1. I had intended to use this with my Barefaced One 10 and whatever amp I eventually decide to go for but I think I'd like to keep my setup as simple as possible so have decided to let someone else have the use of it instead. The label on the top is slightly peeling but it's still tip top and has velcro on the bottom ready to attach to your pedalboard. I am looking for £80 posted or best offer
2. I have a bit of OCD regarding amps and generally only buy new. Most issues with basses can be fixed in a few minutes but an amp has to be sent away or taken to a repair guy. I know new amps can go on the blink too but I like to think that there is less chance of it happening than with a secondhand one, although this isn't always the case. I've decided that it's really Gallien Krueger that I want so have put a wanted ad on here for an MB200, MB500 or MB 500 Fusion and take it from there. I have a rare couple of weeks between gigs to get something sorted out. Thanks to everyone for all of the help
3. Cool Maybe it's time to think about others not on my list. The only thing is that unless it's Ampeg or Ashdown then it's difficult to try any of those other brands out first. I am now going to look at: Eich T 300 Taurus BL450 Gallien Krueger MB Fusion Bugera Veyron 1001T And then part of me says "just get a Gallien Krueger 700RB II". It is a lot bigger and heavier than the others, I can't sit it on top of my new cab and I'd have to keep using my stand for it but I know this amp, I know how good it is and I know that I'm not going to get exactly the same sound from any of the MB series
4.
Be aware there are some people reading Basschat who like nothing better than to drop those named players a heads up.
Sorry I read that as people reading Basschat who'd like nothing more than to drop those named players on their heads
5. I got these recently but have succumbed to the lure of going back to the familiar Chromes so these are up for grabs. Factory fresh in their original packaging I am looking for £18 posted
6. In my continued rationalisation of everything I own, I have the following pedals for sale that I am never going to use. [s]First up is a Chord FL-50 flanger. Comes in it's original box and in good condition with no velcro or anything on it. I'm looking for £20 posted [/s] SOLD Next up is a GLX Bass Overdrive and said to be a clone of the Boss one. Again, good condition. In fact I don't actually recall ever using it but I don't have the box for some reason £20 posted for this one as well Next is a Line 6 Space Chorus that I took in a trade recently but ended up not using. It's a fairly chunky beast of a thing and comes with a Line6 power supply. Looking for £40 for this one Lastly, taken in the same trade, is a One Spot combo pack containing the power supply with extra long lead and all of the adaptors to connect to different brands of pedals. Looks to be pretty much brand new. [s]Looking for £20 posted for this one as well[/s] - SOLD
7. Thanks for the info everyone. I think now I'm down to the MB200 and for only £60 more I could have the Peavey Minimax but it's quite a bit bigger and 3+ times the weight
8. I meant to say that I had one of the first series of the MB combos and loved the sound but felt that it was the cab that let it down. That was the 2x10" combo plus 15" cab
9. I am about to take delivery of my first Barefaced cab - the One 10. For years I've raised my cabs off the floor using various cab stands so when the question was asked if I'd like a top hat fitted to it, naturally I said yes. I have a simple set up - wireless into the amp and then into the cab. DI out from the amp to the PA. I plan on having the cab at ear level on a standard PA speaker stand as I like to be able to keep the stage volume as low as possible and I'm guessing that for most gigs it will be about 2-3 feet away from me, maybe 4 feet at the most. I also have a microthumpinator if needed. I'm not going to be in a position where I'm playing humungous stages, this is more or less it for every gig we play. With my current Rumble combo, I have always struggled to get the volume low enough to still sound good. I've never been one for tons of deep, low end either. My current conundrum is what amp to buy. I do like the idea of the Peavey Minimax which will theoretically pump out a maximum of 350w into this cab but I'm a Gallien Krueger fan having had 800RB, 700RB & 1001RB amps over the years. I was wondering if the MB200 would do the trick? 140w into the 8ohm cabinet and so light that it could be permanently velcroed to the cab and kept in the cajon bag I bought to store and transport the cab. I play right next to the guitarist who is pretty quiet on stage and I have a great drummer who doesn't have to hammer the bejesus out of her kit. My main source of volume on stage is from one of the PA speakers which is normally about 5-6 feet in front of me. I know that there isn't a great deal of difference between a 500w amp and a 700w one other than headroom but will 140w be enough given what I am going to be using it for? Granted it's not your average cab. I've narrowed it down to the Peavey Minimax, GK MB200 or GK MB500 (if required) with a 4th option of the new Hartke TX600 which will be coming in at around the same price as the MB500
10. My £250 Yamaha BB425 had a great B string. I completely agree that it's not all about how much money you spend. A badly designed bass is a badly designed bass regardless of its price tag. I've had some great 5 string basses and never spent anywhere near £2000 Granted there should be less basses with bad B strings at that price having spent so much money
11. Late Thursday bump Available to post from Monday 15th August and available to collect or meet up from 11.30pm on Saturday night
12. That's an absolutely stunning bass. One of the few basses I've never owned is a Precision fretless
13. I bought my Sterling without trying one as I couldn't find anywhere that had one. Luckily it's a fantastic instrument and really suits my playing style. Alternatively I could never ever get on with Stingrays. I didn't like the feel of them and could never get the Stingray growl. Turns out I can from my Sterling.
14. I haven't heard if my Barefaced cab will be ready in time for a gig this Saturday so for anyone interested in it I'd like to be able to use it one last time before I box it up. If you really, really want it sooner then I will still box it up for you and send sooner if possible. Alternatively, I am playing in Glasgow on Saturday night and you can take it from me at 11.30pm when we finish
15. My experience of the Resolites was when I was putting together a Warmoth bass. I must have drilled the holes slightly too small and instead of getting resistance telling me this, one of the screws snapped
16. When I played a 5 string I always used D'addario 165-5 strings which come with a 135 B string and this is only marginally lower tension than the E
17. I've just had the email to say my new cab should be with me in the next week so I am pre-empting it by putting my amazing Rumble 500 combo up for sale. I've had it 18 months and it has lived in its Roqsolid cover since then. Condition wise, it is immaculate all round. There are some marks to the tolex underneath and I'm guessing that it's when I've set the combo down on a gravel car park but other than that it is tip top. These are incredibly loud combos and if you've never played through one, this picture shows the levels I have it set to for gigs (I don't use the overdrive or any of the shape buttons) It's rated at 350w on its own or 500w with an extension cab but I've never need to use one. Plus it comes in at a very back friendly 16.5kgs. I still have the original box so posting isn't an issue and I am looking for £400 + £15 postage. Any questions, please fire away
18. Plenty of heft. I'll be surprised if it lasts the weekend before being sold
19. Fantastic combos these. light, loud and solid build quality
20. I had bought this off the forum to go with my Barefaced One 10 but the long wait has had me looking at other options so I've decided to go with something else instead. I haven't used it since I bought it but it's in very good condition and comes with a brand new power cable. I'm looking for £170 posted or best offer
21. I found those strings on a single coil Precision tuned down a semi tone were amazing but yes I can't imagine playing these strings at full tension either
22. I've had both and didn't think the GK was up to the job. It somehow felt fragile, that if I took it to a certain level it would break. those were just my thoughts at the time so I decided to sell it after a couple of months. It was a series 1 combo I had with matching 15" cab The Rumble on the other hand feels solid and powerful but a level of power that I don't ever need to push it. Soundwise, the GK didn't do the GK growl for me having owned 800RB & 700RB II amps. From what I've heard the MB Fusion gets a lot closer. It sounded plain and kind of meh to me. Might have been the amp, might have been the cab or might have been both. The Fender sounds a better amp regardless of what bass I've used with it. Having said that I will be selling my Rumble combo in a week or so when my Barefaced cab arrives as I want to go even lighter and don't need so much power. I'll put up a for sale ad when I do.
23. These basses are fantastic. I've ended up selling all of my other basses now and kept my Sterling. So light compared to my previous SR5 & Yamaha BB1025. Makes long wedding.function gigs a breeze now
