I didn't like the 1001RB as I felt I had to really crank it to the get the GK sound. The 700RB was perfect for everything I did with PA or not.

I paid £90 to see Jerry Lee Lewis but that was Jerry Lee Lewis, Albert Lee, James Burton and a whole evening of music with minimal breaks in between and I was 4 rows from the front

I buy whatever sounds good to me and what I need - active or passive, 4, 5, 6, 8 or 12 strings, fretted or fretless At the moment it's the Musicman Sterling I've had for just coming up to a year at the end of this month. I rarely touch the EQ on the bass now and usually use the controls on the amp to suit the room. When I bought it the first thing I did was fit a new Duracell battery. It still has the same battery in it 11 and a half months later so it's hardly an inconvenience having to change it. I also carry a spare and a battery tester.

I briefly owned the GK combo but felt that it wasn't going to be anywhere near as powerful for what I needed. More recently I bought the One10 and have been gas free since - except for selling the MB200 in this picture and going for the MB500. The tophat option is great if you want to use it as a monitor at ear level. Fits in a cajon bag and weighs about 10kgs in total. My first bass was a Marlin Slammer and the chrome on the bridge peeled off it. Never ever have I ever heard or experienced this on any musical instrument other than that one. My first proper amp was a Peavey TNT160 which lasted to the end of my first pub gig in1992/3 before being replaced the following weekend with a Trace 7210 Combo. The Peavey just couldn't keep up with the rest of the band and that was a small pub and it was on beer crates. Both combos weighed the same as a small bungalow

One of my favourite seups was a GK700RB into 2 Mag 410s. They went stupidly loud which I needed when depping with one particular rock band. Plus it sounded incredible but for most gigs it was complete overkill.

[/quote] I'm with the OP on this. If it's only the amp that will be going into the rack then I can't see having cables connected being much quicker than not. In the past when I had a rack tuner and compressor I had a power strip zip tied to a rack blanking panel in the back with everything connected which did save time then but not for just an amp.

Not so much hardest to learn but hardest to play for me is Footloose. It's not that difficult but I have to play it without thinking about it, otherwise it goes all over the place. Same goes for the main riff in Voulez Vous by Abba

Not a sleeve but the Gator GR-2S is exactly the correct size for these amps. I'll take a guess at items damaged in shipping to their warehouse as opposed to damaged by them. They usually have a rake of stuff on ebay - broken acoustic basses etc

If the £ / $ exchange rate ever got back anywhere near where it was a few years back it would certainly make an interesting project. Warmoth Jazz body routed for a MM pickup, Lane Poor Legacy MM Pickup, 3 band EQ and a Status Graphite neck

As soon as I hear slap I go onto the next video if I'm trying to get an idea of the sound. I wonder what percentage of bass players actually slap live at gigs or on recordings - 5%? less? So to most bass players it's irrelevant. Same goes when I was trying to get an idea of the sound of a Hofner violin bass. Every Youtube video had the reviewer playing with a plectrum as that's what McCartney used. I play with my fingers so, again, the videos were useless to me. As for fretless, don't get me started. I don't want to sound or play like Jaco, I just want to hear what the bass sounds like. Yes you can slide about the place and use vibrato as that's what a fretless allows you to do but I'm not interested in most of the other stuff I'll never use.

I agree with nickel being smoother on the fingers. I use D'addario EXLs and they are the smoothest rounds I have ever used which is handy as I have just changed back after using flats for the past 5 or 6 years

Brush script is as close as you can get to the Fender logo and the H at the beginning looks a bit like the F in the Fender logo

I would either keep the tonepump pots assuming that they are 25k ones or thereabouts the same as the EMGs and solder the pickups to those or forget about it and go with the EMG BQC or BQS system as it is a doddle to connect together

I've had many amps over the years but always went back to GK as they have a great inherent sound - I never fully understood what "transparent" meant but I can take a guess that the GK sound isn't. I briefly had an MB200 but I felt that I was going to have to push it too hard so went with the MB500 and absolutely love it. It has the same boost facility as the RB heads and I have the boost most of the way up. You're also getting a master volume, well 2 using both channels, a contour control that is a knob rather than an on/off switch I never use it) and a mute button which comes in handy for switching your amp on when it's plugged into the PA so you don't get a pop when it goes on. There's also extra stuff on the back as well that I don't use apart from the DI

I had Chromes on my Sterling but felt that it was missing something so went back to nickel wounds. The Precision I had a couple of years ago with active PJ EMGs sounded incredible with the same strings. They've also been really good on every bass I've used them on over the years such as an Epiphone Thunderbird with EMG HZ pickups and a Yamaha BB1025. I dont think you'll know if you like them until you try them. I don't find Youtube videos incredibly helpful as you are limited to the speakers you are listening to the video through, the bass they are using, the recording equipment they used and so on.

Possibly trying to build up positive feedback quickly by selling items cheaper than normal? There have been fake Elixirs on Ebay in the past though but I couldn't comment on these
