  1. I too thought was good until the vocals came in ! She is a good singer but didn’t feel it suited the genre that well
  2. I guess if I stick to my £300 tops kind of budget for new I’m limited to the smaller wattage heads which perhaps will spend most of its life unused in preference to using the RM800 for all gigs I will give it some thought and maybe park the idea for now.
  3. Yep I guess the desire is to have a second amp Yes I can use the RM800 for everything even home practice My only other amp is an Ampeg BA110 40w combo which naturally wouldn’t be loud enough!
  4. Thanks guys ... some good suggestions Also some good reasons not to get one ! The other benefit is I can have the small head rig as a backup I think based on my budget it could be a new head 200 to 300w so perhaps the RM300 ?
  5. Thanks guys .. yep I’m trying to keep costs down as it’s more than likely going to be my second choice amp out of the house where I’m more likely to take the RM800 So budget I would say £300 approx or less !
  6. Thanks .. I have the RM800 and it’s great 👍
  7. As long as the 300 head is loud enough into 8ohms I’m happy Prefer new or newish say five years old tops There are loads of 200 / 250 heads such as Elf, TC Bam, Mark Bass Black Edition etc that look ok but I don’t think they would be loud enough into 8 ohms ... Maybe the Ashdown ABM300 or RM300 ??
  8. Looking for a loud 300W bass head It will be used only with a single 8ohm cab and needed for small pub / bar gigs with a drummer and guitarist playing soft rock / pop kind of stuff My main amp is rated at 800w so I’m covered for the majority of gigs but fancy a second bass head that gives out a decent volume for its rating I guess running into a single 8ohm it will be pushing out around 200W approx Ideas please ?
  9. I had a new black one arrive from PMT as a new purchase but it’s condition was a bit tatty and more like B stock so I returned it. In the end got a PBass ! In my past I did play an EB Stingray 4 USA and always thought I would stick with active basses but I think the PBass is hard to beat as a good all rounder
  10. Some interesting comments about pick or fingers ... I think although I can do both, I do find that it comes down to two things for me in choice 1: Feel .. far more connected feeling using fingers and feels more natural and I can concentrate on the fretting hand more than the plucking hand 2: Some songs for me need a pick more so for the tone / sound and attack / speed but mostly the tone !
  11. Emotional Fish - Celebrate Great bass intro
  12. Most if not all of my bass playing has been with fingers ( rock / pop ) and I’m pretty good at it ... however I love the tone you get from a pick especially with a PBass As a guitar player I’m decent using a pick so I’m leaning towards playing mostly pick instead of mostly fingers I think the pick tone for certain genres cannot be beaten and try as I do with fingers it’s not as punchy as using a pick Anyone else given over to the pick only ? Naturally I could use both but I think for playing rock and setting my amp EQ etc I will stick going forward with a pick
  13. Yep that Minimax isn’t a bad amp, slightly noisy fan if I recall but defo good value for money and compact
  14. Firstly if you are aiming for a typical drums guitar vocals band then I would look for either a good 1x15 cab and at least 300W but ideally 500W I can recommend the Ashdown RM series bass heads such as RM500
  15. Well I always gig with an amp and separate cabs so I think a small backup head is sensible Any suggestions that can hang with a drummer and guitarist playing rock ? Small to medium venues
  16. Do you suffer from faster fret wear using steels instead of nickel ? I assume they are stainless steel and harder than nickel
  17. Interested if you gigging ( when it returns ) guys always have a back up amp ? My only and current rig is new and I don’t know if when I get back to gigging what to have as a backup in case of issues arising My current need is 300 to 400w into a single 8ohm cab up to medium sized venues etc Or have no spare amp and just have a di pedal in my bag Ideas please .. if suggesting amps keep the cost down please to around £300
  18. Rock with a funky groove ideally
  19. All of my bass gear was purchased online during lockdown But I did sell off a ton of guitar gear and amps / pedals as I packed playing guitar in favour for a return to bass My earliest bass rig was an Ampeg SVT CL Head and 610 cab, Stingray bass which I sold off many years back
  20. So many used sales never happen as sellers reluctant to ship The solution ( when allowed ) of hand delivery or meet half way etc at cost would move a lot more goods Whenever I see something secondhand I like it’s mostly .. collection only Lets face it you are really limiting your market by asking for collection only. I do agree about the high priced insurance issue when shipping as it really pushes up the price. People just don’t like paying shipping when it’s much over £20 or better still free 👍
  21. Ok for fun and with anticipation for gigging later this year what’s songs would you put in a new fresh set list ? Style / Genre Rock and funky Rock / Pop I would start with ... as suggestions 1: Two Princes 2: Place Your Hands 3: Mr Jones etc etc etc
  22. I’ve used DPD for many guitar and amp sales / shipments Everyone without hitch
  23. Well I’m tempted to get a back up amp but holding back as I need to get a full band on its way over the next two months. I only have a single amp / cab and PBass !!
  24. Just ordered 👍
  25. A lot of songs start off being written on the bass .. The bass really is more important than the guitar in many songs !
