  1. I wouldn't trade my Washburn AB-35 for anything. I have a Washburn AB-34 which I may be selling at some unspecified point in the future, but the AB-35 is going nowhere. Mark
  2. I'm hearing the 'Chinese Democracy reject' comments a lot about this new track. I'm not overly familiar with that album of theirs, so I can't really say, but a lot of other people have the same opinion of the vibe of the song as you. After watching the video earlier, I just remember thinking that Duff was by far the one having the most fun. Mark
  3. Wow. What an absolutely wonderful looking bass. Mark
  4. I hope these new Status basses kick-start the secondhand market for the older Status basses. I'm still hopeful to get my hands on a T-bass fiver with that ergonomic tuning system. Mark
  5. I've never thought about this in the 'Arriving, reflecting and departing' steps, so the 'Arriving' and 'Departing' sections are still empty, but for the 'Reflecting' I want You'll Have Time by William Shatner. This is what I've wanted at my funeral since I first heard it. The wife is aware as are all my closest friends. A quick tip for those unfamiliar with it, if you just look up the lyrics you'll not get the full nuance of the track, so if you're going to look it up, go for the actual song and not just the words. Mark
  6. Fender Tony the Tiger? It may or may not be grrreat! Mark
  7. Is the shape of the lower horn slightly mirrored in the shape of the headstock? I kinda like that little design detail, plus I like the look of the lower horn as it is, so I'd personally try to leave that. But this is your build, and I'm following with interest. Mark
  8. After a flawlessly simple transaction with John (@lownote) I now own my very first fretless bass (a Harley Benton B550FL for the curious). Communication was excellent and postage was fast and bass arrived unscathed from ParcelForce shipping. Fantastic transaction all round. Mark
  9. You only have a passive Sandberg now. 😂 Too soon? Apologies, if I could've resisted I would've. All the best in getting it fixed. Mark
  10. Do people these days actually sit at gigs? Even when they were arena shows that I went to, I'd always make my way towards the stage and stand with the crowd there. £125 for a ticket to a concert is not something I'd be paying in the first place though. Mark
  11. Rotosound has a string tension comparison chart on its website. Mark
  12. I agree with this. I have images disabled by default in my email, so the previous plain text list of what was available was really nice, now not so much with being just image based. Mark
  13. This is great, I honestly thought I'd be revisiting this thread to a rash of 'don't be ridiculous' or 'stop being a n00b' type posts. At the moment this is just a thought experiment, but thanks to the responses here it's taken a half-step closer to my reality. I honestly only have a rudimentery idea of what I was looking to achieve, but at least I now know I can try to add a bit of meat to the bones of the idea. Thanks for this. I've just ben looking at the East/ACG filter and it looks to be what I was looking to do all in one place. Thanks for all replies so far. Mark
  14. I've been researching different types of pickup arrangements/configurations for a build project, and I found mention of a Warwick Pro M series bass that had dual pre-amps and it never really occurred to me that this was even an option until, well, now really. From what I gather, the Warwick Pro M had two single-coil pickups side-by-side in a Music Man style config., but each pickup had it's own pre-amp with bass/treble controls. I'm now thinking, for a dual pickup setup, of different tonal possibilities eg scooping the mids from one pickup whilst simultaneously boosting the bass and treble on the other. Is there any real downside to what I'm proposing here? Am I missing anything important that would be detrimental to this sort of setup? At the moment this is just a thought experiment, but it's one that could very easily become a reality if there's no real downside to it. I dunno, am I just mad thinking about this? 😅 Mark
  15. I don't know what it is about ABBA, but hearing pretty much anything by that band depresses me. And I don't mean that in the usual sense of when someone says something depresses them, it actually does trigger my depression, the same way alcohol used to, so I became t-total to avoid that happening. It's very unusual and as far as I'm aware this is the only band that effects me like this. Mark
  16. You absolutely should - IMO - try to resurrect the build. I don't expect it'll be an easy endeavour to remove the existing fretboard for a new one - it looks like it's a neck-through (or is it through-neck? What's the correct term? *shrug*) but if that's the extent of the issue then I personally think you should give it some thought and research and at least try to save it. There's a lot of work gone in to it already, just a little more can't hurt, can it? Mark
  17. It's a valid concern, but it'll just be the baseplate that gets the countersink treatment. Just making it flush with the body of the bass. And if it does cause issues I'll just round the rear edge of the cutout, or perhaps create a shallow ramp but hopefully it'll all be good. Mark
  18. My plan is to see if I can somehow countersink the baseplate to offset the extra height it adds to the string height. I'm not quite yet at this stage of the build, so I've yet to discover how feasible this plan is. Mark
  19. @ahpook and @kodiakblair thank you both very much for this exchange. Mark
  20. My username says it all. Welcome back to the club. Mark
  21. Rotosound 77 Jazz Bass flats are my absolute favourite strings. @Rollin Thunder If it's a 5-string set, I'm interested. Mark
  22. Sliding off the back of this (didja see what I did there?!?) Scott's Butter Lotion, for those necks that just don't play slippery enough. Mark
