  1. Technically, it's NBAAMA (New Bass About A Month Ago), but it's my first ever bass, and my first jump into music making, so I'm still excited. I don't have the experience to make any sensible comparisons, but I'm very happy with it. I tried a few in the store and this one seemed best to me, at least partly because I liked the shape and colour. They set me up with a Fender Rumble 15 amp too, which also seems to do everything I want so far. In the short term, the plan is to play along with my 12yo as she learns the drums. When she forms a band with younger, cooler people, I'll re-evaluate.
  2. You have the lingo down! Make sure to stick below 30mph at all times so people know why you're there.
  3. You should do it. I originally came on a nine month contract that I was thinking of as a sort of working holiday, having lived in cities all my life. Still feels a bit like that now.
  4. Hello everyone. I'm originally from Birmingham (the UK one) but have been living in Vermont USA for the last 20-odd years. My 12yo started learning drums a few months ago, and I very recently got a bass to learn along with her. It's a blue Yamaha TRBX304 and I'm enjoying it very much. So far I'm mostly trying to play along with some simple songs on Songsterr using tabs and to remember some of the theory I learned a long time ago in childhood piano lessons. One hope I have here at a UK site is that I'll be able to find pointers to playing along to songs from my youth that aren't on Songsterr or showing up on cursory google searches. 90s indie/rock/metal, mostly. Nice to meet you all!
