1. PM'd (Jamiroquai Essential Bass Transcriptions Volume 1)
2. "It has been expertly refinished with a factory quality pro sunburst " I'm no expert on these things (to put it mildly!) but that finish just looks ..... wrong.
3. What's the exact model?
4. If you are going as a male groupie, which would you rather see after the show?
5. I'm a big fan of bass-centric music and bass virtuosos, although I only spend a fraction of my time listening specifically to them. Since I joined here (on the original forum) I've always been amazed at the narrow remit that bassists in general seem to find acceptable. As a multi-instrumentalist, I hang out occasionally on other forums for guitar, keyboards, drums and chapman stick, and no other set of musicians seems to have this curious attitude whereby they want to put-down virtuosos of their chosen instrument. I'm not criticising anyone here, it's just an observation. Funny lot, bass players.
6. I don't play live but I think of bass as plug n play really, I've never felt the need or desire for effects myself.
7. I love the shape of the guitars (I have a deluxe) but for me, I don't think that they got the bass shape right. It looks too ....... fat ..... to me! I'm sure that they play superbly though.
8. I bought a cheap Harley Benton fretless to try out a few years ago. No fret lines AND it has the dots inbetween where frets would be! talk about unplayable for a newbie!!!! Damn lazy cheapskate b*stardz. I 'lined' the fretboard myself, which has at least made it playable.
9. +1 on the great pix. What camera? I used to really dislike that sort of retro, but since I have gone all 'jazz bass' in the past year I can appreciate a bass like that. Couldn't be doing with all those switches myself though.
10. I remember seeing that in a guitar mag many years ago. Really weird, but quite fascinating at the same time. Really out on a limb design there! I couldn't see it as a main guitar, but as something to pull out on the right number if you are a big band - that would be cool!
11. Sounds very irritating. I can't see a long term future to be honest, he sounds way too self indulgent. So you're not the bass player then? What do you play?
12. Got a CD one for guitar and never got on with it. I run cheap software on my mac laptop now and 100% prefer it.
13. For me that stuff has been done to death now. It was funny a couple of years ago but it's now just a tired old joke.
14. I've never been a massive fan of Level 42's style of music generally, but I've always thought of Mark King as a totally amazing bass player. To be honest I've been a bit shocked and disappointed at the way that some people around here have totally got it in for him, and even drop down as low as insults on a personal level.
15.
Does anyone with a "new" road worn bass worry about chipping or scratching it?
That's a big plus! I have a knackered (relic'd) old strat that I leave out all the time with my 4 kids charging about, but as for my PRS and my Fender custom bass - no one is even allowed to see them in daylight! [Note: apologies for the guitar mentions - it won't happen again!]
16.
Is it only me that see's the irony here. Which basses have pretty much the poorest finish that wears through more readily than on other makes? So they make it a feature and charge more for it. Very clever Don't get me wrong I love my Fender, I'm not anti for the sake of it but really, we do get sucked into the hype don't we.
Totally disagree with that! It's not rocket science - people want them, so there's a market, and they are more expensive to produce. To put it another way - some people grow out of 'new, shiny, shiny, new' at about age 3, and go for something with more character
17. I’m a big fan of the relic look in general, and I’d take any Fender instrument that looks relic’d over a new one EVERY time. I have a brand spanking Fender custom V and the only thing I’d change about it is that I’d like it to look old and worn instead. On subject, I haven’t tried any roadworn instruments, but they seem to get extremely good reviews on playability, both bass and guitars.
18.
The only thing we know for certain about silica gel is DO NOT EAT. S.P.
Damn right, it was disgusting! I always chuck it. I just assumed that it was for long-term storage of stuff and not for cases that open and shut a lot.
19. Wow, a total peach of a bass. If I was rich I'd definitely have that!!!! Note: I'm not rich
20. Actually, changing strings/tuning is really easy if you know how. I've done it many times. Yeah, a pic would be useful!
21.
Bring back Sharon.
You must be joking!!!!! Cheryl iz my favourite babe!
22. That is a gorgeous looking Status! I've sold mine but I still really like them ....
23. Looks pretty good for the price.
24. Cool guitar! I wish it had 22 frets though. I have a MiJ Strat and it is superb, they made some great instruments over there.
25. Not in the same class as you lot, but this is me playing along to a Christian worship song. The guitarist in me gets a wee solo in!
