1. That's a hell of a lot of bass for that kind of money...
2. Sims quoted me around 200 quid to do it on a Stingray.
3.
"I'm not questioning the aesthetics" "a rather ordinary looking instrument"
Wait..what?
4. Can't help but laugh at BRX questioning peoples aesthetic tastes in basses when he plays such outrageous shaped and attention grabbing instruments
5.
Yup no problem - quite often artists either upgrade or freshen up an old rig and we end up with the old gear back and knock them a bit off the new gear. The old gear then gets cleaned up and serviced and either sold to other artists or in that case to a store which we do every once in awhile if things build up
Makes sense, thanks. FWIW I rate Ashdown highly, they don't sound the best, they don't look the best but for the money? Nothing comes close to the reliability and volume one puts out. Not many gigs your average school age band couldn't handle with a MAG300 and 410 under it.
6. I just checked and it was actually last year, the stores facebook posts and gear lists are easily available online and name a selection of the artists Ashdown themselves named a few posts back. I'm not trying to be pedantic and perhaps they have changed policy it just struck me as I was actually looking at the cheap ex artist stuff when it was for sale as I needed a new cab so it stuck in my mind.
7.
Lots of interesting views here... But just to clarify a couple of points. If you see a player using an Ashdown rig then there is a 95% probability that they own the rig, we dont give any gear away free and we don't supply loan stock to festivals.
Hi Ashdown, Could I just ask you to clarify this point? You say you do not loan amps but a couple of years ago I remember a large UK store advertising a raft of discounted Ashdown stock as ex artist loan stock or words to that effect.
8.
You seem to state it as though we were all in complete agreement on the matter, which is of course nonsense.
Some people are just too invested in the matrix to come out
9. Oof that P lyte is lovely.
10. Just because you don't happen to be a fan of Fenders I don't see why you call it 'just a battered looking bass' The history within that wood regardless of the shape of the body is what makes it important.
11. Although we never actually went through with it when my old ska band was planning our tour we decided to take a couple hundred quid out of the band fund to get a box of breakables, strings, sticks, plectrums and a couple of drum heads together to keep in the van. Seemed like a good idea to pool the funds for it.
12. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Left-Handed-USA-Precision-P-Bass-1978-Great-Condition-/321431363776?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item4ad6cd60c0 What do our resident Fender experts think? LOL LOL LOL ITS BACKWARDS LOL LOL
13. Ashdown have hit that rare thing in the guitar market. Their product is 'decent' It's not the best sounding, lightest or cheapest but it is priced at a low area and sounds good enough.
14. As I understand it Bass Direct are not Warwick fans, may not be the best place for it.
15. Just make sure you get them in white... mmmmm
16. Hey! I'm first in line for a commission!
17. Get down to the marketplace on here and grab a second hand bargain!
18. Think that headstock from an old old AXL before they changed to that totally mad shape they use now.
19.
I think this looks great, and like that it's available in other colours. I wonder how it feels, and more importantly whether and how it contributes to tone?... If such a thing can play any part in cutting down (especially illegal) rosewood logging, then it's fine by me!
As we discussed in the Fender vs Squier thread the woods do nothing to the tone and hence it could be made of cardboard provided the pickups and electronics where good quality
20. I can already foresee the replies to this thread Personally as much as I don't really like the blue they are completely right, guitars need to move into new materials to preserve the dwindling wood stocks. It probably feels quite nice under the fingers.
21. There's a surprising amount of people who collect these old Soviet instruments (Sov-Crap?!) He might be pushing it at £200 but someone will buy it.
22. Oh Jon, why oh why do you have to make such wonderful things. My honest dream is to one day finally have the money to commission the build I spoke to Jon about a few years ago. The man is just a complete genius.
23. I really like these, I might need to have a chat with you at some point about doing a Squier Jazz for me.
24. Selling a bass that unique in a week might be a serious push unless you are willing to go VERY low on the price. Warwick second hand prices have fallen through the floor in the last few years, a Streamer Stage II that would be £4000 + new now would be lucky to make £1000 on the second hand market and would likely take a while to sell. The last Vampyre NT I can see that went on here was priced at £700 and it actually got traded not sold. The last LTD model (which was actually serial number 001) was up for £1500 for quite some time and again went in a trade not a sale. I would say if you need it gone this week you are going to need to look at under £700 to move it, if you want to sell it into a store you will probably be a bit under that even. Sad that the Warwicks have lost so much value.
