Were the electrics quiet on it ? Im modifying my CV70’s and it’s now a superb bass. As stock it was a buzz fest if you took your hands off the strings Better grounding and shielding and new PUPS has improved it no end.

My Player Series is whisper quiet and was from new. The CV was noisy with stock pickups and even more noticeable with the Dimarzio when fitted. Since the shielding job it’s now as quiet as my Player Series.

My Boss WL-20 just arrived and will be put through its paces tomorrow night Trying it at home so far I like it and the style of it ( far better than a strap pouch models in my opinion, was using Line 6 G30 ) Will be gigged this weekend 👍

My fairly new GK 800 head has been a challenge at times getting my ideal sound ( close to my ABM600) Although it’s my backup or smaller venue amp I still wanted to get a nicer tone from it and I came close to selling it but …., Ive learnt a very good tone feature that wasn’t obvious and not one I would normally choose at first. The Legend has a bass boost, contour and presence switch and on its own Contour is a bit like the ABM600 SHAPE smiley face pulled mids sound. I normally avoid this tone as without the mids it gets lost in the mix. However I’ve found a great sound where you run bass boost on and contour on but back off the bass control and boost the low mids and high mids. You cannot achieve the same tone just using the B, LM, HM, Treb controls ( trust me I tried ) The resulting sound is fuller, more depth yet still punchy and the mid honk sound has gone. It sounds perfect with my PBass and is the best I’ve got out of this amp so far.

After upgrading my pickups to the Dimarzio DP122 which are amazing pickups I decided the shielding buzz was the next thing to tackle. I purchased 20mm copper tape and lined the pickup cavity and the control plate cavity and it made a huge difference. I would like to change the tone pot and capacitor too It’s turned a good bass into a great bass Going to fit a HiMass bridge too as next job ( already fitted this bridge on my Player Series PBass )

I feel the Ray34 is an amazing bass to play, comfortable feel and balanced. Having said that I do love my PBass and I’m going to stick with that and sell on my nearly new Ray34 on here Tough decision and someone looking for a Ray34 will get a great bass at a reduced price.

I’ve come round to that way of thinking and I’m looking to sell my Ray34 or trade for a PBass

My Hercules stand arrived broken that I ordered and the store just said they will ship a new one. Great service and quickly reacted to the problem. Again hassle for me but it’s the new normal. In fairness a lot of damage happens in transit as we all know. Quality checks on goods before shipping doesn’t happen and I suspect returns don’t get checked either !

I have been known to use most of the big name stores for ordering guitars, amps, effects, etc etc from Andertons, PMT, and many others starting with G ! All of them have sent out damaged or B stock like goods sold as new goods. All of them handled the issues quickly and professionally but naturally hassle for me. I now accept online purchasing is a gamble ( mainly as many goods are returned so technically not “ new” anymore for the next customer. If I order a bass, an amp or cabinet I ask that it’s a factory boxed new stock and not a return and this has reduced the issues. I would say on average over the last four years 60% of the stuff I’ve ordered has arrived marked, damaged or faulty ! The joys of online shopping!!

Was that with a Jack socket on side of bass like Ray34 ?

How does the Boss WL20L perform with the Ray34 active bass ?

The Orange LBT is a great amp and so are the Ashdown RM series Avoid the Ampeg PF range as they I believe still suffer from shutdown issues The GK Legacy range is nice ( Polar sell on EBay at low prices )

Even my brand new ABM600 EVO IV which I recall was nearly £700 I had to swop the preamp tube as it was crackly. I popped a new JJ ECC83 and it’s perfect.

I had the RM800 EVO 2 and it was a fine amp Apparently ( mine never did from new ) if you have too much input gain the needle goes hard over to the right as expected but the light change to Red ! I could never make this happen even with everything maxed so I suspect mine didn’t work as designed They are very close to the ABM heads in tone and with the right speakers sound wonderful I found mine sounded fuller with ported cabs ( the standard compact series etc )
