My Squier CV 70’s PBass is my favourite bass at the moment Ive modified it so only body / neck and tuners are original!
-
Welcome to the ABM club 👍
-
Ok I have the answer.. I already have the bass I like / need My modified CV70’s bass is a joy to play with the satisfaction I’ve upgraded it and made it even better. My Player Series bass which is equally a joy to play and sounds great is all I need. I think if I had a third bass I would struggle to know which one to gig !! Thanks for some great suggestions though !

After letting my Ray34 go I’m in the market for an additional bass I already have a PBass which I love the feel and sound. Have a Squier CV 70’s PBass too What should I go for ( rock mostly ) A third PBass or a Jazz perhaps ? Ideally £700 circa and stock

I agree Ashdown cabs are not in the same league as the ABM heads They do the job and seem robust to survive gigging. There has been so many variations of the Ashdown cabs it’s hard to know which is best They had the Klyston series ( heavy cabs ) the low cost Mag series, Mag series Deep Then the ABM series with rear ports and a few variations in handles etc ABM series today is front ported and is a decent working man’s cabinet who doesn’t mind the weight. The ABM Pro Neo cabs are smaller in width and sealed cabs and sound very nice but didn’t have the depth of sound compared to the front ported ABM Never tried the RM series but I’ve read they struggle at high power a bit

The ABM amps are difficult to improve on for a gigging musician They do the job very well

Rocked the ABM600 head this weekend running it with master volume at 12 o clock ( loudest I’ve had it ) playing another outside gig without PA support. For a change I used my Squier CV70’s PBass ( upgraded ) and it sounded really good. The two Ashdown ABM210H cabs doing a fine job

Used mine yesterday for a gig, superb During the break I unplugged both and put them back into amp and bass ready for second set. Very liberating being unattached to a cable
-
Ok folks Fender HiMass bridge fitted ( nice ) new mini Alpha pots fitted and new cap. New strings fitted and it’s sounding great with the Dimarzio pickup Pleased with it now and plays well too

Quick question about the Boss WL-20 wireless which I’ve recently purchased After use say 4hrs can you charge back up to full capacity or do you need to charge it from fully discharged ? I think the old Nicads had charging memory issues but I believe these are lithium batteries? Will it make any difference if I always charge it before a gig even if I haven’t used it for a week or two ??

No I don’t think so. I should of kept my RM800 as it may of been simpler matching the tone to my ABM600. Although with less EQ on the RM it was never quite the same The Legacy 800 is a great amp and has a distinct growl to its sound when pushed and it has basically a second channel ( drive ) which is foot switch operated and can be used as a minor volume lift or a drive tone ( very mild ) The ABM600 tube warmth and drive really makes it top dog I think and lots of EQ adjustments
-
Used at rehearsals ( loud ) and it sounds very good. Not far away from my ABM600 tone and is now the tone I need for my second amp Such a difference it makes using the contour switch and then boosting the low mids Unable to get that tone with only the Amp EQ rotary controls Good work GK Sounds amazing with a PBass

The stock PU in my player are very nice and does the job well I’ve put Dimarzio D122 in my Squier CV 70’s and they are very nice too, highly recommend them especially for rock

Used my new Boss WL-20 last night and I’m very impressed Strange thing I kept thinking / sensing I need to watch my lead under my feet only to see there was no lead !!! Years of playing with leads I guess ! Very liberating being able to move about more Sound was spot on
-
Were the electrics quiet on it ? Im modifying my CV70’s and it’s now a superb bass. As stock it was a buzz fest if you took your hands off the strings Better grounding and shielding and new PUPS has improved it no end.
-
My Player Series is whisper quiet and was from new. The CV was noisy with stock pickups and even more noticeable with the Dimarzio when fitted. Since the shielding job it’s now as quiet as my Player Series.

BassAdder60 replied to Triumph_Rock's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
This is so much the normal Without shipping you are at the mercy of the local collection market I’ve seen these go for £50 locally which is a reflection of the market They are worth £150 - £200 even for older models in good condition I keep all my boxes so come sale day I will offer courier shipping -
My Boss WL-20 just arrived and will be put through its paces tomorrow night Trying it at home so far I like it and the style of it ( far better than a strap pouch models in my opinion, was using Line 6 G30 ) Will be gigged this weekend 👍

My fairly new GK 800 head has been a challenge at times getting my ideal sound ( close to my ABM600) Although it’s my backup or smaller venue amp I still wanted to get a nicer tone from it and I came close to selling it but …., Ive learnt a very good tone feature that wasn’t obvious and not one I would normally choose at first. The Legend has a bass boost, contour and presence switch and on its own Contour is a bit like the ABM600 SHAPE smiley face pulled mids sound. I normally avoid this tone as without the mids it gets lost in the mix. However I’ve found a great sound where you run bass boost on and contour on but back off the bass control and boost the low mids and high mids. You cannot achieve the same tone just using the B, LM, HM, Treb controls ( trust me I tried ) The resulting sound is fuller, more depth yet still punchy and the mid honk sound has gone. It sounds perfect with my PBass and is the best I’ve got out of this amp so far.

After upgrading my pickups to the Dimarzio DP122 which are amazing pickups I decided the shielding buzz was the next thing to tackle. I purchased 20mm copper tape and lined the pickup cavity and the control plate cavity and it made a huge difference. I would like to change the tone pot and capacitor too It’s turned a good bass into a great bass Going to fit a HiMass bridge too as next job ( already fitted this bridge on my Player Series PBass )

Just ordered Boss WL-20 to use live with my PBass

I feel the Ray34 is an amazing bass to play, comfortable feel and balanced. Having said that I do love my PBass and I’m going to stick with that and sell on my nearly new Ray34 on here Tough decision and someone looking for a Ray34 will get a great bass at a reduced price.

Up for sale is my 3 month old Sterling Ray34 bass Played it at home mostly and two gigs since I purchased it new this year but I really prefer my Pbass Has the roasted maple neck and 3 band EQ Comes with Sterling padded gig bag New strings recently fitted EB 50-105 coated roundwounds which sound great on the Ray34 it’s in very good condition, virtually as new apart from light playing marks on the pickguard. Can be shipped in original box / packaging to U.K. address if buyer wishes to arrange Withdrawn from sale and looking at trades instead
