Jazz has the edge for certain genres but for the rest it’s got to be a PBass

And or … buy an amp head that doesn’t have a history or thermal shutdowns !

As a newish user of a Jazz bass i still love the simplicity of my PBass and its tone. It’s hard to beat however … A nice Jazz offers a different variation in tone which I’ve recently experimented with.. Tried Dimarzio DP123BK pickups, Tried Rotosound RS66LD strings, I still gig with my PBass though !!

I would run it into the amp input and set the amp EQ flat and use the SGT for EQ / Drive and when needed take DI from either amp or pedal. I’ve tried using an amps Return and never feel I get the same as using the amp input which to me gives far more EQ tweeks etc

My son is an actor and they are ( back at acting school ) taught how to respond to the public with regards Multi Media platforms. Some heed this advice and some don’t and often get dragged into an online dispute about something trivial. My son is getting familiar with the potential paparazzi issues and “ Joe Public” that will soon come his way if his success continues. He is currently on set filming season 2 of a Sci Fi show for SKY and naturally I’m very proud of him.

Anyone using the MXR M109S 6 band EQ pedal on bass if so any good ? I notice it stops at 100hz Not interested in the 10 band version

Ok Dimarzio DP123 loaded into my Player Jazz and … very different Firstly no more hum when one pup ON The change to the tone is quite dramatic and more dark deep and PBass like. With both pups on together sounds fuller and less “ mid suck “ and generally a hotter signal output too. I think they are a good tonal upgrade and will be put through their paces very soon. TOP TIP: don’t use the Fender foam under the DP123 as it will be near on impossible to compress and get them low enough. I used some of the foam that came in the Dimarzio packaging ( less dense ) and it worked well.

Just fitted a set of Dimarzio DP123 into my Jazz ( Player Series ) Firstly no hum even if only one pup on. They are best described as darker and deeper sounding with less treble Heading more towards a PBass tone but still got the Jazz growl If swopping pups measure neck and bridge as some older basses have the same width but newer basses have a wider bridge pup compared to the neck Mine cost £138 and I’m liking the sound.

I have one and it’s more blue metallic Popped a black pickguard on it and HiMass bridge -
We do the same song ( female singer ) but we reversed it in as much our guitarist starts it off and I come in where the bass part starts. It sounds really full sounding that way and easier too !!

Yes I’m trying to hot rod my Jazz to make it more like my other two PBass guitars but with a bit more clarity when required from the bridge pup

Sorry I meant the WS-50 Lekato was the unit I returned as it distorted slightly the input signal
-
Already went for the Harley Benton Pro unit and it’s superb
-
Interesting topic and some parallels to the amp I think in particular how the drive alters the tone / EQ
-
Depends on which cab … the ported ABM series are dark sounding or vintage sounding and without finesse but do their job very well. The sealed Neo cabs are less bass focused and tighter sounding They are decent sounding cabs and average in the efficiency ratings
-
I ordered the WL-50 and found it had a tiny bit of distortion in the signal so I sent it back. Shame as a cheap unit it looked promising It was with a passive PBass I gave the WL-80 2.4 ghz model and that seems ok I guess the QA is hit and miss with the low end units

Anyone tried / using the Dimarzio J Pup DP123 set in their Fender Jazz ? Im looking for a bit more depth and grunt to my Jazz and these seem a decent upgrade to the stock Player series pups

Ok folks .. so I tried a set of Elites Stadium stainless rounds 45-105 in my PBass and they were terrible !! Too harsh and too many overtones I’m back with Fender 7250m NP strings ( stock on most Fenders ) and I’m ok with them .. I have tried also Fender 7150 Pure Nickel in 45-100 ( higher tension than NP strings ) and very nice but less mids and warmer sound.
-
I guess they must have less tension as I use std 45-105 gauge from other brands and they work well at Eb tuning
