Chris I'm in Tunbridge Wells but come down to Canterbury every now and again for the belly dance band rehearsals. I think we may be playing in Canterbury Sunday 26th Sept, just waiting for confirmation. On the EUB i also bought a Stagg as a back up - that sounds even more like a precission. The Aria has a great feel & i think i have probably got the best sound that I can get, nowhere near perfect but very popular with the other guys & girls in the band. Sometimes i wonder if they just like the look of it! We should try to meet up at some point. A bit of a new venture - do you think there is a demand? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AL9r8aeaVpk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1l3xzovcf8

Chris The pick up is like the Fishman BP100 but an older version. The 2 contact parts come with a clip that fits over the top of the bridge & holds them in place, had a bit of difficulty holding the jack socket in place but managed in the end. Will take some pictures & post them. I found that the existing pick ups on the aria sounded a little too much like an ordinary electric bass. I remebered that i had the fishman lying around so thought i would give it a go. Plus point - no more batteries! I'm very happy with this but would really value any thoughts anyone on the site had on the tone. On the video it's being played through EBS gear. PS One of thedancers comes from Canterbury - which i believe is down your way, jeff

PS - Don't watch the dancers - listen to the bass, that's why this is here!

jcater replied to Belinda's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Belinda another Aria EUB player in the area, I'm in T Wells. Hope it's going ok. I recently stopped using the satandard pick up on the Aria. Attached an old fishman pick up to the bridge. Can't tell you how happy i am with it. Try this to hear it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AL9r8aeaVpk jeff -
I stopped using the standard pick up on my Aria. Added an old Fishman attached to the bridge & i'm really happy with it. If you want to hear it try these on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1l3xzovcf8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AL9r8aeaVpk jeff

Ok 2 gigs done with the rumour & it was a delight. Still got a bit of getting used to it to do but that's half the fun. What do you guys use to clean / polish them up after gigs? It's so stunning i feel i should put more effort in to keeping it looking that way. Any suggestions - within reason - gratefully received. Jeff

A camera tripod will do the job - Probably the easiest way as it will not require any adjustment Jeff

The Fender boys & Aria EUB, Stingray & acoustic Plus the new addition - GB Rumour Jeff

Hello everyone first time i've posted on this thread. The pictures of Tal Wilkenfeld Spitfire look stunning - and guess what......... last Saturday i picked up the rumour bass from Bernie with exactly the same quilted maple finish. It looks so good i'm almost afraid to touch it - first gig for it on Thursday in Penshurst so i'll just have to get over the nerves & go for it. Pictures to follow soon Jeff
I bought my Little Mark II about 8 months ago. I gigged it on Saturday and, intermittently, the sound would die for between 3-10 seconds. It was definitely the amp- I took the pedal board out of the equation, changed basses, etc. I spoke to Proel today and they basically said that it was my fault, as I wasn’t pairing it with Markbass cabs! I have it running through two EBS neo 112’s, both 8 ohm cabs. I’m still waiting for them to get back to me. So…is this a Markbass issue, or is it the Gallery’s fault for not making me aware that the LMII can’t be used with any non-MB cabs?
PS Vintage models can still make relly pleasant sounds with careful use of reverb or tremolo units. I recommend batteries not mains

Am i the only one on this site who has a real vintage 59 long scale model. Some modifications but much is still original. It makes me feel old when everyone is talking about 1980 & 90's models. I'm not sure they would be for me, think i'd better stay vintage.

Ok - here goes with an update having used the Aria in all of my bands, country, rhythm and blues & jazz over the last few weeks. The bass performs really well, the change of strings to helicore hybrids has definitely improved the tone. I still use the bass going through the EBS micro bass & EBS compressor & reverb units, (only a slight amount of reverb). The tone is clearly not that of a double bass but i do not view that as a bad thing, the Aria has a sound of it's own, mellower and fuller than any of my electrics, precision, jazz & stingray. I think that those of us using these should not be defensive about it "not being a double bass". The instrument stands on it's own merits. From the non musician audience the bass attracts a lot of attention as they are still quite rare to see in pubs, restaurants & functions. Most people who have spoken to me find the sound pleasing & the drummer from last nights gig commented that he felt there was more room in the songs, probably because i was conscious of not trying to play the same lines as i would have on the normal electrics. My only problems with the Aria at this time is that i find the end pin not really long enough so i knocked up a little wodden block stand - approx 2 inches high - to make the playing position more comfortable whilst not having to extend the pin to it's absoloute maximum. Also the volume control is quite noisy when being adjusted - does anyone else have experience of this & any solutions. I do believe that we will see more EUB's being used in the future and that they will not be substitutes for acoustic double basses, the Aria has managed to perform very well in a variety of stiles. I'm sure that one day i will want to buy a more upmarket EUB, (suggestions welcome), but in the meantime i'm happy with what i have. PS tried someone elses Stag the other night - don't think it matched the Aria for tone or overall feel but for the price excellent value Jeff
