I don’t know who that is you are referring to but those sort of guys are amazing. You wouldn’t give them a second glance in the street or even at a gig until they start laying down a groove which makes your hair stand on end. SBL - I am so sick of channels like this where it’s all fancy noodling and precious little musicality. Especially when they test gear and it’s all crazy slap or noodly stuff at the top of the fretboard. I’ve recently found a good channel which isn’t massively popular but he plays all sorts of real nice music and is clearly accomplished at all sorts of genres - I will try to find a link. Well he always has them out on hire and is always looking for more to add to stock. I doubt the price to hire/deliver/pick them up will be paid by people just wanting them as stage candy. I was going to go and have a play through a few he has this week but they are all out on hire. Maybe people still use them on anger but the convenience of having someone deliver them and maintain them for them is attractive. I read that post about bargain basement amps but I’ve not come across anyone selling stuff at bargain prices. I’ll ask my friend who is using them, maybe it will enlighten us all. He is a pro sound engineer so will know if they are being used as they were designed.

Love machine is a GREAT song, I love punk and New York hardcore but that song get me singing every time. When pop is done well it’s unbeatable.

A friend of mine owns a back line hire company and keeps sending me pics of their bass gear. Which I can’t afford nor need but I will be going to play though some of their kit soon I hope. This is some of the SVT bass stuff he has. I know his dad used to work for Sugden amplifiers BITD IIRC and he is very good with electronics so together they have been able to keep them in great working order. He has GK and TC gear to hire out too. I am thinking it might be not good to go and play though it as I reckon nothing else will quite sound the same - but I have to, don’t I? (I won’t post the name of his company as not sure if it’s allowed? If I can I will do, any guidance?)

I just found out that the bassist from Huey Lewis and the News used a thumb pick - I might give one a go - has anyone else tried one with a bass??

Still looking despite mine now working. A friend of mine made a cab himself which sounds amazing so I’m going to speak to him to see if I can do the same. Now mine is working I can take my time to find what I want.

No it hasn’t. Weirdly I just took it apart and checked the connections again and it’s working again fine.

The Ashdown combo sound I wasn't enthralled by when I tested them but their customer service reputation really draws them to me if I’m being honest. No point in using something amazing if it never works.

Thanks. I was looking at one of the Fender Rumble heads, but was worried the increased wattage may be too much for my GK if used as a cab only. It’s a 1x12, not sure on the watt/ohm situation. I loved the Rumble sound on their combos and was going to buy one until I found the GK second hand. I’m the same as you I would prefer to buy new, I will probably go to a couple of shops to test out what they have tomorrow.

I’ve only ever had one amp, this one, so am open to anything. The GK stuff is really expensive too, new and used. Thanks for being the only person to try and help with what I asked for though!

It’s the amp. I studied electronics and i can’t figure out what’s up with it. All the components I can test seem ok and all the connectors are ok, continuity seem ok. No idea what’s up.

Can’t seem to find anywhere in West Yorks that will look at it.

My GK combo, which I love, an MB112mk2, appears to have bitten the dust - I can’t seem to fix it (I do know electronics a bit and I can’t see anything wrong with it) which is annoying for a £600 combo. i want to get a new amp but would probably prefer a separate head and cab. But it’s a minefield and I don’t have the luxury to swap things around if what I buy doesn’t sound right. I’m thinking a 2x10 cab with an amp in the 500w range would be a good step up from what I have now but still be compact enough for use at home but be good for the sort of gig I hope to do one day. Play with a pick mainly rock/punk stuff. Needs to be relatively lightweight as it’ll get moved often. I was hoping to sell my combo to go towards the new setup but it looks like a no-go now so I maybe have £500 to spend on it all. Ideas?

I did think that but I’ve no idea what the spec of the speaker is and I’m wanting to go around 500w next and I don’t think the 1x12 combo speaker will handle anywhere new that (it’s £200 currently) I’ve tried to fix my amp but it’s beyond me an ok struggling to find anyone who can fix it. Not great for a £600 combo.
