1. Everyone post their first 'rig' and how much you paid for it! Washburn XB120 Squier 15W practice amp (there was something going on at the time with Fender/Squier starter amps the Squier ones were literally identical with a Squier plate on and 1/3 cheaper!) Ritter Gig bag Venom Cable Some Dunlop picks (a .96, 1.3 and 1.5) £220 Still got the bass and bag somewhere! everything else is long gone!
2. As my dad was a bit of a guitar player my first bass set up was bought from low price bits not as a whole. Washburn XB120 Squier 15W practice amp (there was something going on at the time with Fender/Squier starter amps the Squier ones were litterally identical with a Squier plate on and 1/3 cheaper! Ritter Gig bag Venom Cable Some Dunlop picks I think he paid £220 or there abouts. The bass was actually very nice, im a bit ashamed of the fact I covered it in stickers and ruined it! If I have a kid one day who expresses an interest in playing I think thats the way I would buy stuff, make sure its decent enough quality. Anyone who is buying a starter guitar now days would be a plum of the highest caliber not to buy a Line 6 Spider 15 amp for example, Incredibly intuitive and simple to use plus a HUGE range of sounds ideal for a learner who is still finding out who he wants to be as a guitarist. EDIT - This deserves a new thread!
3.
Although, adding nearly £400 for a nitrous finish, dirty hardware, a bit of choice sanding and a few tea bags being thrown is a bit much.
This should be the last line to EVERY review of a pre-worn instrument!
4. Im officially loving this bass now! Just needs new strings, I have officially decided I do not need a low B having a High C seems way more useful!
5. Its working well although I miss having something so loud it pisses off the neighbours
6. Due to moving abroad, selling all my amps and not trusting Ryanair with any of my basses im now on this rig - no amp, no cable just a clip on tuner and the bass! I have obtained today a Danelectro mini battery powered amp which I will use as a headphone amp for now!
7. Its an off the shelf body shape! Quite a well know one although Im not sure because of the request whether he will make it look more shaped like the orignal than his usual shape which is ever so slightly different and it has 4 strings! As soon as I get 100% quote I will post the specs!
8.
You're going to have to spill the beans...
Unfortuantly not yet! I want my final quote and to have given the man some cash so I know its coming before I spill said beans! Plus im pretty sure a lot of BC'ers will not be that 'into' my design!
9. I believe both are going on friday, if it falls though I shall let you know
10. Same here used a Markbass Lm250 head only 250W into 810 bo5th 8ohm so both working efficiently and it was stupidly loud.
11. I don't get on with them personally but agree with neep that everyone else I know who uses them has no problems with them
12. yep as with everything guitar related, when you want reliable, giggable and decent sounding - Go to Boss Go Directly to Boss Do not pass boutique Do not spend £200.
13. left handers. Pure and simple!
14. I got an email back from him this morning too about a quote we are putting together at the moment. VERY excited!
15.
Again, if I had the transport and I lived closer, Id be quite interested in the cab, esp at that price. BUT....I have no way of getting it around Good luck with the sale!
Well its worth considering at most the shipping would be what? £60 and you would still be getting a bargin. I believe I have the original box still which would make it a fairly simple job. I believe Wayne saw the cab when he picked up the Ampeg I sold and could hopefully vouch for its condition
16. The head is being discussed with someone. I'm going to give it maybe 10 days then eBay it as a straight BIN 700 for the cab If anyone is thinking about it bear in mind it will be 50 cheaper buying it off me here!
17. Wasn't actually there for the sale but comms were great Pleasure to deal with
18. SOLD! Thanks wayne
19.
The 'cheap gear' side of endorsements is a sneaky ploy by many companies to sell more stuff. If they sell it to you at trade, they lose nothing by having loads and loads of endorsees. The manufacturer sells more of their gear at no financial disadvantage to themselves and the band get to plaster loads of manufacturer logos over their website, myspace, CD giving themselves extra kudos and the manufacturer even more free advertising. In fact, the cynical person in me might think that it encourages endorsees to invest in more gear or higher end gear which probably has a higher profit margin for the manufacturer (aren't there a number of current/former Warwick endorsees with Hellborg rigs?). The real value of an endorsement is the support from the manufacturer, either in the form of loan equipment when on tour or access to overseas distributors when touring so that if your rig/instrument does go bang you can gain access to a backup. This kind of arrangement is of great mutual benefit. The endorsee doesn't need to cart additional gear on tour and logistics is a huge part of the cost and there is far less likelihood that the endorsee will have resort to loan equipment from a different manufacturer.
I have to disagree with some of this, the promotion an artist recieves by being on a major companies website is a good thing. I strongly believe that promoters and such will go for an endorsed band over a non endorsed one a lot of the time, its almost like a gatekeeper. However what you said about support is completely true, this does worry me when people talk about endorsements from small companies with no european distribution or presence. If you are endorsed by a small UK luthier for instance and are on a month long tour round europe and your gear gets stolen how are you going to get loaners or replacements? At least with one of the big guns you know there will be a presence in the country that can help you out
20. Most companies you need to apply to, obviously if you are a megastar the big companies will try to get you to come to them. Most big companies have an endorsement part to the FAQ on their websites. Strange things affect endorsements. Bands you never really heard of but play 200 pub/small bar gigs a year can be endorsed by big companies. Its an exposure thing for them. Night after night people seeing you playing a... whatever bass looks good for a company even if its not on MTV
21. I was endorsed by Mum and Dad management ltd for many years. When ever I needed new strings they came for free. Broken cables were replaced within hours and I was never short of polishs and lemon oil. Once I even got a Fender 57' CIJ Precision from them TOTALLY FREE!!! But eventually I had to get a job and the endorsement just seemed to dry up. Every now and then a pair of socks with bass clefs on might show up around December but its not like the good old days
