What is EMA? Am I the only who doesn't know? Or is it an English thing?
It is money you get which ranges from £10 to £30 depending on the income of the household you live in. If that household get's less than £30k a year you get EMA each week. The lower the household income, the higher the EMA each week. But since my parents still live together, I have to get off my backside and do work to earn my money while my classmates get money for sitting on their backsides. How fair is that? And they don't learn the value of money.
quite annoying, im 24 now, only been playing just over 2 years and there are 16 year olds with better knowledge and a HELL of a lot better then me. :'( Im happy with my gear for now for a noob, see my sig for my stuff. suppose I should start looking for a band, but my friends are either stupidly amazing and im nowhere neer thier level cause they have been giging for 10+ years, or my other mates "play guitar" and I ask them to play a D and they play an F# or something. Mehh, ill stick to being a bedroom bassist
You have better stuff than me! But since I gig a bit my basses wear there scars with pride. And +1 to EMA being dumb.

Bloody hell I got £280 for my B'day and put in my bank account! My stuff isn't great but it makes some nice sounds.

Ibanez EDB555 or Yamaha BB615 is what I'd recommend.
-
I'm guessing it got 4/5 stars?
-
You bought a head without playing it?!

I know this is predictable but SX?
-
Right. I've decided I'll be buying an SX has I've found a place where I can get 'em for £95 inc. p+p. I've wanted a P again for a long time and these 2 are the JD version of it. These are the two of which one I'll buy: Black with tort pickguard "aged" - Lake placid blue with tort pickguard - I think both these models are the SPB-62 model on Rondo's site, only in a different paint job.
Don't worry about it You pay Rondo forteh bass and shipping - about 100 quid.. Then it turns up about 5 or 6 days later Then the courier sends you a bill for about 45 quid that covers all the other bits
I was hoping to get a P in blue with maybe a tort pickguard - like this:
5 or so days later you get the customs bill through the post. USPS handles it.
See, this is the bit I'm worried about. Do you have to pay custom charges or do USPS pay it for you?
-
I'm interested in buying a P myself to mess around on (maybe gig). If you order from Rondo, do they ship to the UK? If so who does it and how much is it? And is there any tax/hidden costs? Do customs hold onto it? Cheers.

RESULT! The guy said he'll give me my money back and he'll pay for the postage costs to return the head.
-
Well it isn't the ABM EVO II 300 as I thought but the MAG 300H EVO II. So I've asked for a refund and if not I will be taking further action.
-
It's post 06 so it shouldn't have a problem...NOT! I am never buying Ashdown again. I gave 'em a chance and their chance is gone. I knew I should have bought the Peavey Tour 450 now.
Those were some of the early PRC ones, the newer ones (post 06) should be ok.
I bought mine in Jan. 2008 though...
-
Go for the ABM ! Of course I am not biased in any shape or form.
This is the thing - I bought the Superfly because it didn't sound like an Ashdown. The ABM sounds like a true Ashdown and that puts me off a bit; I'll have to test one out... And how do I know this Ashdown won't break? And anyone have experience of the MAG 600?
-
What other options did they give you ? I assume it'll be a MAG300..
MAG 300H, MAG 600H, Marshall MB450H or possibly ABM EVO 300. I will dispute the item.
Sounds like a silly question but which output jacks are you using, i have a friend who had one and didnt realise the speakon sockets were combined speakon/jack and was running out of the line out into his cab, this called all sorts of issues, since using right outputs hes been fine though
I am using the speakon connections. Machines - the guy on eBay said he couldn't refund me but said I could swap it for another Superfly or a different similar priced head...which are all Ashdown's!

I recently purchased a Ashdown Superfly bass head. As soon as I turned it on, the head starts emitting a high frequency pitch which is very noticeable, especially at low levels. I tried new leads, basses, speaker connecters and different ohm settings but the noise still remained. When the head is not plugged into anything and turned on it emits no noise, but as soon as its plugged into a cabinet the high pitched noise starts again. Any ideas?
-
Wouldn't the same effect be got out of driving 2 cabinets from a head - one cab being paper, the other aluminium.

In my experience, Shine basses have been great VFM. I first bought the 6 stringer (SB-56 I think) and that was fantastic for £150. Just the normal things on cheap basses; a few sharp frets, finish a little rough round the edges, needed a decent set-up but after getting it properly set-up and some new strings on, it was great. Only sold it because I wanted to try 6 strings and the neck was too wide for my likings. The second one I bought was the Stingray copy in a shop for £140. This time the shop had set it up properly and they chucked in some Super Slinkys for £5 - pretty good deal I thought. This was another good bass. Just as good, if not better than the OLP Stingrays and £100 cheaper. This is the 6'er I had: Shine SB-56

If the BDI21 has problems DI'ing and being too quiet, wouldn't adding a pre-amp booster pedal do the trick and increase the volume?
