Definitely more speakers / Cab instead of your current cabs I use a 100w valve amp into two ABM210H cabs and it’s a very full and loud result As mentioned the ABM Pro Neo cabs are nice too and light ( sealed cabs ) I’ve used both but I lean towards the heavier gear CTM100 and ported ABM cabs which work for me against 4x12 Marshall cabs !!! and heavy hitting drummers

I’ve used my ABM600 at an outside gig ( loudest I’ve ever run it and still only 12 o clock on the output ) Most venues mine is running around 9 o clock too through two ABM210H cabs

PBass with a pick and rock Definitely pull back the mids as suggested by Lozz etc ( he knows ) People will tell you that you need mids to be heard and they are right but often they are finger players and not even a PBass The PBass with a pick is mid overload !! Pull them down and you will hear that rock tone for sure. Not too much as you still need to cut through the band but enough to deepen and warm up the sound 👍

Yep that’s where I run mine and it sounds great

How does the EVO V compare ?

How’s the EVO V working out ?

I’m still loving the Tortex Triangles Blue 1mm Interestingly I found a pick and PBass a better match for my all tube amp Fingerstyle just didn’t cut it !

The LBT can be overcome by using the compressor less or more as this boosts the output level too as you increase it I tried the Terror MK2 and found it too dark sounding

Gallien Krueger EQ optimally flat voicing?
BassAdder60 replied to Sparky Mark's topic in Amps and Cabs
The bass control if I recall is 100hz and I found I couldn’t get a warm deep tone ( more like Ashdown / Trace ) and this made the mids appear more prominent. Very good modern amp and very loud -
Gallien Krueger EQ optimally flat voicing?
BassAdder60 replied to Sparky Mark's topic in Amps and Cabs
I had the GK Legacy 800 and found it a very mid focused amp. I had to dial back the mids a lot and took a lot of button pressing and tweaking to get “ my sound” Great amps but not vintage enough sounding for me , not warm sounding -
Tortex Blue Triangles are now my preferred pick. Great tone through my CTM100 using my PBass

2x10 Cab recommendations to match a 500w head
BassAdder60 replied to AinsleyWalker's topic in Amps and Cabs
Good choice -
I’ve used the LBT with a single Ashdown 115 cab and it was great, very loud. I’ve read that the 12” Orange cabs were a bit boxy sounding I think a good 115 or 210 cab would help and move on the OBC cab

Ashdown ABM210H cab would be my choice such as the ones I use Then if you do need to gig you are ready to go ( nearly ) The ABM210H isn’t very tall so would go under a desk -
I’m impressed by the volume I get with my CTM100 and ABM210H cabs 100w tube amp in a loud rock band without PA support and it does well

As a pick player I use Shape Out ( on ) which we all know pulls the mids and boosts the bass. Great for a pick and PBass .. but I cut the bass back slightly so not too boomy and cut 340hz as it’s a honky frequency but keep the main mids around 12 o clock. Add a touch of 1.3khz for sizzle and I’m good to go 👍

The compressor is the weakness of the amp I feel, it drops volume too much but apart from that it works. I never use it. The ABM head has some interesting design features such as input levels influenced by the EQ and the drive settings. I often have “ Red Needle” anxiety when digging in and playing loud !! I think Ashdown could remove the compressor and the Sub control and instead put an onboard tuner or two stage drive control ( footswitchable ) that would be a great amp even better

I too play a PBass and the treble control is subtle depending on cabs and strings etc ( I play with a pick ) I tend to use / boost the 1.3 KHz slider as my true treble boost The rotary treble is 7 KHz so without a tweeter I doubt you would hear a change or perhaps the hiss !

Most stores have limited stock today so it’s difficult to try / find a particular bass or amp in stock locally I always order on line and try and return if I don’t like or it’s faulty or marked etc Sadly this results in so many goods arriving that are no longer new as such and often marked in some way
-
I tend to pull back the 340hz slider especially if pick playing I find it’s a bit honky sounding with it

Yes after living in Ipswich for 30 + yrs I got to know it very well.

My old home town 👍

The new one I received ( in poor condition from the store ) had a noisy fan ( cable near it was catching blades ) and pre amp tube was noisy Apart from that it then cut out and was dead for a while before coming back on. I rejected it and decided against buying Orange

Well … rehearsal night and no pick, it was ok but … I picked up a pick tweaked my amp back to “pick” EQ settings and BAM .. a great sound .. I’m sticking with the pick It might be that the CTM100 head EQ sits more nicely with a pick than fingers ?? Maybe it’s a tube thing in relation to attack of the note etc ?? It just sounds better with the band and fits the PBass so well
