Yep I noticed this when they were first released. Looks really off.

To me sounds like a jazz with roundwounds, both pickups on, low action, heavy plucking, tone all the way up on the bass and then the treble all the way down on the amp, low mids boosted and a little natural overdrive.

I’ve been Jonesing for one of these for a while. Will get one when I win the lottery 😁

The difference in tone between the old and new ones is subtle and for some not a big deal. If you are looking for variety I would recommend getting a new HH Special, you can access a tone of sounds with them.

As others have said there’s no bad years for EBMM stingrays the quality has been top notch all the way through. And I would agree the 2 band eq ones are the most classic stingray sound. The new post 2018 “specials” are actually my favourites nowadays they sound a little less naturally scooped and have a warmer tone, and are lighter which is a big benefit.

Saw it on talkbass that there are some price drops on the old vintera range in the US. looks like some retailers are doing it here too, not quite as big a discount but not bad.

AI won’t be taking luthier’s jobs anytime soon 😃

I appreciate that, it’s a great deal, for a nice bass, I’m sure someone will snap it up. My Birthday has passed now anyway so it’s harder to justify the purchase ☹️

It’s very kind of you, but I’m honestly not sure when I could manage to fit it in at the moment.

I’ve got a very hectic life and childcare situation, I just can’t spare that sort of time for something hobby related sadly. I’d love to though, 6 hours to myself would be a real treat!
-
I probably should have done that. I kind of worry that work might not be alright with it.
-
Sorry, No I wasn’t referring to your post. Just some of the general comments about the genre.
-
Of course not everyone will like it, slagging off fusion is like shooting fishing in a barrel. It’s for sure not for everyone, it’s very challenging for the ear, but some strange people (like me) actually like it.
-
very wise. I’m still gassing for it. I looked up the drive, but it’s a 6hr round trip for me ☹️

I’m so sorry to hear this ended up like this. I was the original buyer. I had no idea about the size restrictions at the pick up point. I feel partly responsible but that courier sounds awful.

I’m loving it.

NBD...I knew what to expect but was still surprised!

This is the fender pickup packaging foam, same colour scheme. -

Nice bass. Is your mute cut from the foam in the packaging of fender pickups? I use that too. -
It’ll be a poly finish probably. I imagine a natural refinish will add a lot of resale value tbh.

Looks like an amazing bass but let down by the confederate flag, gives off bad vibes if you know what I mean.

This is plausible

That is amazing, one of the coolest stingrays I’ve seen! I would love to see the slap playing technique that scuffs the body that far from the strings though, it must be pretty wild.
