  1. Without a doubt the RM500 Forget the PF series nothing but trouble in the main. Or TE Elf fantastic little and loud amp
  2. If the same cab stacked then generally more volume and the added height means you hear more too
  3. Hire a car as might not cost as much as an expensive Spock Coffin !
  4. Just swopped the stock Pups from the Player Series and added the Dimarzio PBass pickup These are a bargain at present and for anyone liking rock these Pups work well More mids and growl ( fairly hot pups ) and for finger playing they are an improvement I feel
  5. Just dropped these into my Player Series £66.00 from PMT !! For rock they sound great fingerstyle as a little more mids and growl tone
  6. Pass on both and get the TE Elf !! Amazing little 200w amp that will blow both of those away ! Loud and nice tone and low cost
  7. You just can’t beat all valve tone 👍
  8. Great amps .. sorry you are letting it go .. bargain for someone GLWTS
  9. I’m similar in that I don’t like pedals for tone if a good amp can do it For that reason I play a full valve amp and it growls and roars as required Pick playing will emphasise the growl more so than fingers ( something I have a love / hate regarding ) but as mentioned the TC Spark booster full size pedal gets it close and a good compression pedal may help too. Ive tried combinations of Pre amp pedals and drive pedals and they all sound harsh and fizzy ( artificial) which cranked for metal probably works but for rock and mostly classic rock it sounds wrong in my opinion Fresh roundwounds are a must and maybe even stainless may help Im about to pop a Dimarzio PBass pickup in my bass ( £60 at PMT ) as they are hot growly mid focused pickups And … even your speaker cabinet will help towards the growl reproduction Turn off horns and tweeters as they make it harsher and look at your amp EQ and add more mids perhaps You may not need any pedals !!
  10. I tried the Rumble 210 cab which was light and looked decent and sounded ok at lower volumes Where it struggled was when it was cranked it seemed less capable than the Pro Neo cabs and definitely not as able as the ABM ported cabs
  11. No No No Lozz don’t desert the Ashdown!!! Rumble vs RM or ABM no contest !!
  12. Thanks Dave sounds like my needs are similar In particular when playing loud rock I tend to pluck harder and of course I’m trying to protect the speakers With the CTM you can see this “ surge” on the output VU meter and I guess doing nothing is fine but I thought add a limiter now before I later wish I had !
  13. Probably sounds like the CTM range as they are KT88 driven albeit with passive EQ I wanted a neutral sounding comp / limiter and the Keeley appears to be good
  14. I found I had to replace my JJ ECC83 tube in mine ( not many weeks of owning ) and it made it whisper quiet If the noise is present without you playing and you have drive engaged it sounds like a noisy tube although a hum isn’t what you normally hear but I guess it could be the cause. If the hum goes away with drive off I’m sure it’s the tube If it’s new you could check with the store for a replacement.
  15. The V6 is a tube amp I believe ?
  16. I’ve just ordered one of these to use in front of my CTM100 valve head I’m aiming to use it as a limiter really but I like the fact it claims not to colour your sound at all
  17. Check out Polar on EBay as they often discount GK gear I purchased a Legacy 800 new for £500 approx where Andertons had them for £800+ * update I’ve looked and none for sale I found the Legacy a very mid forward modern sounding amp which I struggled to get a warm vintage tone for rock, in the end I went back to Ashdown
  18. Who runs pedals in front of their all valve amps ? which pedals do you use and why ?
  19. Hi fellow basschatters This was posted on Facebook in the Ashdown forum
  20. I think a Pre Amp be it on an active bass or floor pedal adds another possibility of EQ which can make some amps sound even better My CTM100 all valve head is a bass heavy amp but running a pedal into the front I can dial back bass add mids etc and push the valve front end even more. As I run my master volume fully open on the amp with the gain turned lower it gives so much flexibility going from valve clean to valve dirty by standing on a pedal
  21. I’ve just ordered the Spark Boost to put in front of my CTM100 Ive got the Mojo Mojo as well Gives the amp a little kick and allows for EQ tweaks etc
  22. This week I put my CTM100 up for sale, it was a very regrettable decision Over the weekend I’ve made the decision to keep it as it really is one of the best amps I’ve ever owned and for rock you just cannot improve on it I also purchased the ABM750 EVO V which is very nice, yet it still sounds mostly like the ABM600 to me maybe a tiny improvement but hard to tell. Ideally I would keep them all !! But that would be two amps sitting around not being played So CTM100 you are going nowhere
  23. The SVT are great cabs and you can add one more 112 if you need more power etc Nice rig
