  1. When I play badly our MD deploys a mixture of muttered instructions and dark sarcasm - he's usually at the piano, and I stand with bass just to his left, so we can hear each other while playing. How the rest of the band manage I have no idea. Maybe they're just following the bass line 😉
  2. I have one modestly priced bass that suits everything I do. I wouldn't want anything more expensive in case it got damaged/lost/stolen being gigged. But I wouldn't want a nice one just to keep at home as I'm not the best player and like to practice on the same bass I perform with. Sometimes hanging around here I wonder if I'm not a proper bass player!
  3. Thanks Mike!
  4. Likewise. I was disproportionately sad to learn the hotel closed in 2020 and still had that phone number Anyway, welcome to the forum!
  5. A new (to me) Albion Band album, including
  6. Some of my favourites are 10,000 Reasons, Waiting Here for You, and the Lord's Prayer set to Paul Simon's Sound of Silence.
  7. @Mike Bungo what brand is your pedal board? I'm looking for something at the moment...
  8. My old choice: and my 'new' choice:
  9. I did a whole week of tribute bands a few years back - Letz Zep, Think Floud, The ZZ Tops, Livewire, etc. at "Rhodes Rock". Personally I was just into the music, and loved how close to the original sound some of the bands got. How they looked wasn't important to me, though some were very good - e.g. Livewire had a Bon Scott for the first set, and a Brian Johnson for the second, which was kinda cool. The ZZ Tops beards looked real, which is a commitment over and beyond!
  10. Edit: John Taylor from Duran Duran, my teenage heart throb. Even in 2020ish my bass teacher asked why I play in the style I do and the simple answer is watching John Taylor on TV in the 80s and copying as best I could. I even had a white Aria bass 😍
  11. You own a bass guitar shop? 😉
  12. Likewise, with bad weather forecasts for tomorrow's gig I ordered a battery-powered busking amp from Anderton's to arrive yesterday. The courier unhelpfully confused Cardiff and Coventry parcel hubs. I contacted Anderton's who chased it for me and it was delivered at 8.30am today - no day spent wondering if it will arrive or not and in plenty of time for the gig - excellent service! Of course, the latest forecast is for sun all day, so we could have used a mains amp anyway!
  13. This is a me - a Squier sunburst jazz. It cost about £250 new five years ago, and has had new tuners, a fretless neck swap and a pro setup. It sounds good and I don't feel a need for a better instrument.

    Whizzzy

I sold some DMX connectors to Whizzzy. Smooth transaction, happy to recommend!
  15. I sold a Fishman pre-amp to ronibassman, a straightforward sale, happy to recommend him. (I did search for other feedback posts, couldn't find any)
  16. Bill Wither's "Lovely Day" - I can't believe I've not done it before when it's such a good bass line.
  17. That's exactly what I use for our PA. Bright orange cables that make it less likely we'll trip over.
  18. Or the P2, which has one of those fancy all-in-one XLR and jack sockets.
  19. We use a Jackery brand battery pack which is pure sine and it works fine with modern amps. But they do work out at about £1/Watt.
  20. I use a Behringer P2. I run my bass into a Boss TU-3 tuner pedal - the 'output' jack goes to my amp, the 'bypass' jack goes into the P2. I'm not sure what's going on inside but there's a strong enough signal to drive everything. I use it with ACS ambient IEMs which are something like ambient less 17dB.
  21. A tenor recorder that I bought in 1999-2000. I have only one bass guitar, a Squier/Fender hybrid which I bought in 2020.
  22. Sound advice! We have a service tonight for the licensing of our new priest. I'm sad to see the old one leave, but change might be good. My back's playing up (again) so bass guitar instead of upright for me (again).
  23. We used "Americana" as it seemed less niche, more accessible, trendier than Bluegrass, Country, etc. Planet Rock say "Americana" when they play Country songs. Rather than an attempt to subdivide it I guess we were using it as a catch all for a range of American music.
  24. A selection of DMX connectors. Used but in good condition: 2x 5 pin male connectors 2x 5 pin female connectors 1x 3-pin male to 5-pin female adapter 1x 5-pin make to 3-pin female adapter 1x 5-pin terminator 1x 3-pin teminator with bus activity LED Collect from Chepstow or I can post to the UK at cost.
