1. Nice and simple
2. Incredibly good basses and yes they don't hold their values as well as MM ones
3. I need to take some pics but I'm sure that having them takes half a pound off the weight of the bass. The headstock now sits higher with them and it's not tempted to slide downwards as it was previously. I was at times finding the bass a tad heavy but after fitting the new tuners I hardly noticed it at all at tonight's gig Looking at the Hipshot website, it will be the HE6C 1/2" d-tuner that will match these. I managed to get a set of Licenced tuners from the US for £65 all in, definitely worth the price
4. I'm sure those had mahogany bodies and EMG HZ pickups. Nearly bought one a while back
5.
I can recommend Lemmy's autobiography very much. That guy has lived the Rock and roll lifestyle to the hilt and I wish him the best of health but to be honest, if you burn the candle at both ends, something's gotta give. Maybe it's time for him to take it easier. Maybe one off shows instead of tours. Just a thought cos I'm sure lots of people would be disappointed !
I can also recommend his biography- - I sat down to read it and ended up reading the whole book in one day. Just couln't put it down. I've seen Motorhead 3 times in recent years and was disappointed when the tour was cancelled twice a couple of years back due to Lemmy's ill health. I have tickets for next year's gig and hope he is going to be well enough to do them. They are very loud but I love the music. It's getting to the stage when a lot of these great performers are going to be touring for the last time - I'm also going to see Jerry Lee Lewis next week as I was too young to appreciate him when I was young and this is the last chance I'll get to see him. I was also fortunate to see the Frantic 4 lineup of Status Quo twice and they were fantastic, Even though Alan Lancaster is looking rather frail these days he still put on a great performance. I'm also really looking forward to seeing Saxon as I kept missing them when they were in Scotland so I'm hoping everyone will be fighting fit come January.
6. And the answer is 1/2" Fitted them tonight and as an added bonus they fit using one of the existing screwholes on the back of the headstock so no drilling required. I bought the Licensed ones from a seller on Ebay in the USA.
7. That body looks familiar - SD Stack you say?
8.
I quite enjoy playing it as I play a game with the drummer to see how many variations we can make on a bass run/drum fill at the end of the turnarounds.
That's something we've done for years on any song that we've either been playing seemingly forever or that we don't like but the crowd do. Certainly livens things up - especially the slap bass bits on 500 Miles or the Popeye theme during I'm a Believer The latest one is playing Spirit Of The Radio during Don't Stop Believing. It's sooo close at times
9. I have the Z-Direct one and it's how I DI into the desk for all gigs. Means that I have a consistent sound from venue to venue, I can adjust anything on my amp to suit the room for monitoring without affecting the sound out front and there are plenty of EQ options on the desk. Also removes another level of EQing from the mix.
10. I don't use any effects on this one. The way I play it is to play the low C then when I play the D I slide it back down to the C. The next part is a quick D then slide from the F up to the G and back down to the F. No effects and it works perfectly. The singers sing the do do bits. No slap, all fingers, even the bit that is slap
11. No one has mentioned Amy Winehouse's version of Valerie. Stupid, stupid song. It's about a guy who misses his ginger girlfriend and as far as I am aware Amy wasn't that way inclined so it's just plain silly. Plus I hate that pseudo 60s sound and was never a fan of her voice. I'd rather stick needles in my eyes The other two would be Sex On Fire and Dakota as they've been on every wedding and function band's set list and they weren't that good to begin with. Especially the wailing on the KOL tune
12. I totally agree. I know it's something that is said a lot on this and other forums but this is the best sound I think I've ever had. I feel like I have more control over this bass than any I have had before. Plus it felt like a bass I'd been playing for years as soon as I began using it. If I have time tonight I'm going to change the tuners tonight but leave the D'addarios on it as for some reason they seem to be lasting a lot longer than the last set I had. Last set I managed 7 gigs before they were completely dead but I'm up to 11 so far and they show no sign of getting dull.
13. I would expect the neck to have a finish on it but I think it's satin. the finish on the headstock on mine is a kind of aged gloss and only on the front face of the headstock. They aren't the lightest of basses but I've just bought a set of Hipshot Ultralites which will take half a pound of weight off the bass and should make it point slightly upwards trather than the current perfectly horizontal position.
14. I had heard a while ago that Yamaha were going to discontinue the 1000 series, possibly due to the closeness in specs to the 2000 series. A few weeks ago GAK were showing the 1024 & 1025 as discontinued and now they're no longer listed on their website. They do still seem to be available at a few other places but I don't know if this a while stocks last thing or not.
15. At the end of last year I bought a 425 as GAK were doing them for £249 and I fancied another 5 string after playing 4 strings for the last few years. As far as fit and finish go the neck feels and looks like it is untreated but I would expect that there's something on it. The frets are well finished with no rough edges. The only thing that I can see that is wrong with it is one of those natural black bits on the neck just behind the first fret that my eye keeps getting drawn to when I'm playing it. Sound wise it is very powerful for a passive bass. Controls are simple and I usually have everything on full. Playing in a wedding band I need to be able to play a variety of genres and it covers them all brilliantly with the occasional song requring me to solo the P pickup to get the desired effect. A fantastic bass that I'd be happy to gig on any size of stage. The 1025 is in my opinion in a different league completely. The finish is perfect, the neck has a slight vintage tint to it and is gloss laquer rather than satin. The string tree is substantial and covers the E, A & D strings. The nut is made from the same material as the frets. I prefer the P pickup on this one to the 425 as I can get more growl from it. There are no flaws anywhere on it. despite being the same Jazz pickup apparently I can solo it without changing any EQ settings on the amp and it still gives me a useful tone on it's own. Soloing the P pickup yields the P bass tone that I've never had from any Fender or similar. I still prefer both pickups on and everything up full for a very full, round yet clear, punchy tone. I don't know how much if anything the splined joint affects the tone due to the different P pickup etc So to me the BB1025 was definitely worth the price. The BB425 is now my backup and rehearsal bass
16. The strings arived today but I'm going to wait until my Hipshot Ultralites arrive before I change them. I'd be happy with 6 months out of them rather than the 4-6 weeks I'm getting currently
17. I'm finding my bass just a tad on the heavy side for 90+ minute sets so I've just ordered a set of Hipshot Ultralites. I already use a wide neoprene strap but I do find that moving about helps disperse the weight.
18. There's a load of possibilities but I'd be going for a BB425 from GAK at £249 - oh wait, I did It was my main gigging bass until I bought my BB1025
19. Thanks for the info. In the end I've decided to go for the Elixir 14782 Stainless strings as they're closer tension wise and after watching and reading reviews they sound exactly what I'm looking for. Not to mention this if it turns out to be the case for me: https://youtu.be/XCv5AnJIxjc
20.
Why would you do that !!! John

21.
Exactly - on previous 2 post above... only to add, that being familiar with warwick products and paraphernalia, that is not (in my experience) a Warwick 'Rockbag'.
That's what they called the Crosswalker or something like that. I had two of them in the past and the rucksack detaches. Assuming of course that it's a real one I'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt and think he's put Warwick as the brand as the bass doesn't have an obvious brand name and it does ask you for a brand name when posting the ad. The bag is Warwick so I think that's why he's done it. He does clearly state in the ad that he doesn't know the brand name of the bass so I don't see how he's trying to con anyone. If anyone does buy it thinking it's a Warwick then it will be because they haven't bothered to read the description
22. Black tuning nuts eh?
23. Band rehearsals only happen if we have songs to learn for upcoming weddings and we might go through the tunes for the next 3 or 4 weddings in one 2-3 hour rehearsal. I only ever bring my bass out to go over these songs a couple of times at home so maybe 30 minutes every 3-4 weeks at the most. I think other forum members who have played in wedding bands for a long time might agree with me that being in these bands for a long period of time means that you tend to pick things up quicker if you're in the kind of band that will play requests that you don't really know regularly. Wouldn't be the first time that I've played a song at a wedding that I'd never heard of the artist, never mind the song itself.
24. Not long back from 2 gigs in Aberdeen this weekend. I took the wireless still in it's box and not having had the chance to try it out at home. Got to the first gig, plugged it in, attached the tape to the transmitter and that was really it. Really simple to use and having no cable mean that I can hear the bass clearer now. In fact my drummer said it was the best that the bass had sounded. I have only one monor concern in that when removing the transmitter from the body, which I had attached using the tape, it's so strong that I'm worried that I'm going to break the tabs that hold the battery door onto the unit when I pull it off. I had to try to hold the battery door as I removed the transmitter from the bass. Any tips on how to remove it without risking damaging the battery compartment tabs? Other than that I played two full wedding gigs and the battery level is still showing 3 bars left so I'm very impressed. The Line6 G30 that I used to have would've been close to or on it's next set of batteries already.
25. I have Chromes ECB81-5 on my BB425 which is my backup bass and I can't really tell the difference in tension between those and the EXL165-5s on my BB1025
