You really need to take the top of the amp off to check it. You don't say what amp you have but generally the UK distributors sell some spares so you can get the correct part. They can vary in size and shape and some are mounted onto the PCB
these talks of ohms blow my mind! i dont have a clue how it all works, i expect to get a cab, plug in my amp and boom be away with it having my set up.. LH500 & 2 X Hydrive 410 cabs, i thought that this would use the full 500w that my amp has to offer by sending 250w equally to each cab, am i right or am i wrong? Anyway, so... if at rehearsals i add one of my hydrive cabs to the ashdown, will that pull all 500w from my amp?
Yes you're absolutely right. If you can't hear yourself with 8x10" speakers then you need to tell your guitarists to calm the hell down. I easily overpowered two of the loudest guitarists I'd ever come across with a GK 7000RB II (480w) and two Ashdown Mag cabs. MAG I tells ya If you think you need 8x10"s for rehearsals then you need a new band cos that's bloody silly. A single 4x10 and 350w from my Ampeg is more than enough with twin guitarists

v/t/v/t can be a right pain in the ar$e as the pickup volumes interact with each other. I've been down that road before and it didn't end well You'd be better off with standard jazz bass wiring v/v/t

I remember back to one of the last Scottish Guitar Shows at the SECC. There I was widdling away at age 18, talking to a guitarist with lots of curly hair talking about muso stuff. Such a nice guy. Later on I went into one of the big demo stages where I see the same guitarist on stage talking about stuff. It was Geoff Whitehorn pre his Paul Rodgers stuff and he was demoing for Marshall. One of the Marshall guys asked "who uses effects?" to which Geoff replies "Derek Does" Good job I don't have an ego otherwise my head wouldn't have made it out of there. I still have a signed copy of his album
-
I am in exactly this place right now - just joined a band that knows their sh!t, loads of gigs in the diary, no egos - love it
-
I've recently joined a new band and after 2 auditions and one rehearsal I had my first gig with them last Thursday at Whistle Binkies in Edinburgh. A nicer group of guys you'll never meet - they've gone way beyond the call of duty to make me feel at home. My first band ever since I picked up the bass at age eleven with two guitarists, its taken some getting used to. I've been used to filling out the low end, especially during guitar solos, so its really refreshing to find that I don't need to play a million notes when only a few are needed. I have had a sh!tload of songs to learn but there are some crackers in the set. Pump It Up - Elvis Costello, Song 2 - Blur, Mr Sharona - The Knack are but a small selection of what's on offer Anyway, click HERE to find out where we are playing next. Most of the website will contain pics of the original bass player until after I have some promo pics taken at Whistle Binkies on 5th September

£70 + postage will get you a Lollar which is IMO the best P bass pickup if you're looking for a good traditional P bass tone I'm not, that's why I have EMGs & the BTC system

I do have a hard case that was originally for my Ibanez that I could use as I don't have a lot of packaging left anymore but it would add to the weight making it a bit more to post. I don't have anything that I need at the moment as far as trades go I've got the action down as low as it will go right now and its 4mm between fret and string at the 12th fret but there's a fair bit of buzzing around fret 15 and 16. I reckon if you tweaked the neck and added a shim, as the saddles are almost bottoming out, you should get it a good bit lower
-
I would say that the neck is pretty precision feeling. Certainly a big thicker than my Precision but it allegedly shares the same neck as the MIM Geddy Lee The truss rod works fine -as for how low it will go, I haven't spent much time setting it up as it was always intended to be a spare but I'll have a go when I get back from work tonight and see how low I can get it to go I love the bass and my wife doesn't want me to sell it and I don't need the cash for anything but to be honest I need something to motivate me to finish off my Ibanez

I want to change my six string over to EADGBE. Help!
Delberthot replied to gazgoldstar's topic in Bass Guitars
Would the tension not be higher on this as I'm guessing the high E string would be higher tension than a low B and the others more or less the same? -
This is what it should look like:

I've been carrying this with me to gigs as a spare and I've never actually used it live. I bought it used a couple of years ago and tinkered with it a bit. I've changed the wiring harness as the original was a bit flimsy, fitting solid shaft pots then realised that I didn't have knobs to match but I think it looks cool that way. I also removed the original pickup and fitted a DiMarzio Will Power as per the Billy Sheehan Yamaha. I have also polished the frets which was no easy task with the painted fretboard but a long time with the masking tape and steel wool and its looking good. There are a couple of dinks but nothing that I can see that goes through to the wood. Given the mods, including the cost of the pickup I'm looking at around £170 collected. Its been a while since I bought or sold anything and I don't have the cardboard and packing materials that I used to and I don't have a spare bag or case for it either. I could meet up within reason for a small petrol donation. Unfortunately its nigh on impossible to capture the colour correctly but here goes:

I've recently found myself a new band and so I'm not going to need these anymore. All pedals are in full working condition with the usual marks associated with floor bass effects. The flanger is missing its label underneath but I'm pretty certain its a made in Taiwan one. All prices are ono. They are: [s]Boss BF-3 Flanger £45 + postage[/s] [s]Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble £45 + postage[/s] Dod FX-35 Octoplus £40 + postage
As a band I play with regularly tune a semitone flat, higher tension might be to my advantage. Noted.
Roto 50s tuned down a semitone sound really good Also, Roto Solo bass strings are not flats - they're pressure wound
-
Having owned 5s and 6s for years if I need to play anything as low as that I'll either just use the 2nd fret on the A string or 7th on the E or if I can get away with it use an octave pedal. I've played "Everything" by Michael Bubble on many an occasion using a 4 string and it sounds just as good (the song's pi$h though) Using a thick enough E and a light touch you can get it down to C but if you think about it you'd be playing your lowest string all the way up to the 9th fret before you could use any of the other strings unless you were playing octaves or something.

I'm a bit OCD about having cables around me so wireless was the only choice. I've been using the Line6 G30 for just over a year and its been faultless. I have mine zip tied to my strap as I couldn't find a holster I liked. The only minor issue I had was that when I bought it it would occasionally cut out for a split second and I discovered that it didn't like sitting on top of my amp - maybe the transformer or something in the amp interfering with the recevier at such close proximity but I have it on a pedal board on the floor now and have never had it happen since. I've gone between wireless and cable and never noticed a difference in sound quality
