I can also vouch for their excellent service Recently my ABM210H cab was sounding odd from one of the 10” speakers I took the front grille off removed the speaker and saw one of the connections felt loose After sorting that I managed to lose one of the black screws !! A quick message to Dave asking what screws they use and he said I will pop you some in the post !! They really go beyond good service, in fact I would say they are the best U.K. based company for service and backup even after warranty often with little or no cost. My last visit to see them, Dan, Georgina and Dave I took two packets of biscuits to say thanks

Indeed !! Im sure after my next gig I will be looking at something !!!

After fitting Dimarzios to both my Player Series I thought I had found the tone I liked. Sadly great as it is I missed something So back in goes the CS62 pickup The CS62 is warmer and less hot but better overall clarity and handles the low end better with the CTM100 valve head. It does have a slight mid scoop but with EQ tweeks I can pop more mids in It doesn’t sound harsh so suits a mix of genres but still works well when belting out The Trooper !!! Was getting slightly fed up with so many changes but I think I’m at the right place now and with my new pedals too it gives me what I need

Well ., after experimenting with the Ampeg Opto Comp I’ve made a change to my pedals Gone is the Ampeg and in its place is the MXR M87 sitting in front of the MXR M81 Pre Amp I particularly wanted the M81 as I didn’t need the larger variant with drive. I think the combination of the two will work well and give me a decent neutral sounding compressor and more EQ options running into the front end of the CTM100

This Trace Elliot ELF never ceases to amaze me!!!!
BassAdder60 replied to Mike Bungo's topic in Amps and Cabs
I can use my ELF with the band with my SVT212AV 4 ohm cab and it’s loud enough ( we play pretty loud ) You will need definitely a 4ohm load I think to really get the most from it Sounds great too -
I think Opto Comps by design have a slower response time but for my needs it works fine, perhaps my description of using it as a limiter was misleading. I found even running a mild compression setting tamed the large boomy notes that to me was compressing enough to protect my amp input and speakers The better limiter is the Keeley but for me I couldn’t justify £200 where the £90 Ampeg works well and adds a vintage vibe to it. The Ampeg does colour your tone very slightly but it works for me with the Ashdown amps

Ampeg Opto Comp Basic but warm sounding and the benefits of Opto compression which is better suited for my use with my valve amp

Had one of these and liked it back then but decided to not use any pedals for a while. Well I’ve now got one picked up locally and I think for the low cost they are very nice and do the job as more of a limiter Warm tone ( vintage ) and slight roll off of the highs but that’s not an issue for me
-
Ok all change …. The MXR didn’t arrive but locally I picked up a great alternative I think !!
-
That’s a relief ! It’s gets average reviews but I think it will be fine ( this will be my second MXR ) The first one I didn’t see the importance of compression or Limiters and returned it as it was costly. Since getting the CTM100 I appreciate the benefit of having a compressor. It also works well with the ABM600 if I recall

I have had a bad experience trying to find a decent compressor pedal more for the protection as a limiter but light compression too. Enter Keeley bassist pedal, very nice but had a peculiar noise when “ releasing” and a second one arrived and it did the same !!! So I ordered the MXR instead I’ve read people find it “ clinical sounding” but if it’s fairly neutral sounding and adjustable I can live with that. I like the controls on it allowing adjustable Attack and Release as well as Ratio and Threshold Fingers crossed I’m happy with or I’m going back to low cost Opto Compressors !!

I look at it this way … later when you feel like selling it the damage will put folk off and drop the value I would get it replaced ( if you like it generally) even if it takes some time to wait.

Mines riding at around 4mm and pole pieces are flush with case top
-
I agree and with the DM’s you have case height and pole adjustments too Just curious what folk found as a typical starting point. I think the idea is to use the poles for fine balancing tweeks etc Im finding the DM’s need to be a greater gap compared to a typical stock Alnico V pup as it’s such a hot pup

Can you guys tell me what your distance is from E string to top of pickup housing fretted at last fret on your Dimarzio PBass pups ? I know Fender stock is around 2.5 to 3mm but my Dimarzios are definitely lower ( greater string gap )
-
I’ve just raised them up a bit since I took that picture as I think I went a bit too far lowering which lost some of the bottom end !!
-
Black pickguard screws added to match the Dimarzio pups

The itch has been scratched !! I like the PBass and it’s simplicity They are nice to play and …. Thanks to Dimarzio they now growl very nicely with mids a plenty I don’t think changing my bass would of resulted in a better outcome Thank you for the interesting suggestions though, it’s appreciated -
Nice looking bass John 👍

I can get this tone on my PBass especially if using a Dimarzio pup and playing a pick. -

I always think Ashdown rate their amps well so at 300w it would be fine with a band I can use my TE Elf ( 200w) with the band ( normally use ABM600 or CTM100 and 200w is ample The cabs help
