They work well, no noticeable loss of tone and a good in the bag backup if you or the guitarist needs it

Ashdown are also I believe more pro A/B amps that can be easily repaired throughout its life, something they still stand by today. Class D for them is in some cases a disposable amp should it seriously go wrong IE power module dies etc However the other big brands are heading down that Class D road for very good reasons and that is the public want light weight gear now. We are slightly off topic but the question about modding an ABM600 to 2.67 ohms was purely out of interest if possible, it’s not. Mesa, Genzler, GK, Aguilar and more are offering amps to 2ohms or 2.67 ohms which today is fantastic for mixing 8 and 4 ohm cabs or running more combinations. The ABM600 is a superb amp and will remain with me for now sitting on my 4ohm Ampeg SVT212AV 600w cab.

Well … spent more time on it and into my amp it’s bloody amazing and brings an added dimension to the sound. The SGT sound is the best I’ve heard for warm drive while retaining the low end. The choice of SVT or B15 is very good, SVT is a bit more gnarly and the B15 rounded and warm. A thing I discovered ( doesn’t affect me as this is the only pedal I will use ) that if you go into a TC Polytune tuner and link to the pwr input of the SGT you can hear a very quiet “ digital whine” Connected direct its silent I also at the start was confusing the SGT drive knob and the SGT level knob !! It sounded good but the correct use it was amazing. I ran my amp flat and used the SGT for EQ which nearly flat sounds good. The mid position Ultra Low and Ultra High on were used and sounded perfect. Highly recommended

The main cab is the Ampeg SVT212AV 4 ohm cab which when I got the ToneHammer 700 I decided to buy the matching SVT112AV 8 cab which together matches the 2.67 ohm rating the TH700 can run at. Amazing rig in so many ways. The Ashdown hasn’t been out of the house since so I was at the point of either selling it, using it with the SVT212AV cab only ( definitely good enough ) or discovering if Ashdown could mod it ( not possible) So that’s where I’m at and I might just use it on its own with my single SVT212AV cab and alternate between that setup depending on gig etc

Mine arrived today, complete with power supply in the box. Quick test in front of my TH700 amp and it’s nice that it doesn’t tone suck when off, good .. Preamp on and it sounds very nice and compressor works well enough to use ( a bit like the comp on PF amps ) Ultra low and Ultra high add a nice EQ change and the SGT is very very nice in both SVT or B15 mode. I think they have done a good job with this pedal and first impressions are it’s better sounding than the SCR-DI Top price but I think it’s worth it, you could gig with this straight into the PA or use it like me in front of amp for extended EQ and compressor duties with drive

Definitely loud enough with the 212 cab so it may be used with just one cab

So it’s confirmed it’s not possible to mod and deemed a bad idea by Ashdown. Need to think about the ABM600’s future and maybe use it with my single 212 cab ( 4 ohms ) only or sell it ?? I have as said the Aguilar TH700 which is designed to run continuously at 2.67ohms so this was an idea that saved the ABM600 collecting dust !!

Liking these picks from Fender Nice tone and grip / size -
I had the older SCR-DI pedal which was nice although the scrambler drive wasn’t great. Having recently tried an EQ pedal and compressor ( very mild setting ) in front of my TH700 I thought this would take their place. In fact three pedals as I would take my Spark Booster off too and just use the SGT and tuner pedal and run it into the TH700 input for extra tone and sounds ( rock )

Playing songs with a pick and fingers in the same set

I found a method that mostly worked … set your finger style tone on amp with bass tone fully open and get a good sound. Then when switching to a pick back off the tone slightly on the bass to remove a bit of Uber bright sound. Having 1mm upwards picks helps with the switch in methods I find I can play songs in the set 80% with a pick and on some less rocky slow or dance ballads etc I can play using fingers over a clean sounding guitar in the band -
I’ve been looking at the Magellan 800 and I’m tempted to add it to my collection based on reviews and 2.67ohms of course

I already have the cabs SVT212AV ( 4ohms ) and SVT 112AV ( 8 ohms ) Note the TH700 amp I now use runs down to 2.67 ohms as standard. Bonus if I could get the ABM600 to do the same

My main rig now is a 212 4ohm cab and 112 8 ohm cab which I use with the Tonehammer 700 ( superb sound ) I either mod the Ashdown for backup duty or sell it and buy a different amp. I know the obvious ie disconnect one cab and use just the 212 but that’s not what I’m trying to do. The Ampeg cabs all have the same 12” speakers and using it as a 2.67 ohm rig shares the power across three speakers and it’s an awesome sound and nice and tall too. I’ve sold all my Ashdown gear except the ABM600 head which was next to go but thought if it could be modded at Ashdown HQ I would keep it and use it for some gigs and alternate between the TH700

Anyone ever had their ABM600 modified to run at 2.67ohms instead of 4 ohms ? Perhaps a question for Dave @ Ashdown?

So … Jazz Bass used at last nights gig and interesting discovery… it sounds so much more prominent in the band mix. It took me by surprise as using my PBass it would sit low in the mix but the Jazz seems to have a mid / high mid presence and deep lows My PBass always has lots of low mids that are hard to EQ for clarity sometimes. Still love my PBass but happy I have both as it was a pleasant discovery
