  1. Played a hot and sweaty pub gig last night in Stanton Suffolk ( many punters outside due to heat ) Jazz bass used with a pick through my Ashdown ABM600 and SVT212AV cab. Very pleased as I had a great sound and using the pick really improved the clarity. Happy venue who claimed we were the best covers band they had ever booked !! Drink 🍺 talk I assume !!! It was a revelation for me who in the past played finger style but always found something lacking. The new set up with a pick, EQ pedal, Jazz bass and both pups on full sounded good. This is my new favourite pick
  2. My solution was ( with my Jazz ) a simple fix ) Note the Jazz text is only on the image for reminder not on the actual MXR !!
  3. Gig night tonight with the Jazz bass and this time playing it with a pick In fact a Yellow 0.73mm Tortex Triangle pick ! MXR EQ pedal set for pick tone ( Mids reduced and 100hz boosted. ) Sounds sweet at home, fingers crossed it sounds good loud. Both pups on full and tone backed off a little
  4. Another vote for the awesome ELF
  5. I used the CTM100 for live gigs and it was just about right for medium sized pubs and clubs
  6. I might be heading to Salford later this month … let me think more about it.
  7. I leave it on all the time. No it doesn’t sound like a PBass it sounds like a Jazz bass but with more mids so it sits in the mix better Jazz bass is deeper than a PBass but lacks low mids when both pickups are on. Tonight I tried it at rehearsals and both pickups on with EQ pedal = nice tone Turn bridge pup down to say 50% and it sounds a little louder but deeper and darker ( not really PBass or Jazz )
  8. Something like the MXR 6 band ( that’s what I use ) or Boss GEB-7 ( someone selling one on here ) It really does work .. I tried different pickups, wiring in series, Rotosound s/s strings and I was not impressed. Popped Fender Pure Nickel Roundwounds on her, stock pups and adjusted the EQ using me MXR in front of amp and gigged it ( instead of my PBass ) and it was one of the best sounds I’ve ever had !! ( I play rock ) Definitely punchy, present in the mix and deep lows that filled the room. Stopped me selling it !!
  9. Ok Ive just been there too Firstly put both pups on full and on your amp or EQ pedal boost the low mids 400-800hz approx and set your amp input and level based on both pups on fully. You will get a very nice sound that in my opinion is even nicer than the PBass tone Try it .. for me it works instead of trying to make it sound near to a PBass. The natural thing is turn one pick up down and the volume increases and you set things like that. The Jazz bass is sounding its best with both pups fully open but it scoops the mids. The deep lows and highs are there but no low mids. If you boost the low mids on your amp or EQ pedal the sound is huge and very very nice
  10. I tried hard wiring my pups in series and it ruined the sound of my Jazz Didnt sound like a Jazz or a PBass !
  11. 100 % agree … they are all decent and helpful folk. Their after sales service regardless if you are the original purchaser is famed as one of the best in the amp world. They do have some aging staff ( Guy just retired, Dave Green must be close ) so hopefully new blood will arrive. Dan is doing a fine job after his dad stood down. A visit is quite a surprise as they are not a big company in size but their achievements are to be commended. I still miss my CTM100 but I have the ABM600 which always does the job. Great Company
  12. So far the ones ordered from EBay have all been spot on £12 each !
  13. Decided to go black on the pickguard and I’m liking the look
  14. I also think it all depends on the music / band etc. I’ve seen many bands where you can hardly hear the bass player ( often by choice ) and in that situation what he / she plays makes zero difference. But in a band with a strong bass sound ( rock trios etc ) it’s something that does make a difference for sure to the band sound. May not make a difference to the audience yet again maybe it does because if the band as a whole sounds good you’ve done your job well. For me it was a nice discovery hearing a Jazz bass in a rock band environment where it tried to sound like a Jazz bass and not mimic a PBass.
  15. Exactly this ^ I was trying to emulate a PBass tone and avoided the both pups on full sound. But increased my amp volume, added mids in my MXR EQ pedal and I found a new great tone that is deep in the gut bass with punch and clarity
  16. I wear varifocals most of the time and occasionally contacts. Don’t enjoy wearing glasses to gig ( vanity and the fact it makes you look older ) Until they make better multi vision contacts that don’t dry up after 6 hrs I’m stuck with them !!
  17. Set of Dimarzio DP123BK Jazz bass pickups complete with mounting screws and instructions Powerful hum free pickups and great tone Price includes U.K. postage
  18. Gigged last night and used my Player Series Jazz bass which is now back to stop pickups and Nickel Roundwounds. In the past I ran it to try and mimic a PBass ( neck pup on full, bridge in 50%, tone full on ) but last night .., I used it with both pickups on full, tone on full and then used my EQ pedal to boost 400-800hz. It sounded amazing in the rock band with gut rumbling lows ( deeper than a PBass ) and using the MXR 6 band EQ pedal I could put back some mids that get scooped with both pups in together. It fitted every song very well and it’s the first time I think I understood what a Jazz bass can really sound like. With EQ adjustment it sounded really good and different to the PBass thump. Better ?? Not sure but I like it and it’s worked out well.
  19. I’ve just sold mine 😳🙄… great as it was / is I found I didn’t use the Di ( I use my amps ) and I used it more for EQ and warmth / drive. For the money I felt I could achieve what I was using with my Ampeg Opto Comp, MXR EQ and the amp. If I didn’t have the pedals it was a keeper as it’s brilliant but pricey. My ToneHammer head or ABM600 can achieve the drive tone when needed but I think it’s a major step up from the SCR-Di
  20. It’s very versatile.. some state the compressor isn’t great but I found it acceptable. Make sure you turn the right inner or outer control as it’s easy to get them back to front !!
