  1. I think it's the player series that has the usual Mustang pickup but also a humungous Jazz pickup (relative to the other pickup) as well. A Musicmaster / Bronco sized pickup would have worked much better than the Jazz to keep things in proportion I'v seen the CV Mustang for £320 which isn't a lot of money either. I think that the HB, given the pickups used, would be a better bass for modding but the Squier would be better if you wanted to keep it as is as it looks more like the real thing
  2. It's going to be a close call between my Musicman Sterling, which reignited my love for the funky Musicman tones, and rediscovering Slinky strings after years of using D'addarios. They sound so much fuller than the EXLs that I was using. I've tried a few different gauges this year but the Hybrid set is the winner as it allows the E to stay full and taught enough when I drop it down to D
  3. I think I've said this at some point in the past - I love the sound of Stingrays but the only way that I can get the Stingray sound live is with a Sterling. I just can't get as much growl and punch with a regular Stingray unless it's a ceramic pickup SR5. I bought this a few weeks ago - Sterling HH with matching headstock
  4. We're about to start playing Christmas Parties from this Friday so yes I'll be expected to play Christmas songs at Christmas parties. The ones that work are Mariah obviously, Slade, Shakey and Winter Wonderland as a sing a long one for all of the drunk people. the problem I always had with Fairytale and why it went down like a lead balloon is because out of the 4 or 5 minutes of the song, only just over a minute covers the happy, upbeat part. The rest of it is the depressing slow bit so it was binned after a couple of gigs. Step Into Christmas was one that should have worked as it's a great song but it didn't so we stick with what works
  5. Have you tried the UK distributor? They sometimes have these things lying around in drawers and boxes
  6. I've been saying this in pretty much every thread asking if a particular bass is right for a particular band, genre, event etc for about the last hundred years but if you like the bass, it plays well and it sounds good it doesn't matter how many strings it has I've played rock gigs with a 12 string, wedding gigs with a Modulus Flea bass and the only reason for using them was because I liked the basses at the time
  7. i gave it a try and my first thought was that they were going to start playing this:
  8. I usually do something similar for my 4 string but 45, 60, 80, 110. The 110 is so that it is high enough tension to drop it to D and according to D'addario's tension guide this is as close tension that you can get using the gauges that are available separately rather than the specific balanced tension ones
  9. I played a 7 hour wedding one hogmanay from 7pm to 2am with a flu so bad that I was delirious. I felt like I was in a dream all night. I have no idea how I made it to the end of the gig or what songs we played and spent most of the night leaning against the side of the stage so I wouldn't fall over Another time I was in a car accident. Had to be driven to the gig and had to play it seated, complete with neck brace, in case I keeled over. I've probably only missed 3 or 4 gigs in 30 years of playing and they've been due to holidays
  10. Unless you are looking for a specific sound, look or 5, 6, 7, 8, 10 or 12 strings etc, no one really needs any particular brand. What you need is something that sounds the way you want to sound, plays well, feels good and possibly looks good as well. I've never really bonded with any Fenders that I've owned over the years. My current basses are a Warmoth Dinky body with Status Graphite neck and EMGs so Fender in type but no where near any Fender I've played before. The other is a Musicman Sterling HH which has a loose connection with Leo Fender
  11. Was that the one from GuitarGuitar? I bought a Sterling from a chap on Facebook last weekend who bought it from GuitarGuitar and it came in a Stingray case, not a Sterling one. If it is then I'll contact them and see if they'll do a swap as the one they have must be for my bass
  12. Ooft that's manky. If I owned it I'd be playing it in nothing less than a hazmat suit
  13. One of the best concerts I have ever been to was about 5 or 6 years ago. it was when Jerry Lee Lewis was touring as part of his 80th birthday celebrations. I wasn't expecting the young Jerry Lee that I'd seen on many black and white videos standing on top of the piano and so on but I was surprised at how good he was - and yes, he did kick the piano stool away at the end. Jerry Lovelace was still playing the guitar with him. Plus I got to see another two of my guitar heroes - Albert Lee and James Burton There are bands and acts that I have had the chance to see but have decided not to as I want to remember them for how they were, not what they are now - Deep Purple & Whitesnake to name a couple. I saw a little bit of the last Genesis shows and it was actually depressing to see Phil collins like that. he hasn't been able to sing with the force and roughness that he was known for for some time and the drum battles with Chester Thomson are a distant memory but it was sad to see The Chili peppers are a funny one - they tend to be either right on the money or terrible, depending on when you see them
  14. I always cut along the length of an A4 sheet of paper, the width of the peg hole. Put a small piece of tape on one end to secure it to the tuner then wrap it around. Once I have enough added to it I cut the paper then put a small piece of tape around it to hold it together then in it goes Prior to buying my Status neck with holes that were actually the correct size for my tuners this is what I always did
  15. I tried but they've completely lost what drew me to them in the first place. They're never going to be their younger, crazier selves again but there's no edge any more - I can't actually think of anything nice to say about it. It might be different for someone who has never heard any of their early stuff and likes today's bland pop music but they're probably going to hate Skinny Sweaty Man or Get Up & Jump Since One Hot Minute, the number of songs per album that I like has got less and less. it seemed to coincide with Anthony wanting to sing more rather than his usual rapping/shouting style. OHM was released in 1995 which is scarily 27 years ago 😲
  16. It's something "INTERNATIONAL" but i can't figure it out. it doesn't look like Peavey. Of the three letters you can see the first one looks like a "K" or "V" then maybe I then J.
  17. For the past 16 years I've used the scissors in my Leatherman Wave. Before that I think it was the little scissors that you get in sewing kits
  18. When I get hacks on the ends of my fingers I use Snowfire. It's an old fashioned emolument that absolutely stinks but after a day or so the skin has completely healed
  19. They didn't do a 25th anniversary model in 2018 but they have the opportunity for a 30th next year. I'm not holding my breath
  20. They still make them as far as I know but most people buy Stingrays rather than Sterlings so there are never many around for sale. They do come up from time to time on the forum and on rare occasions you might even see a 5 string
  21. Decided to downsize my pedal board yet again so am managing to get away without using this, although it does sound a lot richer and fuller with it. Cab sim, reverb, EQ, valve power amp sim, noise gate and so on. For me it added what was missing when I went with IEMs, i.e. the effect of having an actual cab and amp. The last one sold on here last week for £170 so we'll go with that. Comes in it's original box with power supply and USB cable. One thing that I'm not sure about is that I bought an Ashdown ABM115 Compact sim so I assume that it transfers with the unit. I'm sure that someone more knowledgable than me can confirm this. I had always assumed that it would have been the 4x10" that would have been the one for me but after demoing a lot of cabs the compact 15" with two mics was perfect for me. I've added velcro to the bottom of this so it's ready to go right onto your board Postage can be £5.55 with Royal Mail Signed for but only covers you for £50 or Special Delivery is £8.95 and covers a value up to £500, so the full value of this.
  22. Using the on and off the scales method It's coming in at 9.8lbs or 4.445kgs which was about the same as my Musicman Sterling
  23. For sale now is my fantastic Squier Classic Vibe 50s Precision bass which hasn't even left the house since I bought it in January. In fact it hasn't been out of it's gig bag since February I've had a few single coil precisions from Japanese Fender reissues to a couple I had made by Warmoth and this is right up there with those. It feels really good quality which isn't as surprising as it used to be but personally this is good enough to have a Fender logo on it Although this bass didn't originally come with one, I am going to include a Fender gig bag (there's a small tear in the fabric but it doesn't go all the way through to the bass itself - plus it's a freebie!) and genuine "Fendet" strap which matches the bass perfectly (Another freebie!). I have also just set the bass up with a brand new set of D'addario EXL165 strings. I have the original box and packaging so can courier this bass to your address. Postage will be £22 for Parcelforce Express 24 or £34 for UPS for non-remote parts of mainland UK. I am more than happy to meet up somewhere within a reasonable distance and you're also welcome to collect it from me
