Aria Sinsonido - £250 in Edinburgh
sandy_r replied to lemmywinks's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I guess it's the mics in the bridge - a weird conconction of acoustic sensor in a solid body (but somehow different to piezo) Yep, serendipity strikes in mysterious ways - my GAS was 200 miles from home (Dorset), visiting family on the East Coast -

Interesting, thanks for sharing Whilst I was in my pub band I upgraded from a fretless Yamaha RBX200 to a fretless BB4, thinking that would hit the spot Then I just happened to walk past a cash exchange type place which had a used fretted Sinsonido in the window... I never gigged with the Yamaha again! Great sound (after I fixed the onboard preamp), great gigging/practice weight After the demise of the pub band, some years later, I had the frets removed and have been able to crossover to acoustic-oriented gigs, using it as a lightweight EUB There must be something about it - surprised me! -

Did/do you have fretted or fretless? -
... ideal for one of those happy occasions that the Village Hall Committee ask your band to provide some 'jolly' background music for the Quiche Festival

...for some completely obscure reason, the words "Hotblack Desiato" come to mind... (I don't know what it does, I don't know how it sounds ...but... if i ever caught myself shelling out 399 Euros, whatever they are, for a Bass Effect, THIS might be the one - the only one - i'd get)

Cheapest "ergonomically safe" and "decent" EUB
sandy_r replied to Paolo85's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Cool work! As my first boss used to say: "an experiment is only a failure if you fail to learn anything from it!" I agree that it's not worth clipping those bass wings and recutting the controls just for an experiment - you'd want to be sure you were going down the right track first I mentioned CoG above (wrt getting the cymbal stand fixing): "into the body of the bass as near as possible to its centre of gravity" This relates to a fixed support into the bass, but there is another approach and that is to balance the bass on the top of a support - you could try another experiment with a different bass: sit down on a chair (to get the relative heights more aligned), stand the bass upright on a hard floor on its end strap button (maybe resting it on a small folded piece of material to protect floor & button). Balance the bass and let the top part of the neck rest lightly against your fretting hand - now check how the board action feels wrt supporting the bass vs pressing the strings This is how it would work when resting on a stand, unfixed but contained (ie. able to pivot) I've taken a screen shot from a video of a gig where I was using my electro-acoustic bass, unmodified, with this method (its a light bass) I have also used my Yamaha solid fretless, but as I mentioned above, I wouldn't recommend putting an unmodified solid bass on a stand due to the top-heavy nature of the whole setup As you say, the resulting sound is worth all the arrangememts (...can't see the stand in this photo!) -
Will this be suitable for the raffle? I have a venerable Intelligate XR2000, Class A, configurable 2 Channel Expander/Gate/Ducker that I used as a compressor for our band PA. Old but functional, I believe (apart from 1 function select LED, lower-right should be lit, to the left of the green power LED)

...101914 could be a date** in US format: 10/19/14 = Oct 19 2014 (The date the PCB designer was messing about with the silkscreen layout?) I seem to remember that people producing the Masters for pressing Vinyls used to 'sign' them with their Tag/Date (**They've been very specific in using 17 bits to encode something - it doesn't conform to the pattern: 8, 16, 32 bits of data bus width; 17 is a prime no., so it's not a stream of equal-width encoded characters or symbols, eg ASCII, Unicode, etc., so either its just random gobbledegook ...or, 17 bits was the minimum no. bits needed to contain the value of the number: 101914)

...yea, i heard these new-fangled 19" RAAC Reverb units are rubble rubbish by comparison

Thank you for kind words, Ingo, just some simple music but, as you say, with value due to shared experience. I think I read that you also have children, so I wish you and your family much enjoyment discovering music together in future years I hope you find this site interesting, helpful and fun, and that you make some good new friends here

hi Ingo The nearest recording I can find which suits the mood of 'Skeletons' or 'At Your Feet' is something which my son 'wrote' when he was getting interested in guitar as a teenager (it's ok BCers - he moved on to Bass later 😉) - he played it to me and asked me to provide some bass for the piece there and then - no pressure! here's a clip... dr_instrumental_clip.mp3

hah - that's a challenge for an old covers-playing dog! ...i'll see what 'bones' I can dig up 😉

Cheapest "ergonomically safe" and "decent" EUB
sandy_r replied to Paolo85's topic in EUB and Double Bass
Since the top section of the stand can be adjusted for angle from vertical, it looks likely that you can use the stand as-is, and maybe sink a suitably internal-thread tube (perpendicularly, or angled?) into the body of the bass as near as possible to its centre of gravity, obviously taking care to avoid conflict with neck/body/pickup fixing arrangements. Once the bass-to-stand connection is made, in prep for each playing, you should be able then to lock the bass to a comfortable angle Personally, from a stability PoV, I'd want to get a much lighter-bodied bass - an old beat up P bass with its 'wings' clipped (and controls re-positioned) might be ok -
Cheapest "ergonomically safe" and "decent" EUB
sandy_r replied to Paolo85's topic in EUB and Double Bass
nothing complicated, here - I removed the upper section of an old lightweight mic. stand, leaving the lower section unaltered on its base. The top of what remains is now the hollow plastic housing of the original compression nut/handle into which the upper section slid I locate the end strap button of the bass into this hollow and balance the bass upright, leaning the upper bout against me (so the bass is not fixed, it just rests in place, and leans lightly against my fretting hand and my upper body) I use this arrangement now with my Sinsonido, which is very light, but I've also used it with my hollow-body Hagstrom 'Viking' (fretted) bass, and even on a couple of occasions with my Yamaha BB4 fretless (not ideal on this lightweight mic. stand) I don't know that it warrants a photo of the stand, but happy to provide if it helps -
hi Ingo Another great track - a nice contrast with Skeletons: moody and full of suspense, lots of space to let the emotions work. Thanks for sharing!

Cheapest "ergonomically safe" and "decent" EUB
sandy_r replied to Paolo85's topic in EUB and Double Bass
I don't know if any of my experience might relate... I wanted to try for a low-cost EUB that was light and easy to play, so I had my Sinsonido converted to fretless, removed the top half of an old mike stand and use the upper bout of the guitar only, to rest it against me. The mike stand takes all the weight and requires almost no support of the guitar neck So it's a bit similar to the Stagg on a stand - but presumably a lot cheaper? -
Cool, I'll check this new track out, thanks (No disrespect to your rock track!) BTW 'Alien' melodies named because: Warwick Alien take it easy

hi Phil I think I've been able to identify the answers to your questions here: - where dd the broken 1k ohm resistior connect - where did the red battery lead connect Looking at photos of the same PCB used on several Hohner basses, including yours, I'vd circled the relevant connections in blue marker 1k resistor: Red battery wire (connects with + of largest electrolytic cap - confirm correct edge in relation to other wire colours along that side) : let me know if you need more detail. Good luck!
-
hi Mike could you check PMs please (...he says, hoping there's still crumble on offer!). Thanks
-
Hi Phil Are you still looking for info on this/fixed it/gone to Plan B?
-
...looks like it might have been inspired by the Hohner B2A - reasonably close body shape and control set (but obviously not the hardware, or active part) Several manufacturers had close takes on this but nothing identical it seems Oops - and greetings from Southern UK !

Greetings Ingo! I loved Skeletons - perfect to chill out at the end of a stressful day The drums can be fun and handy ...but don't stray too far from the bass - the world needs your 'Alien' melodies too ☺

Looks to me like that lid has been off a LOT of times - are the lid screws even still there? Plenty dust, looks like It hasn't been used in a long time - why? I wouldn't buy it without a long and loud demo - in my presence! In fact, if it was me looking for a TE amp, I think I would keep looking for one in better condition ....just my 2 cents...
