These Orchid electronics DI’s are fantastic for the money - if you do some Googling you’ll find loads of good reviews, I’ve used their DI for various stuff over the years including recording and it’s up there with Radial JDI etc Anyway they do a Micro DI, here which could work maybe? https://www.showbitz.co.uk/product/orchid-electronics-micro-di/

Sorry for the blatant plug but I’ve decided to go a different route and I’ve gone for a Caveman BP1C, soo.. my Ampeg SGT-DI is up for sale in the Effects marketplace for about £100 less than I paid and still in as new condition, so if you’re on the fence but the price is prohibitively expensive I’ve done the decent thing and took the hit on it 😉 haha. It’s a great preamp clean and even better if you like the dirt section, but I don’t find I get any use out of the SGT circuit, which is its main USP

Caveman Audio BP1, a very, very, very short review...

Well I’ve taken the plunge and have a BC1 Compact coming tomorrow from Bass Direct - cannot wait! -

Sold Jim a compressor, great as always - said he wanted it, then promptly paid, always good craic talking to him via DM as well. 👍

I had a similar Eden head for ages in my younger days - I really liked it, especially the mid scoop sound the ‘Enhance’ use to give (although I eventually realised it also used to make get lost in the mix). I absolutely love the look of the Caveman Bass rack Mark King is using on tour at the mo - that’s got the lot TBF I do find with most amps I barely change the EQ, sometimes bump low mids or Cut treble slightly but that’s usually it. Not a single person had said that they need any extra EQ with the BP1 tho (and I have active EQ on my main gigging bass anyway) - I’m very close to ordering one 😆 It’s this or the Jad Freer Capo, but the month plus wait for the Capo (and all the Good feedback!) is pushing me to the BP1. I will likely get the compact version, just a financial decision but it still sounds great on all the demos I’ve heard

Long shot but I don’t suppose anyone has one of these they’re willing to sell? 🤞 Not looking to lowball anyone, just I have a busy few weeks ahead gig-wise and could do without the 4-5 week wait to get one. Cheers
-
You should have 14 days to send it back if you ordered it online, you might have to foot the bill to post it though - may as well play it for a day before you do tho and see what it’s like

Really good little compressor for a very good price here - I’m just having to have a clear out to get some new bits in Lusithand Alma Comp, it’s the Mk1 (I think), run at 9v or 18v for extra headroom (normal pedalboard power supply is fine). Clean dial for parallel compression and EQZ dial with mids switch to either darken or brighten the tone (best way I can describe it). Awesome little comp, and I’ll end up buying one again when I have more cash but needs must £100 including postage - it’s not boxed but it’ll be safely packaged

Now Sold 👍 Reduced - £280 inc post (or £285 with special delivery) Best part of £100 off a new one & there’s absolutely no wear/damage etc - barely been used at all. Cheap as bloody chips 🍟 😊 Ampeg SGT-DI preamp/DI/cab sim/overdrive - just over a fortnight old, as new condition apart from 2 strips of Velcro on the bottom which are very easily removed Includes power supply, original box & manuals etc - awesome pedal but I need something else and I’m not flush enough to keep it to use occasionally (comes with a 3 year warranty from Guitar Guitar) Trades - I’d take a Cali76CB in PX

Keeping this now so withdrawn from sale Sadowsky SBP-2 preamp pedal, bought less than 6 weeks ago from Thomann for a passive Jazz I changed my mind about buying. Used it for less than an hour at home, boxed with instruction booklet - no marks or anything on it £60 inc. postage or collect from DH2 County Durham for £55 Cheers 👍

Would you be alright running another preamp like, say a Capo or a Goliath if you wanted EQ options or a different flavour or is that using it wrong do you think? I suppose in that example it’d be almost used like a traditional DI, I’m wondering if it’s something you’d think unnecessary as the BP1 preamp is enough - hope that makes sense!

Caveman Audio BP1, a very, very, very short review...
Paddy777 replied to bassmayhem's topic in Amps and Cabs
I am seriously looking the BP1 compact version of this, I was actually thinking of running another tone shaping preamp like the Goliath light in the effects loop along with the compressor - would that be overkill/unnecessary do you think? I’m not sure if I am looking at it wrong, or if it’s just the lack of EQ options scaring me 😆 -
Do you run all the back row through the BP1 effects loop?

That Mayones looks right, the pickguard is in proportion and the horns match, I think the Pickguard shape on the Sire 24 fret looks kinda squashed. Tbh if I needed a passive Jazz and a deal came up for one I’d still take it - if you could get a clear pickguard for it that make take some of the edge off it, the mismatched curve/spike of the 2 horns from the cutaways still irk me but it’ll no doubt play well. One thing I’ve found with all my Sire’s is that the tone control is weak, it’s basically the same sound all the way to 20% and then it suddenly changes to extreme treble roll off - works more like a switch than sweeping tone control. I know a new capacitor fixes it, but all my Sire’s (I’ve owned 4-5, only have 1 currently) have been active - is it the same on the passive instruments like the P5 & V5 or do they use different capacitors for these?
-
I don’t like it at all, looks like a photoshop gone wrong - I usually love the look of Sire’s but can’t live with this one unfortunately
-
Olympic (who make the Shift Line tube preamp) have a free IR download available, I really like their Hartke 4x10, it’s nice and clear and one of the very few IR’s I’ve tried that I felt added something to the sound. The EBS 4x10 in that pack isn’t too bad either

Just bought my second set of strings from @MungoBass in what will come to be known by future generations as “the great mungobass string sale of 2023” - paid by bank transfer both times and both times a brand new set of strings hit the doormat 2 days later at a snip of the retail price. Anyway great guy to deal with, 100% honest and worthwhile seller 👍

Fender Jazz bass JB-75 MIJ Reissue - *SOLD*
Paddy777 replied to briansbrew's topic in Basses For Sale
That’s a seriously good buy at that price, delivered with a hard case. I’ve lusted after these MIJ 75 reissues for a long time after playing a couple, they look and play fantastic - I pretty much only play 5’s these days and usually active, but I really want one of these. Unfortunately I don’t have the cash or any prospect of getting it in the next month. GLWTS, these are over a grand at places like Fender Fever- 1 reply

Works a treat for that tbf - never used a Vintage Microtubes but the Ampeg has all the features you could want. Don’t get all the nit picking wrong - it’s very very good, I guess it’s just for almost £400 you want it to play your bass for you too 😆 If you don’t mind spending the money it’ll be absolutely perfect for what you’ve mentioned IMO
-
The M5-24 you had was a real thing of beauty! I think I would use VTC a lot, it makes a big difference I think. The Sadowsky preamp sound is one of my favourite bass sounds, I’ve got the preamp pedal which I use for passive basses to run straight into, and I find myself using VTC a lot there, but the best sound is with no VTC Ope /30-40% Bass & 30% Treble which is the best slap tone ever on a Jazz, and no VTC is needed I suppose.
-
I’ve already half justified it to myself by saying I’ll stick it on a 4 string Sire V7 I’ve got haha, but yeh it’s a good point, it should still fetch half the price of a new VTC one
-
Well they haven’t really gone up much, when the first lot of MetroExpress basses came out they were around this price give or take, what I think these are now Is what everyone wanted and expected from the first lot. From what I can gather by speaking to someone I know well over the pond who has one they are very good, and when an entry level MIM Fender Jazz isn’t far off a grand then these look a decent bet. I really wish they came with VTC tho, as I’ll basically have to add £150 for a new preamp for the bass I would want. Still GAS is gonna GAS, and for all my previous talk of not being that bothered……. I realllyyyy want one! 😆 🤩

Bassdirect have 3 new ones in stock now, Fretless PJ 4 & 5 and a fretted jazz 5. £799/£879 (4/5) so a bit better than the dollar conversion price https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/?s=Sadowsky+MetroExpress+
