I always prefer Chromes on active basses. I've never had a good tone out of flats on a passive bass

Andrew still tours regularly and has a phenomenal drummer. Puts on a fantastic show - if you've never seen him live then you have to. Ticket prices are usually around the £15-20 mark

I've just fitted a new scratchplate to this and disconnected the Jazz pickup as I never use it. Still to take pics of it but this is what it was like when i bought it. Slim C Jazz neck.

Can I be the first to say Mex P with a Thick neck and a quarter pounder? There isn't another mex with this neck profile currently but it ain't even close to Roger's current bass
-
I've been waiting for someone to buy one of them to find out how good they are. I love precisions and I get fretless GAS all the time so interested to see how it performs. Interested to see if i could get a battery in the cavity for an EMG pickup. Usually the cavities are rather large

I've gone from an EMG active PJ system with 2 band eq to just the P pickup with a passive tone control and volume. I found that I never used the J pickup ever and had the EQ set flat. I just love the combination of EMG P pickup with the Chromes. I only use the volume when using a pick

It's been a while but I'm sure my Gallien Krueger 800RB had huge heatsinks on the back in lieu of a fan. As opposed to the 700 and 1001RBs which have a fan on the top for some reason

Well they don't call them Parcel Farce for nothing. Bunch of rank amateurs tried to deliver the bass to my work again. Luckily they left it at the local post office and I'm only two minutes along the road from where I work. First impressions are that It's a good, solid bass but I'll have to spend some time giving it a good setup. The B is a bit floppy but overall the string gauge seems a lot lighter than I am used to - somewhere along the lines of light like Rickenbacker stock strings. The neck is quite slim and that's coming from a thin C jazz neck on the precision. Quite shallow and not overly wide. I'll do a proper review once I've had a chance to set it up properly

Basses In/Basses Out 2014 - And What You've Learned......
Delberthot replied to spongebob's topic in General Discussion
Out: Epiphone EB-3 Fender MIM Jazz Squier VM 77 Jazz In: Yamaha BB425 (if it comes tomorrow) I've learned that after my third EB-3 they sound terrible, they don't balance very well and they caused my amp to feedback when I turned to face it. I, too, have discovered that jazz basses just don't do it for me and a Precision is all I need. After about 5 years without one I have decided to go for a 5 string as i am returning to playing in a wedding/function band next year and fancied a change. The Yamaha is still technically a precision -
Had a look at this going on your recommendation thanks checked out some youtube clips as well looks nice. let us know what its like, a review maybe ??
Well they don't call them Parcel Farce for nothing. Had I not called them then it would've sat at the depot until the end of time. It was showing as "held" and "customer requested late delivery", both of which were pish so I called them and told them to deliver it tomorrow. I should hopefully get it tomorrow and will give it a blast. My first 5 string since I had a Lave Pearl 5 string Stingray about 5 years ago

I bought the precision in my sig based on the way it looked and the neck. Had it have been a Squier then I'd still have bought it. The VM fretless Jazz I owned felt a bit like it was made of balsa wood. It felt like a toy. But the natural VM Jazz that I had felt pretty substantial. I don't know if the natural one had better and heavier wood for the body and the fretless had whatever as it was sunburst and didn't matter as much. Now this I love. It's a pity that most of the precisions have a jazz pickup as well. This is one of the few that don't. I don't need a jazz pickup and I think it spoils the look of the bass

The Laney cabs are big unknown for many people but look at it like this:

They're made from top quality materials and fitted with Celestion Neos.
The 4x10" weighs 27.5kg and the 1x15" is 21kg so they're light.
They're in incredibly good condition thanks to the Roqsolid covers and the fact that I look after my gear
Guitarist-proof metal grills
They go very loud
They look really cool
They will help you get girls*
What you have are two great cabs capable of going incredibly loud if the need arises. The amp I don't need to go into - it's a simple great sounding amp. Today's trade of choice would be a Precision of some description. Preferably red with maple fretboard or whatever as long as it's not a jazz bass. * ability to get girls not guaranteed as dependent on coolness of player, car and bass faces made during performance.

PJ pickup balance question. Also help me choose ;-)
Check out the EMG Geezer Butler set. People are raving about these pickups and I've not seen one bad review. The bridge pickup is noiseless and higher than usual output to match with the P too.
Contemplating giving these a whirl too on my Precision -
Facebook - add all your musician friends, you'll then get automatic suggestions of other friends that they might have who are also musicians. I sometimes just chance it and add friends of friends that @ don't know personally but I do know that they are musicians When my last function band ended I nearly jacked it all in after trying long and hard to find a new band. I changed my status one day to read that I had enough with all the time wasters, dreamers, cr@p musicians and egos and that if I didn't find anything soon I was going to sell up and take up stamp collecting or something. I got a reply back from a keyboard player i know who has one of the busiest wedding bands in Scotland to say "don't be silly, here's some gigs" I think I ended up playing 30 gigs with him that year.

After 18 fantastic months with the rock band I have joined a wedding/function band made up of the drummer and keyboard player from the wedding band I was in for 17 years, the guitarist from a rock band I was in for about the same length of time and a fantastic female singer (and it's not very often you'll hear me saying that) I am so looking forward to getting out with them. The first gig isn't until the end of March but I still have some gigs with the rock band until they get their new bass player up to speed with the set. I still plan on depping wherever possible but by the time the summer rolls in I'm out nearly every weekend with the new/old band.

How is the neck on this? I bought myself one of the special run of 50 Equatorial mahogany US models last year and the neck was so thick front to back to make it unplayable to me so it went back I'd still really like one of these and was thinking about it yesterday but not knowing how deep the neck is was putting me off.
