Bassists seem to love going on about how open-minded they are to new ideas and techniques. Don't see much evidence in this thread.
I beg to differ. I think that bassists are generally the most close-minded bunch of musicians out there! Just pick any thread on slapping and see how much vitriol and negativity there is!

Generally they seem to get very good reviews at their price range. For a clever bloke, Trev Wilkinson was totally misguided in calling his guitars 'Vintage'. For one thing, they are not! But also, try doing a search for Vintage and you get a million other things, search for Sei (for example) and you just get what you want.
Thats just sinister
Good one! I'm constantly amazed to see people try to flog expensive gear with totally cr*p pictures. Pointless. -
Why do that? after all, it IS a squier! Decal - what an american word! Not sure the best way to do it - careful use of varnish remover on the whole front face having masked it off maybe.
-
I get totally put off by the squier name. Don't like any knock-off brands really. Having said that, if I tried one that was a good price and it was amazing I'd probably buy it!

I think that the headless thing is really just a case of whether you go for that look or not, as there are plenty of basses with no neck dive. I’ve had a couple of headless as I really liked the look of them at first, but I eventually realised that I prefer a trad look really which is why I’m sticking with a Jazz bass now. To me, a jazz or precision will always look right in any context, whereas a headless doesn’t in the same way. Status = great playability.

The site is great now! Love the red Sei Jazz V as well. -
I always liked the look of them. I nearly got a matching fretted/fretless pair from here many years ago.
-
I didn't know that they even did one!?!

My fender custom is immaculate and I do everything humanely possible to keep it like that. However, I love the 'relic' look and I wish it was like that really. I have a battered old strat and I love the way that I can throw it around, leave it out, have the kids knock it over etc. I'd much rather no be precious about stuff.
-
I'd totally go for one. Love the relic look and they play better than standard MIMs.
All this scheming to save a couple of hundred quid - just get it spent and start loving the bass
I take it you don't have a wife to factor into the equation?

Anyone have some recent back issues of Kerrang?
Golchen replied to bassoctopus's topic in General Discussion
I have the first few hundred somewhere in my loft. Every time I pick one up now I just think 'what a load of cr*p'. Heavy music went right down the pan as far as I'm concerned. Them were the days though - ACDC, Van Halen and NWoBHM! -
Nope!. They aren't idiots & have people who know about these things. You'd just end up getting it confiscated
Doh! Sounded like a good idea ....

Real sorry to hear about the circumstances. I always feel a bit melancholic when I see an instrument that used to get played a lot but falls silent when the owner passes away. I guess that all my stuff will go that way some day as Mrs G is a lot younger than me. The two PRSs and the Gibson would all have been right up my street though.
