Famous luthiers about headless, chambered and custom basses
lidl e replied to mario_buoninfante's topic in General Discussion
I have an old steinberger XP that i pull out from time to time. Sounds great, plays incredible, but i always end up playing two frets too high as my muscle memory keeps thinking there is a headstock so like on the E string, i think i'm playing G but i hit A -
Anywhere one could find musicman pickup rings?

Look at this lads, i sent my friend the dimensions and he output me an stl file which i then brought to the library and was able to 3D print a prototype for free to check for fit! If it wasnt red, it would be almost perfect! This isnt the bass i am making these for, just checking the fit on different MM pickups -
You all have convinced me. Flat EBS it is. Counting up what i need, i think it's not as many as i initially thought so i can spend a bit more.
-
Im glad i started this thread! I was running the M2 with too low of mah! Now im staring at my powersupply figuring out what will go where. Even doubling up the two ports i think l still have more than enough room.
-
Exactly. Now look at this, it is a switchable port 9/12/18 but says 450 mah underneath. The product page on thomann says Output 7 - 10: switchable 9/12/18 V DC @ max. 9 V @ 450 mA / 12 V @ 330 mA / 18 V @ 220 mA (individually isolated) So it looks like on those ports the mah goes down as the voltage is switched up. Youd thunk it would say that on the tin
-
Ok, i have the option of 9v at 450mah so i can use those. Its for the M2!
-
Here's a question. If i use a cable that combines two 9v outlets into one 18 and they are 250 mah each, does it double it to 500 mah as well as 18v?
-
Yeah, i think i'm alright on the power draw! None of my pedals exceeds the "port" they are plugged into. I do have one pedal rhat takes 18v 300 mah, but this only puts out 220mah in the 18v slot so ill have to use the adapter plugged in seperately. I went for the harley benton power supply. the pro 10AC pro as it had a USB port which i need to run a midi adapter. So flat cables, yeah? Those EBS do look good. is that the same EBS that has made those pedals? I assume it must be. I have an apparently incorrect idea that flat cable aren't as good. Strictly in my head i'd guess. I don't even think i've ever seen a comaprison.

Love it! But doesnt every new pedal deserve an NPD post?
-
About to order up all the cabling for my board. Velcro, ties, etc as well. Is there anything i shouldnt forget? Ive got the board, power supply, an expression pedal or two, and of course my pedals. i might get a few toppers for some smaller pedals as well. Flat cables or roundies? Will i regret getting all harley benton cables? I can spend about 6 quid per patch cable id say budget wise as i think im going to need about 30 of varying sizes. I want to get it all in one shot so i dont forget anything and have to pay to ship one or two bits i didnt think of. Cheers!
-
Yeah, that looks perfect, but as far as I can see the only difference between the LS2 or the switchblade pro is the expression pedal input which admittedly is an excellent useful feature, but is it worth the extra 200 quid?
-
Ive never seen anything like that!
-
a little bit? it's basically the same bass!
-
i have one as well! i defretted it years ago and dropped in Bart MM pickups and a bart harness when the original preamp died on me. it's the best fretless tone i've heard. i'm currently trying to source pickups rings for it. i just made a thread about that yesterday. i canibalised one of the barts for a project bass, but i like the malcolm young look

I was thinking that, but i am still unsure of hiw these things work! Do i have to send like cad drawings or some technical document to make sure its correct? Would they come out smooth? -
Bang bang! Somehow these lads hopped into my luggage on the way home from Bristol today. Cheers to the BC members who made this possible.
-
I would put it closer to the bridge in an MM position. I havd my frretless set up that way and it sounds perfect. I am using bartolini and a bart harness.

I found this fella on ebay https://www.ebay.com/itm/403951268855 I'd prefer screw in ones, but these look just about right -
I found one fella in the US who makes them custom, but are they not a thing?
-
i just saw that. it seems this is a viable idea since there seem to be dozens fo solutions for just what i'm looking for. i'm gonna check out how this is different than the switchblade
-
reading more about it, i think this is exactly what i need! . i'm trying to figure out if the series/parallel switch would help with the phase issue cheers.
-
How did you blend the signal? Did tou need 2 or did you use it like an effects loop?
-
See, now these are the details i dont really understand. Ive been playing a long time and using effects almost as long, but i still dont understand what this means. This isnt an electonic term, right? Does this refer to a micro delay between clean and dirty outputs that causes the phased effect? And what is a 180 switch?
-
oooh, something like this would be perfect, but it's pricey https://www.woundedpawaudio.ca/fx/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=14&zenid=k2kir0ohrlu6c12voj2phhbe50
