  1. That is absolutely beautiful, looks and sound - I’m waiting for a Kingston version to come up 2nd hand, but I am a HUGE MTD fan, my main gigging bass is a Saratoga 5 and the only MTD I’d swap for is a Super - fantastic basses. Good luck with the sale 🤩
  2. Sire P5 or V5 second hand 4 or 5 string shouldn’t cost you more than £300, both passive and easily as good as a MIM Fender, or if you want to be even cheaper then a Harley Benton of some description is a good call, but I’d definitely stretch to the Sire (even the active V3/P7/V7’s all have an active/passive switch and work in passive mode anyway so any you could get a deal on would probably work and you could just not use the preamp)
  3. Is it a Herrick pickup in there or is it just a cream Herrick cover?
  4. Oh really!? Well thanks for ruining the kids Xmas..! 💸 Haha
  5. That’s a very useful comparison actually. Currently I have the Caveman BP1 Compact and it’s a beautiful clear tone with a nice bump in the lows, but I am definitely going to get a second preamp, either to run in the effects loop if the BP1 or just to use for other gigs where a bit more variety of tone is required. The Capo is top of my list (I’d have probably bought it instead of the Caveman had there not been a 5 week backlog when ordering) but if an SLO came available I think I’d be just as happy with it - if you ever decide you’ll let the SLO go pls do give me a message, I’d be very grateful! I don’t really use many effects otherwise apart from Compression, I definitely think it’s a road if I started down I’d end up obsessed with niche octave pedals from the 80’s or something else I couldn’t afford and probably isn’t really necessary 😂
  6. I always like the look of the SLO, I don’t need any gritty tones really but still like a bit of tube hair sometimes and I’ve always been impressed with what I’ve heard from it in sound demos etc, but then I kinda felt like I was missing the point with it a bit using it as an entirely clean preamp, I don’t mind dropping £500-600 on a great preamp/DI but not if I’m gonna be in a square peg/round hole situation with it. Once I’m a bit more flush I’ll probably still get one just to scratch the itch , that or a WR Goliath!
  7. That’s pretty immense 🤩 What music do you play with all that lot?
  8. These are quality, only sold mine to @jimbobothy so I could buy a Cali76, and I’m not yet convinced I made the right choice! That EQ knob makes a huge difference
  9. Looks like a Schecter and an L2000 have had a baby 😆 - I actually really like the look of this, it sounds great too from what I can find on YouTube. If it’s still here in 2-3’weeks you may we’ll hear from me man, I’m only down near Durham
  10. I play a Bartolini’d-up MTD Saratoga 5 and love it, I’ve been seriously interested in getting one of these, I’m waiting to see if one ever comes up second hand, cos they sound fantastic on the sound demos I’ve heard As for OP - the Sire M5 (or M7 - only upgrade on M7 is wood/finishes) is a really great option if you’re looking to keep it under £500 - there’s an M7 4 string on the marketplace now for £325 in fact. Pickups are decent, preamp has parametric mids, active passive switch as well as series/parallel/single coil options - a proper modern double $$. Low end lobster some good reviews and comparisons for this bass - worth a look, but as often the case with Sire - you won’t get better at the price point. Ibanez also do some pretty decent mid range double humbuckers including some that come with factory Nordstrands and decent preamps but the Sire M5/M7 is a corker
  11. That looks really nice - much better than the stock/website photos, I’m seriously thinking about getting one in five string next week

Sold my Ampeg SGT-DI to Stevie - super easy to deal with, absolutely spot on
  13. I watched a YouTube video the other day with the 1176 being used on bass - it didn’t sound anything special to my ears but I was listening on airpods rather than my studio headphones so I dunno if I missed the nuances, it certainly won’t be usurping my cali76 anytime soon but YMMV
  14. If it’s purely for recording, personally I prefer passive, then you can get a clean DI track and add any EQ tweaks needed after
  15. Ah well then that does make a bit of a difference to the equation. It also means you’re in the unique position of being able to do a side by side comparison - I think a video might be interesting demoing the two (even if only to me 😂)
  16. Well it’s definitely interesting! I suppose the proof of the pudding is how it sounds (or something like that) altho I think a pair of those Sims pickups with red/blue/green lights that do P/J/MM tones might be an easier way but I still think this Spear bass is pretty cool
  17. Well if you’re anywhere near the North East you’re welcome to come and have a go! lol 😆
  18. My Caveman Audio BP1 Compact arrived this week - and all I can say is WOW 🤩 All the words people use to describe it that do sound a little bit generic (like ‘it sounds so clear without being harsh’ and ‘it just makes you sound better’) make perfect sense once you’ve played through it. I actually don’t really know how best to describe it, it wasn’t until I’d practiced for a few hours that I really started to understand it - it’s not just a sound, it’s how it feels under your fingers, it almost changes the way you play the to a degree because it makes he dynamics & subtleties of your playing shine through. Combined with a bit of the Marcus Miller-esque sizzle from the SBP-2 and the well known benefits of the Cali76, I reckon I’m pretty satisfied with my board. I’m gonna get a HX Stomp (or similar - any suggestions for any alternative that’s good for bass, like the Hotone Ampero, Headrush gigboard etc, are very welcome) for Dep gigs which I do quite a lot of, but for now I think I’m done….. 🤞 🤪
  19. These are genuinely stinky poo hot basses - they run great in passive mode if you don’t agree with Active P basses and the tone control works in both modes, and it looks class. The necks are amazing too, I can’t think of anything close to this for under £400-500. I absolutely don’t need it all but I still want to buy it just cos I know how good they are 😂 If you’re on the fence about these basses - don’t be, they’re unbelievably good
  20. So V7 v V7 the only real difference is that the V7 is active then - the V5 quality is the same? I remember the passive switch/active bypass mode on my V7’s always sounded decent tbf I wouldn’t have expected a significant difference in slap sounds really, I rarely above the 9th or 10th fret when slapping tbh
  21. I might have these - I’m hopefully buying a Sire P5 in a Couple weeks & if I do I want cobalt flats on - I’ll keep you posted
  22. I’ve spent tonight looking at 5 string V5’s/V5R’s (24 fret and normal) and I really fancy one, but when it comes down to it, I don’t actually need the 24 frets and the normal V5’s are at least a ton cheaper - I’d prefer a 24 fret and I would use it when practicing but I don’t have much use for it bar the odd Jazz gig when I’m allowed off the leash haha. The pickup spacing on the V5’s is 70’s JB spacing whereas v3’s & v7’s is 60’s spacing (except the V7 Vintage range), so I think that helps give them that great Jazz tone. I’m definitely leaning towards something in the range now there’s some feedback on them, I’m just undecided what to go for - the 24 fret body has grown on me, especially in 5 string
  23. A pair of good quality jazz bass pickups that have come from an MTD Saratoga 5 (made in China version). Both pickups are exactly the same size, I measured them at 94mm wide, 23mm deep & 17mm high (see pics) MTD don’t put crappy electronics in their basses, even the non-US ones, these could make a great upgrade on stock pickups in cheaper basses or anyone building a 5 string jazz (why am I telling you what to do with pickups?! 🤣 I am sure you can work it out) I’m having a big clear out of stuff at the mo so just want them gone, and have priced them to sell, but I’m not sure what to charge, I feel £30 inc postage is pretty cheap for a good pair of 5 string Jazz pickups? Edit: I need to clear a load of things out so I’ve reduced them to £25, or I’ll happily swap for either - a strap (I wear my bass quite high, but need a Half decent strap), Strings or some half decent quality patch cables - nothing particularly high value but these are all things I will use and need to buy sometime Soon, but these pickups won’t be getting used so maybe swap my stuff lying about for yours?! 😝 Pics below👇🏼 including with the ruler - as I say neck & bridge are the same size Some clips of these pickups in action: Low End Lobster review with sound clips:
  24. Even tho I said it was ugly this has made me think about getting one. There’s a nice one one the marketplace now, I prefer a 5 but I still like a 4 too. How’s the passive tone control?
  25. SOLD Zoom B1 four multi fx/amp sim/cab sim/tuner/looper Almost brand new in box, I’ve barely used it at home. Has pretty much all the same amp & cab sims and effects as the new Zoom B6 and B2 Four - absolutely insane value for money Comes with instructions, USB lead to connect to computer, boxed - even has the polystyrene sleeve it came in! £40 includes postage
