1. Would the tension not be higher on this as I'm guessing the high E string would be higher tension than a low B and the others more or less the same?
2. This is what it should look like:
3. I've been carrying this with me to gigs as a spare and I've never actually used it live. I bought it used a couple of years ago and tinkered with it a bit. I've changed the wiring harness as the original was a bit flimsy, fitting solid shaft pots then realised that I didn't have knobs to match but I think it looks cool that way. I also removed the original pickup and fitted a DiMarzio Will Power as per the Billy Sheehan Yamaha. I have also polished the frets which was no easy task with the painted fretboard but a long time with the masking tape and steel wool and its looking good. There are a couple of dinks but nothing that I can see that goes through to the wood. Given the mods, including the cost of the pickup I'm looking at around £170 collected. Its been a while since I bought or sold anything and I don't have the cardboard and packing materials that I used to and I don't have a spare bag or case for it either. I could meet up within reason for a small petrol donation. Unfortunately its nigh on impossible to capture the colour correctly but here goes:
4. I've recently found myself a new band and so I'm not going to need these anymore. All pedals are in full working condition with the usual marks associated with floor bass effects. The flanger is missing its label underneath but I'm pretty certain its a made in Taiwan one. All prices are ono. They are: [s]Boss BF-3 Flanger £45 + postage[/s] [s]Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble £45 + postage[/s] Dod FX-35 Octoplus £40 + postage
5.
As a band I play with regularly tune a semitone flat, higher tension might be to my advantage. Noted.
Roto 50s tuned down a semitone sound really good Also, Roto Solo bass strings are not flats - they're pressure wound
6. Having owned 5s and 6s for years if I need to play anything as low as that I'll either just use the 2nd fret on the A string or 7th on the E or if I can get away with it use an octave pedal. I've played "Everything" by Michael Bubble on many an occasion using a 4 string and it sounds just as good (the song's pi$h though) Using a thick enough E and a light touch you can get it down to C but if you think about it you'd be playing your lowest string all the way up to the 9th fret before you could use any of the other strings unless you were playing octaves or something.
7. I'm a bit OCD about having cables around me so wireless was the only choice. I've been using the Line6 G30 for just over a year and its been faultless. I have mine zip tied to my strap as I couldn't find a holster I liked. The only minor issue I had was that when I bought it it would occasionally cut out for a split second and I discovered that it didn't like sitting on top of my amp - maybe the transformer or something in the amp interfering with the recevier at such close proximity but I have it on a pedal board on the floor now and have never had it happen since. I've gone between wireless and cable and never noticed a difference in sound quality
8. And ordered Back to the original question - I've never tried them but was going to try Roto Solo strings as an alternative on a fretless but never got round to it. There's loads of topics on here and Talkbs about them
9. Ooh I didn't know that - just been onto stringsdirect - £10 for a 110 should do the trick Cheers
10. I haven't found anything like chromes. They are brighter than any of the other flats I've used and couldn't be further away from the sound of TIs or Rotos. I'm using 40-100 and they're fantastic but the E gets too floppy when I use my detuner to go down to D- to get a thicker E I need 50s but they're way too high tension
11. One of my earliest influences as I was really into Clapton at the time. This video was the reason I switched to 5 and then 6 string http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JlvvvzYEtaU
12. I think they are but wrong end of the country I'm afraid
13. It depends what range of Laney we're talking about here. I don't have any experience of the older stuff but even the Richter range uses Celestion speakers. I use a Nexus 4x10" and I wouldn't call it budget by any stretch of the imagination. Celestion Neo drivers, marine grade ply and are still built in the UK for a little over Chinese Ashdown ABM money. And 10kgs lighter than an ABM410. They're just not trendy in the slightest so the downside is that if you buy new you're going to lose a lot of money if you come to sell but the upside is that they can be had for peanuts. I'm on the look out for another 4x10" or 1x15" from the same range If the guy is selling a Nexus 4x10" and you decide to pass then let me know.
14. They are alledgedly Rotosound nickels in a different packet - someone on here found a Rotosound QC ticket inside a pack of theirs. And yes they are good
15. And the picture has been nicked from me so its not even of his bass Its surf blue and was defretted. the first bass I ever sold on Ebay
16. I've recently found myself in the position of not having a regular band anymore so am doing dep work with various bands. there's one band that I'm doing a fair amount of work for doing weddings and functions. I had the feeling that i was getting less than the other regular members of the band and had this confirmed last night when overheard someone last night saying words to the effect of there's XXXXX (band member's) money and there's YYYYYY (YYYYY being me) Now in other wedding bands I'm getting anywhere between £160 - £200 per wedding which is evenly split between all members and me. I'm coming out of every gig with £100 which is still good but there's no way a fully booked wedding band is going out for £500. A drummer friend who has also played with them told me to watch out as the band leader would try to pay me less. These are big, expensive wedding venues as well. So what do I do? If I get it wrong I risk losing out on a lot of work but I've put a lot of effort and time into learning their set in a short space of time only for the band leader to withhold money that he would normally have paid their regular bass player. I'm always first there and I'm the first to help them loading and unloading their gear after I've moved mine. They are a good band and I get on well with them but I don't want to approach this the wrong way or do I just keep quiet?
17. PM'd and payment sent for ODB-3 & GEB-7
18.
It's been widely commented on already in this forum and elsewhere, but TC's model numbers do not relate directly to the output power when measured conventionally.
I've heard that this is also true of Peavey's current combos
19. How is that bass tuned as the lowest string appears to be an E ? E A D G C F or E A D G B E ? I've posted this before but I love this tune. Slapping on an 8 string bass, whoda thunk it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4IwObrJre5M
20. At one point last year I was in a wedding/function band, a rock band, a Beatles tribute, another wedding/function band and depping. The problem arises when one or more of the bands gets busier and you've got to prioritise one over the other unless the each band knows that if band A gets a gig then you can't do one for band B, they have to get a dep and they're happy about the situation. I was the latter as the rock band and tribute were made of musicians who, like myself, played in other wedding/function bands and gigged for the hell of it some weekends
21. t depends on whether you want the clank all the time or just when you need it. I set up my basses so that when playing normally there is no fret rattle but when you dig in, that's when you get the clank - comes from years in wedding/function bands where clank isn't going to sound too good if you're playing Moon River or other stuff where you need a smooth tone. I use roto flats as on all my basses which shows that you don't need rounds on it and I don't recall Flea using Status basses to any great degree, if at all. In fact if you can still find it, there's an earlyYoutube video of Flea using a Black Precision bass live and still getting his sound
22. I once knew a guy that was half French and half Polish - he was a French Polisher Thanks you, I'm here all week - what do you mean its thursday tomorrow?
23.
Whether it's *everyones* description of punchy or not is debatable.....
At least it wasn't just me then that thought then.
24. I've used Nightfreight through Parcel monkey a few times and they're really good for large items such as cabs. Parcelmonkey communication is poor at best - if you contact them during the day, do not expect a response before 2am. Nightfreight do not offer tracking but if you call your local depot with just your name and postcode they can tell you if its out for delivery. Don't call the Night Freight number on the Parcelmonkey website as I'm sure its a phone in a locked cupboard somewhere as no one will answer it but the local one will get you through no probs. I posted a 75cm x 77cm x 53cm box containing a 28kg cab fully insured for £20 and I'll use them again for anything else that size
25. I've been watching these for a few weeks now and you'll be lucky if it doesn't sell for three times the current £30 bid. One sold the other day for £111 + postage I'm looking at alternatives now cos the prices are getting silly
