I went for the cab on a stick approach I have a Gallien Krueger amp as experience has told me that I always go back to them as it gives me the sound I want. The barefaced One10 is purely because it's loud, light and has a top hat mount to put it on a speaker stand. Overall I love the sound. I can be as loud as I need to be on stage, I can hear myself clearly, the bottom end rumble isn't overpowering everything and it all fits in a cajon bag
  2. More or less what I thought - the bass was all over the place in terms of timing, note length and randomness - reminded me of one of those "shreds" videos. Maybe I'm not sophisticated enough for this type of music 🤔
  3. This was exactly the reason that I sold my one. You have to have it so loud to get the GK growl that it's too loud - the 700RB was easy to get the growl from
  4. D'addario EXLs are the smoothest roundwound string that I've found - are you currently looking for 40-95 or is that what you are using?
  5. I thought that this thread was going to be about setting up a music room in a conservatory. Still none the wiser 🤔
  6. I've got a brand new combine harvester and was going to give Mark King the keys but I could be open to offers of 10 times what I paid for it. I've also got a lovely bunch of coconuts that I picked personally for Mark - don't know if he likes coconuts but I got them anyway - £100 each or £500 for the bunch
  7. I once went out to buy the Robocop trilogy on DVD and ended up buying a new car
  8. I've seen Fender, La Bella, GHS and Overwater strings with black silks before but not just before they go around the tuner. I don't recall ever seeing D'addarios with black silks and you can't see the ball ends of theses in the picture - D'addarios usually have different colours for each string
  9. That's my favourite lineup as well - the only odd thing (yes just the one) I found about Yes when I saw them is: whereas most bands speed up their songs when they play live, Yes played them very slowly and deliberately to the point where they tended to drag. I like Drama as well and it took a while before I realised it was Trevor Horn on vocals - Tempus Fugit is my favourite song off that album
  10. Has the door maybe popped open inside your bag and been damaged in transit with something sitting against it? Mine lives attached to my strap by a plastic zip tie at the top and a strip of velcro that goes around the unit at the battery door section so it's always closed. Only time the velcro comes off is to change the batteries. If it's still active, maybe someone on the line6 forum could assist or has already done it? You're right though, there's been so many threads on many forums that someone is bound to have done it at some point
  11. The Gallien MB500 has a switchable headphone/line out
  12. no such luck I'm afraid - brand new set of D'addario XLs were put on it. TBH I didn't think to make sure that the pickups were working before changing the strings. I've never had a faulty pickup before - faulty preamp but never a faulty pickup
  13. I like the blue one - shiny 🙂
  14. I found this one the other day
  15. £1600 eh? If I get on with the Jazz I've just bought then I can see me buying one of those depending on how this Fender pickup sounds. I'm guessing that this is a mock up based on the fact that the neck plate look to be the wrong shape, or the heel is or semething
  16. It's an easy mistake to make - you're getting mixed up with the new Fender China Confucius bass 😀
  17. Been using my G30 for several years and haven;t encountered any issues that would want me to change to something else. I change batteries before every gig so that I'm not caught short during the night. I use Duracell Industrials which work out at around 26p a gig
  18. My favourite band name is a local band called Richard Stilgoe's Wheelbarrow Full of MIlk 😀 I was in a Black Sabbath tribute band, being Scottish we went under the name of Mac Sabbath - easily about 100 tonnes of PA and lights, wigs, the whole shooting match Quite possibly uniquely, we were our own warm up act as we also went out as Das Rainbow - our singer, affectionately known as Baldy Jim was of similar stature to Ronnie James Dio
  19. After a couple of days with these magnets attached and checking every so often the result is that they've done exactly nothing I've decided to replace both pickups and get myself a new wiring loom while I'm at it as one of the volumes is a touch scratchy. BTW there was no magnet attached underneath so assume that the poles themselves are magnetic I've gone for a '62 neck pickup and '75 bridge pickup - both are Fender parts
  20. Great for 'board meetings
  21. In a wedding/function band there's no such thing as a ridiculous request. I've played some right rubbish over the years that I'd never heard of - luckily our keyboard player has a huge repertoire of forgotten classics so I just follow him. A few weeks back it was the other way around - we got asked for Wishing Well by Free and me and the guitarist had played it years ago in a rock band. The singer did a really good job of it as he'd never sung it before and had to look up the lyrics.
  22. I managed to find a couple of rare earth magnets I already had in the house and put them on the poles about 5pm last night. I've just checked them and there does seem to be a bit of magnetism in the poles now so I'm going to leave them on the for the rest of the day and see how they are tonight
  23. The NYXLs are slightly lower tension than the normal nickels. My usual XL165 strings are - 42.52, 48.35, 45.34, 38.08 (G,D,A,E) The equivalent NYXLs are - 40.28, 47.06, 44.58, 36.96 At this time of year I am not surprised at the rate that your strings are dying - we've played some really hot gigs and almost had a set go on me after 1 pretty short gig but putting it into perspective, I bought 8 sets in December 2016 and I am on set number 7 now. That is using the same bass for rehearsals and wedding/function gigs.
  24. Thanks for this, I've ordered one and am going to give it a try before I change it
