You really want to feel smug… get one of the Squier 40th Anniversary Vintage P basses. Absolutely killer looks(Dakota Red), fit, finish, a neck that is amazing, and sounds fantastic! Plus super light. Mine is 3.12 kg
After 45 years of playing and having more basses than a guy should. I’ve come to the point where the P is the bass that best suits my style of play and I can get any tone I want. I constantly am fighting with my J basses to get anywhere near the tone I want. But, that’s me, play what you love and just enjoy. That’s the great thing about bass….there’s no wrong bass. 😃
Can I join? Here’s my small rig PF 800 with a PF 410 HLF AND PF 115 LF, at an end of summer gig on a private island last year. I got compliments on my tone from over 1km away😂
You have the old chipset in it. If you take it to a certified Ampeg repair shop they can get that fixed for you. I have a PF800 and have only had it shut down twice in the 4 years I’ve owned it, because of excessive heat(stage temp in excess of 50c).
I now use mine for smaller gigs with a PF 115LF. For bigger shows I use an SVT7 Pro with 2 PF115LF cabs.
I’ve been playing bass for 45 years. I have both P and J basses. For me it almost always a P bass that will I will go to first. I’ve never had and issue dialing in my sound with a P. With a single adjustment of the tone knob the sound palate changes considerably.
A J, I’m constantly fighting for the sound I want.
I was using my 1976 Fender Precision, my new Squire 40th Anniversary Precision through my smaller rig, Ampeg Portaflex into a Portaflex 410HLF cabinet. It was massive! 😉
Had a fantastic gig at Full Circle in Watertown last night. It’s a club I’ve wanted to play for ages, and the classic rock band I’m in got booked there. We had a fantastic crowd who danced from the 1 st song to the 2nd encore! The stage and acoustics were 1st class! To make it even better I received many compliments on my tone from other players! I’ll post pictures once our guitar player sends them out! Have a fantastic rest of your weekend!
Ezbass, glad I could bring back memories!
oh, I love British slang. When I was an exchange officer to the Canadian Army I hung out with many expats and found the best expressions! I also love plonker!
I always bring 2 with me and a shorty for a backup. Both are on stage and get swapped out between sets. The shorty stays in the case and is only used in the event of a disaster.
Greetings from the lovely Thousand Islands on the beautiful St. Lawrence river in upstate New York. I thought it’d be nice to join your august group and see how my cousins across the pond groove!
