1. Chances are no - the're more likely to be along the lines of this
2. I have used Gallien Krueger amps for years and when I do sell one I try lots of other stuff before going back as I can never get "my sound" I've had my PF500 for a few months and am loving it. its very warm and to me is more versatile than the GK, plus it fits into a laptop bag. The choice of cab affects the sound as well - Whistle Binkies in Edinburgh has the same amp but uses an Ampeg cab and it sounds terrible. I don't know if its a sealed cab but its really muffled and wooly.
3. Hooray, I've decided yet again to change my cabs. I've decided on something different for my new band so am selling all of my cabs and starting again. First up is my Laney NX410. This is a 27kg 800w 4x10" 8ohm cab. I fitted wheels and got a Roqsolid cover for it since new and because I move my own gear it is in near mint condition. I would describe the sound as more old school in the same way that the NX115 I had before did. Laney cabs are made in the UK from marine grade plywood. They are also fitted with Celestion Neo speakers which also contributes to cutting out some of the weight found in regular cabs. The grill is even more solid than the old Trace Elliot ones that were pretty bomb proof as well. The second one is an older front shelf ported Ashdown ABM410. This one is 600w @ 8ohms. This one hasn't had a cover on it but is still in decent condition and fully working. Lastly is my Trace 4052H bright box. Surprisingly good condition for its age and fully working. For anyone who doesn't know what this is, its a high frequency horn box that you can run even if your amp is already down to its lowest impedance. Price wise, I'm looking for: Laney NX410 £300 Ashdown ABM410 £140 Trace 4052H £130 All prices are negotiable and I can post all three at cost. Just one pic for now but I'll upload more later
4. Chorus pedal now also sold - just the octave left
5. When I saw the first pic I thought the body was made of OSB
6. Going for buttons and pick up from Reading That's a crazy price
7. You really need to take the top of the amp off to check it. You don't say what amp you have but generally the UK distributors sell some spares so you can get the correct part. They can vary in size and shape and some are mounted onto the PCB
8.
Guitarists eh
Cant live with them, Can't tell them to bugger off
9.
these talks of ohms blow my mind! i dont have a clue how it all works, i expect to get a cab, plug in my amp and boom be away with it having my set up.. LH500 & 2 X Hydrive 410 cabs, i thought that this would use the full 500w that my amp has to offer by sending 250w equally to each cab, am i right or am i wrong? Anyway, so... if at rehearsals i add one of my hydrive cabs to the ashdown, will that pull all 500w from my amp?
Yes you're absolutely right. If you can't hear yourself with 8x10" speakers then you need to tell your guitarists to calm the hell down. I easily overpowered two of the loudest guitarists I'd ever come across with a GK 7000RB II (480w) and two Ashdown Mag cabs. MAG I tells ya If you think you need 8x10"s for rehearsals then you need a new band cos that's bloody silly. A single 4x10 and 350w from my Ampeg is more than enough with twin guitarists
10. I have to agree about the newer Mex Fenders. So much better IMO than previously. I can't fault mine and the necks on these are amazing
11.
THE colour for Precisions. Bump.
Indeed Seriously though, when you posted this ealier without the pics I knew it was going to be a cracker and it is. Absolutely amazing
12. Open to offers on one or both of these pedals. Not really looking for trades at present
13. v/t/v/t can be a right pain in the ar$e as the pickup volumes interact with each other. I've been down that road before and it didn't end well You'd be better off with standard jazz bass wiring v/v/t
14. I remember back to one of the last Scottish Guitar Shows at the SECC. There I was widdling away at age 18, talking to a guitarist with lots of curly hair talking about muso stuff. Such a nice guy. Later on I went into one of the big demo stages where I see the same guitarist on stage talking about stuff. It was Geoff Whitehorn pre his Paul Rodgers stuff and he was demoing for Marshall. One of the Marshall guys asked "who uses effects?" to which Geoff replies "Derek Does" Good job I don't have an ego otherwise my head wouldn't have made it out of there. I still have a signed copy of his album
15. I am in exactly this place right now - just joined a band that knows their sh!t, loads of gigs in the diary, no egos - love it
16. I've recently joined a new band and after 2 auditions and one rehearsal I had my first gig with them last Thursday at Whistle Binkies in Edinburgh. A nicer group of guys you'll never meet - they've gone way beyond the call of duty to make me feel at home. My first band ever since I picked up the bass at age eleven with two guitarists, its taken some getting used to. I've been used to filling out the low end, especially during guitar solos, so its really refreshing to find that I don't need to play a million notes when only a few are needed. I have had a sh!tload of songs to learn but there are some crackers in the set. Pump It Up - Elvis Costello, Song 2 - Blur, Mr Sharona - The Knack are but a small selection of what's on offer Anyway, click HERE to find out where we are playing next. Most of the website will contain pics of the original bass player until after I have some promo pics taken at Whistle Binkies on 5th September
17. £70 + postage will get you a Lollar which is IMO the best P bass pickup if you're looking for a good traditional P bass tone I'm not, that's why I have EMGs & the BTC system
18. Crazy - Gnarls Barclay is the stand out song of this century for me.
19. Flanger now sold and collected so only two left now
20. I do have a hard case that was originally for my Ibanez that I could use as I don't have a lot of packaging left anymore but it would add to the weight making it a bit more to post. I don't have anything that I need at the moment as far as trades go I've got the action down as low as it will go right now and its 4mm between fret and string at the 12th fret but there's a fair bit of buzzing around fret 15 and 16. I reckon if you tweaked the neck and added a shim, as the saddles are almost bottoming out, you should get it a good bit lower
21. I would say that the neck is pretty precision feeling. Certainly a big thicker than my Precision but it allegedly shares the same neck as the MIM Geddy Lee The truss rod works fine -as for how low it will go, I haven't spent much time setting it up as it was always intended to be a spare but I'll have a go when I get back from work tonight and see how low I can get it to go I love the bass and my wife doesn't want me to sell it and I don't need the cash for anything but to be honest I need something to motivate me to finish off my Ibanez
