1. Thanks for the info. In the end I've decided to go for the Elixir 14782 Stainless strings as they're closer tension wise and after watching and reading reviews they sound exactly what I'm looking for. Not to mention this if it turns out to be the case for me: https://youtu.be/XCv5AnJIxjc
2.
Why would you do that !!! John

3.
Exactly - on previous 2 post above... only to add, that being familiar with warwick products and paraphernalia, that is not (in my experience) a Warwick 'Rockbag'.
That's what they called the Crosswalker or something like that. I had two of them in the past and the rucksack detaches. Assuming of course that it's a real one I'd give the guy the benefit of the doubt and think he's put Warwick as the brand as the bass doesn't have an obvious brand name and it does ask you for a brand name when posting the ad. The bag is Warwick so I think that's why he's done it. He does clearly state in the ad that he doesn't know the brand name of the bass so I don't see how he's trying to con anyone. If anyone does buy it thinking it's a Warwick then it will be because they haven't bothered to read the description
4. Band rehearsals only happen if we have songs to learn for upcoming weddings and we might go through the tunes for the next 3 or 4 weddings in one 2-3 hour rehearsal. I only ever bring my bass out to go over these songs a couple of times at home so maybe 30 minutes every 3-4 weeks at the most. I think other forum members who have played in wedding bands for a long time might agree with me that being in these bands for a long period of time means that you tend to pick things up quicker if you're in the kind of band that will play requests that you don't really know regularly. Wouldn't be the first time that I've played a song at a wedding that I'd never heard of the artist, never mind the song itself.
5. Not long back from 2 gigs in Aberdeen this weekend. I took the wireless still in it's box and not having had the chance to try it out at home. Got to the first gig, plugged it in, attached the tape to the transmitter and that was really it. Really simple to use and having no cable mean that I can hear the bass clearer now. In fact my drummer said it was the best that the bass had sounded. I have only one monor concern in that when removing the transmitter from the body, which I had attached using the tape, it's so strong that I'm worried that I'm going to break the tabs that hold the battery door onto the unit when I pull it off. I had to try to hold the battery door as I removed the transmitter from the bass. Any tips on how to remove it without risking damaging the battery compartment tabs? Other than that I played two full wedding gigs and the battery level is still showing 3 bars left so I'm very impressed. The Line6 G30 that I used to have would've been close to or on it's next set of batteries already.
6. I have Chromes ECB81-5 on my BB425 which is my backup bass and I can't really tell the difference in tension between those and the EXL165-5s on my BB1025
7. Thanks Chris - that's me just ordered one now. Looking forward to using it this weekend
8. This year I've gone from using Chromes on my bass which last forever to going back to nickel rounds on my BB1025. It's a bizarre sensation after using flats for so many years that strings actually go dead after a while. I think I'm managing about 7 gigs on a set before they're done. I am currently using D'addario 165-5 EXLs but would like to try something that is going to last a lot longer as I like to set up my bass and then just play it. Although the EXLs are seen as relatively smooth for a roundwound I will still like something that allows my fingers to slide off the strings more like the Chromes allowed me to do. I've tried reading as much as I can over on Talkbs but it's hard to separate the fact from the speculation. If I was to go for the D'addarios it would be the 170-5 gauge as they don't do the 165-5 in the EXPs according to the website. If it was Elixirs then I actually quite fancy trying the stainless ones as I'm guessing that they're like stainless but won't wear the frets down having the coating on them. It would be the 45,65,85,105,135 gauge I'd go for as tention wise they're relatively close to my current strings, albeit with more tension on the B & E Are there advantages/disadvantages to either one of them, differences in sound between them, longevity, etc? There are some other threads on the forum but most are quite old and I'd like a comparison of what they're like after a while as opposed to out of the box. For info I play in a wedding/function band and play 99% fingerstyle. Music is everything from Etta James to whatever's in the charts
9.
Do I win?
TM Stevens called, he wants his bass back
10. Is the suction cup tape that sticks the transmitter to the bass designed so that the transmitter lives attached to the bass all of the time or can it come off at the end of the gig and go back on for the next one? Kind of looks like it goes on and off again as long as you keep it clean according to the manual. Just thinking that it might wear out the jack socket if it's in there all of the time.
11. I'll need to give it a listen but at the moment my favourite is Fragile by Yes. It's been my favourite album for the past 10 years at least I'm always looking out for new old stuff. I can't find anything new these days that excites me. Even the Chili Peppers newer stuff doesn't do anything for me and I have been a huge Chilis fan for the past 23 years
12. And with another suggestion..... I play in a wedding/function and and I don't have the time or inclination to mess around with settings or pedals so I need something that I can make sound different without adjust anything other than what I do with my fingers. I also don't have the time to change basses during songs either - I barely have time to tune up sometimes. Many basses will do this. It just so happens that I love the sound of my Yamaha BB1025 and how it responds to how I play it. I also have it set up so that if I dig in it will growl and clank away. Basses that have worked for me have been Bass Collection SB305, Musicman Stingray 5, Epiphone Goth Thunderbird, Fender Precision with EMGs and now the Yamaha. There have been loads of others.
13. I take two 1 litre bottles of water to every wedding gig and normally get myself a pint of water before each set and a cup of tea at the break. I also have a bottle of water in the car for driving through and a second one for the drive home I am also on a diet so as I burn fat I am also using up the fluids in my body and so need more than I normally would. I must drink around 20-25 litres of water a week at the moment
14. Myself and the guitarist have on occasion got the intros to Day Tripper and Pretty Woman mixed up with each other
15. I can draw a similar comparison to music today as movies today. There have been some great movies made but it seems that the further into the future we get the more one film is like another and the more that we get remakes. For me, this is the same as music. It's more or less all been done before so it's hard to come up with something new. Occasionally someone will break through but it's becoming harder as if you're really into music you've heard it all before. I disagree that if you weren't there then you missed it as I have fond memories of listening to a great number of bands for the first time and playing the songs over and over again. Just being overwhelmed by the tracks and how they did it.
16. I hope not for long as I'm pretty certain that I will be buying one in the next fortnight. One thing though - if the receiver is designed to sit on a pedal board, why is the display on the front and not the top?
17. I'm in a wedding/function band so it's mainly 8-12 gigs for me but a few years back it wasn't unheard of to do 7-1. The killer is when we're far away like Inverness and Aberdeen so there's a 3 hour drive home. A 12 finish normal translates to getting home around 4am. Had one of those last week and I'll have another in 3 weeks time Generally means that the next day is a right-off
18. Absolutely loving this setup
19. I like to keep it simple - Fender Rumble 500 combo with Yamaha BB1025 and BB425 as backup
20.
Yes without Squire would be like chips without, er... Fish.
Is that not Marillion you're thinking about? Or possibly Erik Estrada I personally would not go to see Chic as there's no Bernard but they're clearly still popular and still going so good on them. They're bass player is fantastic but he's not Bernard - suppose that's the same argument regarding Bon and Brian in AC/DC. When I think of Yes I think about the fact that each member has a very unique and distinctive sound and way of playing. When one member goes do you try to mimic the missing member or try something different again that will make you unique? I personally think Dave Meros from Spocks Beard could pull it off but then you need to think about the missing harmonies as well. They've been doing it long enough, I'm sure if there's a way to do it they will. Hell we might even get a Yes/Asia/Buggles/etc combined gig
21. 28 years later and I really couldn't tell you what any of the scales are.
22.
Don't forget the "honking" gibsons.
Yes they are aren't they I believe that it's somewhere between bite and kertang but definitely not grunk
23. I can't Remember a Day when we had so many of these but I'm Biding My Time before I come out with any more, If I come out with any more
