I've used their cabs (4x10 and 1x15) with my usual rig (Peavey Classic 400, couple of overdrives, stainless steel strings). They sounded full and plenty loud, but compared to my Markbass they were way too harsh and brittle at the top end for my liking. I normally have the tweeter full on and even after switching it off it was really harsh! Very good cabs and very efficient though, and they look good on a stage! If you like that kind of sound you should be plenty happy though
Maybe the amp not suiting the cabs? I never thought that the cabs were harsh in the top end. I had used the 4x10" with an Ampeg PF500 and it sounded terrible. Couldn't get enough of anything to make it sound decent but with the Hartke LH1000 and GK 1001RB II they were fantastic

I've had a 4x10 and 1x15 (I have the 15" for sale now) I used mine with a Hartke head and they were amazing. Really punchy, lots of trouser flapping bass but at the same time really clear. I just don't need that much gear any more of I'd still have it. I think several members have used the fet and valve heads but I can't remember who The trouble is that it's not the flavour of the month stuff and never has been but it is really well put together solid gear made from top notch components (Celestion Neos in the cabs and marine grade plywood construction)

According to the site 3 3/4" inches from the bridge

I really do think that some people don't listen to the lyrics when choosing songs for their wedding. A couple we've had as first dances have been: Always, Bon Jovi - a song about a guy who had a fling with another woman and is singing about the girl he used to be with but will never be with again Without You, Nillson - the first line is the girl leaving him forever The first song for tonight's wedding is Rule The World by Take That but what's the second song? Mr Brightside

I decided to go for it in the end. I will get it on Monday. Without asking for anything I've been sent a Leathergraft strap, 3m cable and a set of D'addario EXLs. I'll be sure that if I decide at a later date to go for the BB2025 to speak to the same guy who's been sorting me out with this one.

I've also put this on Egay and Bumtree -
It is indeed a 425 - do you have one? Would still be rediculously good at twice the price. Anyway that's for another thread

Live Aid - Queen - The reason I play the bass Appetite for Destruction - GnR - learned to play properly playing along to this album White Room - Cream - I learned what was possible regarding improvising BSSM - The Chilis - changed my outlook on bass forever Fragile -Yes - just an amazing album. I still listen to it in its entirety at least once a month. I remember hearing Roundabout on Virgin Radio when I was 15, totally blew my mind

Well the tobacco burst one went back yesterday and I was supposed to get the caramel one today but the couriers decided that they'd rather deliver it back to the shop that I was buying it from - idiots The upshot is that I will be gigging this weekend with no back up as they can't get one to me until Friday and I'll probably be half way to Aberdeen by the time it arrives. I've spoken with the guy who's been looking after me and he's left it with me to decide what I want to do as originally I had said that if they couldn't get one to me by today then I'd have to cancel the order. I will say that I've had excellent service so far from Yamaha Music London where I bought it from and they've done everything possible to get things sorted out. But it's kind of taken the shine off getting it now so I really don't know what to do.

Here's mine I use one these stands at its highest setting so it's 80cm off the ground. I have a ratchet strap that goes around the stand and the amp to make sure that it doesn't go anywhere. It sounds really good, means that I'm not too loud on stage and I have plenty of bass and punch without having to boost anything. I am aware that this flies in the face of everything that we are told is correct but it gives me a sound that I really like so that's all that matters to me. YMMV etc
Well I'm looking to go either way, It wouldn't take much to change around the strings at home for experimenting with chordal stuff.
Is that the stuff you use as a drinks mixer when you're at the pub?

Is there a reason you don't want a passive bass? I was playing a Precision with EMGs and 2 band EQ until the beginning of the year but am now using a passive Yamaha. I don't miss having the active EQ.
-
Yamaha BB425? I use it to play a wide variety of songs in my band from 70s disco and funk to whatever's in the charts at the moment. That is until this weekend when I start using my BB1025 - still reasonably cheap as they come in around the £600 mark

if I sold my yamaha bbne1 5er.what could I replace it with?

I don't have any experience of them but would the controls not be the same as the NE1 pedal with volume and blend? -
Confidence is another incredibly important thing. there's nothing worse than having someone dep who comes across as being very nervous and not ready for the gig. The band want to play the gig and enjoy themselves. They don't want to have to think that you're not ready for it. Even if you are nervous give the impression that you're not. Everyone is nervous the first time they play with a new band. I liken playing with different bands to driving: when you get your first car you get used to what it can do and where the clutch biting point is etc. When you get your second car then you go through all of this again. The more you change cars, or even hire cars, vans etc you find the transition easier each time until you can get into a car and drive off straight away. I'm at the stage that I can get on stage with a group of strangers and be instantly comfortable but I've been playing for 28 years

Play as much as you can at home learning as much as you can. Go onto band's websites and look at their setlists, some songs will appear again and again so learn those. Personally it was joining a wedding band that wasn't afraid to jam a song if asked even if we'd never done it before. Ok it would never be perfect but it gives you more confidence and you go home and learn it properly. We've been together now for 20 years minus an 18 month hiatus where we all went off a did other things and we never rehearsed for 15 of those years. New songs and songs for first dances were all learned on our own and played at weddings together for the first time. Different bands will play songs differently. Even something like Brown Eyed Girl I've played 3 different arrangements of it. When I dep I have to remember what version the band I'm playing with that night does. I might have been lucky or just never been asked but I haven't had to sight read anything for 20 years.

USA Peavey Foundation Fretless
Delberthot replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It's the second time it's been listed as well. I'm about an hour away from the seller, if it had been a 5 string then I'd have bought it. -
Back when I was a lad and only recently began playing weddings we were at a venue we played a lot back then. There was this couple who kept kind of dancing up to me and then going back again. It was quite funny at first until they began getting too close and hitting the bass which obviously deadened the notes. Plus you know how careful i am with my basses. After so long the singer announced that if people kept on doing it then we would stop playing. Obviously this couple either didn't hear or thought that they were being funny. We began playing again and i clocked them coming towards me again so just at the last moment I moved my bass out of the way and punched the guy full force in the chest. The result was a huge cheer from everyone else and I never saw them again for the rest of the night.
I wouldn't describe the Rumble 500 combo as a practice amp Try one - you'll be surprised at the sonic weight it delivers Edit: It's also very competitively priced
At one point I had a Gallien 1001RB II running into a Trace 4x12" and 2x15" but it was just silly and far too much for every gig I ever did. I have been using a Fender Rumble 500 combo since the start of the year. I also have my Laney NX115 cab in case I need to use it for larger gigs. If you look at my sig the Laney cab is for sale - The Fender is plenty loud enough and I'm not even close to pushing it. BTW I stand right next to our guitarist on stage who plays through a Blackstar head into a 2x12" I don't think that this amp is the be all and end all but it works perfectly with my Yamaha BB425 (and soon to be BB1025) playing the kind of disco, dance etc music that I play with the wedding band. With a P with Chromes it sounded rather flat.

I know that it would just be a matter of lightly running some steel wool up and down the neck a couple of times but I would only do that on a secondhand bass not a brand new one. I bought the tobacco burst one but they don't have any more in the UK. They do have a caramel brown one that I actually really like so I've asked if they can swap it for that but I would need to have it by Wednesday 29th in order for me to do a string change and setup in time for next weekend's gigs. I'll see what happens

Bugger - got it yesterday and had a good look over it. Body is flawless, love the metal nut and prefer the bridge on this compared to the 425 but There's something badly wrong with the neck, it's rough as a badger's. Like it hasn't been finished properly. I though it was polish or something but a light wipe hasn't taken it off. The place I bought it from has found one at a distributors in France that they can get me but I'm in two minds now whether to get it swapped or return it and stick with the 425 and get a set of Hipshot Ultralites. I'm not going to do anything rash I'll think it through logically and make a decision on Sunday.

I love it - I would need to go the whole hog and have the matching ZZ top inspired furry bass and a pair of Chewbacca boots. Then probably a big afro wig and star shaped sunglasses. Actually this could get out of hand

My personal favourites would be either Daphne Blue or Dakota Red

Are you a vol/vol or a vol/pan kinda player?
Delberthot replied to Damonjames's topic in Bass Guitars
I tried both on my Precision but preferred the blend. In fact I used the blend more than the active 2 band active EQ On the Yamahas it's a pickup switch similar to a Rickenbacker and vol & tone. I run everything full on and it gives me the best sound.
