  1. I’ve been there and quit and sold all my gear. It wasn’t the answer The solution was finding the right people to play with in a band who become your buddies too. Im 62 and enjoy playing good old rock classics and new rock and the audience don’t seem to care about band age. We do have a younger super fit female singer that has an amazing voice and that helps a lot Take a short break and maybe find new people to gig with
  2. I loved my V4 but wasn’t loud enough for me in the band context. It was always running nearly flat out and overdriven of course so great for rock but less versatile for other genres in the band
  3. I have my GK Legend sitting on top of my ABM600 head ready to swop over if any issues. The GK is light so it sits on a rubber mat on the ABM600 so it doesn’t move. Feel so much happier having backup I use wireless but always put a guitar lead by my rig just in case
  4. I can play equally well pick or fingers There is a tone I love playing with a pick yet with the band ( in particular against the drums ) I have found the pick tone is without roundness and depth that fingers give you. I think I might be getting close and need to get my old finger tone out of my head so as to accept the pick tone and get on and use it live with the band.
  5. But I like the dynamics using a pick just miss the depth of tone
  6. Band context
  7. Still seeking the tone from pick playing on my PBass and I have a question ? I miss the fullness of tone that I get finger style so the question is with a pick should I just 1: dial back the tone control 2 : increase the bass on my amp I’m sure I’ve tried this but maybe not enough extra bass and backing off the tone control Why do I still seek pick playing, speed of playing and it just suits the rock style better
  8. Sterling Musicman Stingray Ray34 bass in black gloss Purchased new in May 2022 Very good condition and complete with Sterling gig bag Shipped within U.K. possible at buyers arrangement/ expense Possible trade for Fender Jazz or PBass in equal condition
  9. That’s disappointing and I bet Ashdown would of put that right I use wireless with my ABM600 and it’s excellent
  10. It came from here via eBay
  11. Main issue was finding hanging points etc etc The stand idea results in a solution for any venue 👍
  12. Hi .. yes it was a direct swop and works well. It’s the second one I purchased ( first one had brass saddles but came without pre slotted saddles ) The zinc / chrome was spot on out of the pack even the intonation was pre set and spot on. Great upgrade that looks classy and works better than the stock
  13. In the past we tied our band backdrop to the venue assuming tie points were available Ive now found a more practical solution using a photography screen stand It has two telescopic adjustable leg supports and a top pole ( backdrop is threaded on pole ) You can then raise up your backdrop easily to the desired height etc behind the drums. Modern and low cost solution as the stands / top bar cost £30 !
  14. My Squier CV 70’s PBass is my favourite bass at the moment Ive modified it so only body / neck and tuners are original!
  15. Welcome to the ABM club 👍
  16. Ok I have the answer.. I already have the bass I like / need My modified CV70’s bass is a joy to play with the satisfaction I’ve upgraded it and made it even better. My Player Series bass which is equally a joy to play and sounds great is all I need. I think if I had a third bass I would struggle to know which one to gig !! Thanks for some great suggestions though !
  17. After letting my Ray34 go I’m in the market for an additional bass I already have a PBass which I love the feel and sound. Have a Squier CV 70’s PBass too What should I go for ( rock mostly ) A third PBass or a Jazz perhaps ? Ideally £700 circa and stock
  18. I agree Ashdown cabs are not in the same league as the ABM heads They do the job and seem robust to survive gigging. There has been so many variations of the Ashdown cabs it’s hard to know which is best They had the Klyston series ( heavy cabs ) the low cost Mag series, Mag series Deep Then the ABM series with rear ports and a few variations in handles etc ABM series today is front ported and is a decent working man’s cabinet who doesn’t mind the weight. The ABM Pro Neo cabs are smaller in width and sealed cabs and sound very nice but didn’t have the depth of sound compared to the front ported ABM Never tried the RM series but I’ve read they struggle at high power a bit
  19. The ABM amps are difficult to improve on for a gigging musician They do the job very well
  20. Rocked the ABM600 head this weekend running it with master volume at 12 o clock ( loudest I’ve had it ) playing another outside gig without PA support. For a change I used my Squier CV70’s PBass ( upgraded ) and it sounded really good. The two Ashdown ABM210H cabs doing a fine job
  21. Used mine yesterday for a gig, superb During the break I unplugged both and put them back into amp and bass ready for second set. Very liberating being unattached to a cable
  22. Ok folks Fender HiMass bridge fitted ( nice ) new mini Alpha pots fitted and new cap. New strings fitted and it’s sounding great with the Dimarzio pickup Pleased with it now and plays well too
  23. Thanks 👍
