I have two PBass player series and as working basses used in the band they are superb instruments for me. Sensible price and easy to add simple mods like hi mass bridge etc etc Working bass for £700 new is a no brainer for me and they look and play good

Gigged most of the night using a pick and did notice I made more errors and it didn’t feel connected Half way through second set I upped the mids on my amp and played fingerstyle. The only thing it showed is I’m better at fingerstyle and I need new strings !!

In all the working bands I’ve been in ( weekend warriors at best ) we have never needed booking conditions until recently It’s to make it clear that the band needs a certain setup space with power, access to the venue for unloading / loading, parking and our agreed rate and playing time. We nearly fell foul of a booking where clearly inside is too small and they were putting us outside virtually in the frontage next to the road !!! We withdrew our booking and cancelled it. We have now created basic booking conditions stating minimum set up space, power, parking and conditions for performing outside. We were lucky to find a new venue that is larger and has proper space for bands. I think venues think bands are like solo / duo acts where you can shove them in the corner near the toilets or next to the dartboard and think it’s a music venue !!

Which case is the best for a PBass Fender Classic Series Wood or the Fender Deluxe Moulded Case ? I’ve had cheap cases before but want a nice case now that fits bass snuggly
-
Lo Riders in bound !! They are hex core so stiffer tension so it may help tuning to Eb Youre right though as I tune down standard 45-100 nickel wound Fender strings without issue.

Changing A Bass Bridge. Have you done it?
BassAdder60 replied to bassjim's topic in General Discussion
If I recall some of USA PBass have the HiMass bridge .. not sure which model perhaps the Performer Series ? I swopped both of mine ( straight swop ) to Fender HiMass ) and it’s never had an issue with loose screws since. Action adjustment was fine and it in my opinion just looks nicer and has Fender stamped on it 👍 Simplest improvement to a bass and worth doing. Tone and sustain are the same though it just looks better -
I’ve considered this bass too but body size / look put me off. I hear they are superb build quality though

Lo Riders or Hi Beams ?

So … I’m learning more about this amp in particular the gain / drive / master vol Many very happy users and some using it with gain set very low and master very high. Tried this today and this cleans the amp up nicely and makes the drive control more like a mids tone control boost. Definitely a very different amp to many class D and easy to get confused about the gain / EQ / drive / master relationship Nice amp

"Tightening" up the tone from my E String ......

I’ve had this but changing to 45-100 gauge helped a lot -
Nice looking rig Are they 115 Pro Neo cabs ?

Thank you .. just amended my order to 45/100 Lo Riders 👍

Gigging last night using my Dunlop Delrin 500 2mm picks and I started to find the pick moving in my fingers, never dropped it but enough for it to affect my playing. Changed to fingerstyle ( quick boost of mids on my amp ) and that “ connection” you get fingerstyle was a happy return as was the full thump and depth of note. Back to fingers for me as I find it hard to beat

Anyone using DR Hi Beams 45-105 on a PBass ? Or 45-100 Lo Riders ? Im tuned 1/2 step down so I’m hoping they work well ( normally use Fender Nickel Plated rounds ) Seeking a brighter sounding string for finger style rock

I use my cheap Lekato WL-80 for soundcheck only then switch to a cable for the gig I had the Boss WL20 and Line 6 G30 but suffered drop outs at certain venues. Cable for me is the preferred solution

New amp opinion/advice - Darkglass, Blackstar or Orange
BassAdder60 replied to markbunney's topic in Amps and Cabs
I would look at the Aguilar Tone Hanmer amps as they are USA built and very reliable Prices have recently dropped a bit too making them a good buy They sound amazing but compared to the LBT I would say a warmer tone, definitely a vintage tube kind of tone. Ashdown RM500 is also a popular choice and sounds lovely -
What promo efforts work for your band?

We play Suffolk / Norfolk venues all the time. Can take a year to get a booking at the better venues -
I tried the TC Spectracomp and found it ok but nothing special and was always loading new toneprints. Personally I didn’t like the MXR I just couldn’t get on with it and found the controls slightly confusing at first. Best by far has been the Keeley Limiting Amplifier as it just works and is easy to set and doesn’t add any colouring etc Ive also just got the Boss LMB3 and it’s a very nice easy to use pedal even though it’s not the most attractive looking pedal. I wanted a pedal that protected my amp input from large spikes in sound playing live, but I got more than that as it tightened the overall sound as well. So Keeley or LMB3 would get my vote

I’ve tried my ELF at rehearsals as it’s my backup amp too. I could easily gig with it using my SVT212AV 4 ohm cab as it’s loud enough yet still stays clean. Not sure if it would cope running around 3/4 volume all night but it definitely has the power to gig in a loud pub band scenario The other point is it sounds very good, a bit like an ABM or RM amp

I’m a proud owner of the TH700 and don’t own any Aguilar cabs yet only Ampeg and Ashdown They are top price in the U.K. or so it appears

Suggestions for something similar to replace my Little Mark III
BassAdder60 replied to ikay's topic in Amps and Cabs
Yes definitely RM500 would get my vote 👍 -
Why do you think turning up will make it boomy ? It shouldn’t You could use various old school methods like turn down the vol on your bass slightly for normal playing and max it for solo time or .. Get an EQ pedal or Spark Booster pedal and press on it at the required moment or … Use playing dynamics and play harder to increase volume slightly
