I'm still really tempted to get a VT bass and see if I prefer it to the Programmable Sansamp... It's not like I don't have 3 other drive pedals on the board to play with
Thanks for the tip, glad to find this one, onto a winner here! nice one
-
Mark Bass Compressore, set it and forget it, when its just on an not kicking in, it warms the sound up beautiful, im very happy with it an wouldn't be with out
-
We have a winner Tech 21 VT will be with me sometime Wednesday, got a booking on Saturday so plenty of time to play with it, will let you know how I get on, loved all the sound clips I herd, Thank you for your post all !
DHA VT1 http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page17.html
Do like the look of that one, though might take up a bit too much room on my board, but will keep it in mind,
TC MojoMojo. A fatter darker drive than the DHA but still natural sounding. And a lot cheaper.
Had a look at this one, not to sure, sounds a bit to toppy to me
Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with a Zoom B3 - it models a good number of drive / pre-amp pedals pretty accurately, for the price of one or two decent pedals. It also gives you the option of almost any effect you could ever need - I've found it very handy for my functions band, where quite often I'll want to use an effect for only one song.
Not a fan of multi effects, one pedal to do one job (cant get to technical for me) but thanks for the posts, will keep checking back and see what else there is out there think though the VT1 is about favourite at the moment, looks dam cool before you start !

Dug this thread out save starting a new one, like the Emma very much, find it very useable , (just posted similar to this in another thread I find with it that it does take a lot of the low end off, never a good thing with bass, so I add some chorus to it to beef it up a bit, anybody else have this problem an how to work around it advice would be much appreciated
-
The only Envelope filter on my board at the min is the "Emma - Discumbobulator" Its quite a mild filter and very usable but can take a lot of the low end off so needs mixing with something else, so I beef if up with the "MXR Chorus Deluxe" the flange setting is interesting an that's a whole different thing though, but the Emma plus some chorus is great sounding
-
Looking for a new drive pedal. The amps I run are signature clean sounding (see signature). I use various filters but the overdrive/fuzz/drive department is down to a soul, bog standard Boss ODB-3, never needed it much in the past but all at once there are a load of songs that require a bit more edge to them, so am currently using the boss just to take the clean edge off, its a good start ! so if you could recommend me a decent drive effect, in a sentence "I want tube like warmth that doesn't sound fake (like the Boss)" something with a pre amp tube in it would be nice, thanks in advance and thanks for reading Dan
The cross-over is just a bass boost, isn't it? Must read the instructions!
No, the cross over is meant to reduce the amount of effect on the low end, to stop the out-of-tune low notes when using lots of chorus. all that I have found it to do is just reduce the effect full stop, its quite a mild chorus any way so i leave it off
-
Thanks for the posts, since heard back from the shop and they say that it is a design feature so all is good, great pedal very impressed with it, I find the cross over to take away too much of the effect though, the flanger is fun too! but over all a great, very usable effect, on main board to stay

finally got my hands on this : Love it! just one question, the on led light dims on/off/on/off, fluctuates with what ever setting its on, has anybody else experienced this ?
-
Never got it with the idea/thought/intention that I might ever remotely resemble a DB sound, just as a live quick fix, we do a couple of acoustic numbers (That's entertainment, Crazy little thing called love)so just wanted to add a bit of "rattle" that's a good word for it hollow-rattle to the sound when the guitar(s) drop the drive. But yeah that's pretty much what I think it does, boosts the bass and highs, perhaps a bit too much for my needs, the bass is far to thupmy and creates a lot of hiss, but the hiss is the part of it that creates the hollow rattle sound. Will try it out at a few rehearsals at volume and see how it goes, but starting to get the feeling that to get a realistic sound out of it might take more time and effort fiddling with EQ than its worth for the amount of use it will get
-
Just having an ask to see if anybody has any experience with using an acoustic simulator on bass ? just recently brought a used Boss AC-2 to try out, not had chance to use it at a practice yet so only played with it at low volume but the overall result is its adding massive amounts of extra bass, adjusting it the other way to much just ads unwanted hiss. It seems to work better with my Jazz, roll off the bass and add lots of top and mid boost, haven't made too many major adjustments to amp setting from how I usualy have it Whats your experience ?

Just made the post a little simpler to read interested to what people think/do etc

I'm just looking for some advice. What are the advantages of doing this, putting my compressor through the effect loop rather than in through the front ?

How do most people power there compressore,? the supplied adapter seems to be the best option, Ive got another thread open asking abut the T-Rex Jcy Lucy, two ouputs on that will combine to give out 600ma 12v it is recommended tat the compressore needs a minimum of 700ma So. how do you power yours?
-
You'd likely blow the power supply unless it has output protection, in which case the protection would trip.
Yeah, think about just going with the original plan an getting the t-rex Jucy Lucy, but even that with the current doubler gives out 600m, still 100 short of the 700ma recommended for the compressore though. the only one I need to check on regarding it accepting 12v is the discumBOBulator, the rest should be fine with it. the chain goes : Boss TU2 Markbass - Octave Boss OBD3 Dod Envelope filter (says 10v on the back but will double check~) Emma Discumbobulator Cry baby 105Q Markbass Compressore Boss Chorus Simple is set up but works for me

Gone for the Harley Benton, was impressed with it out of the box, looked/works better than I thought, I just use it for 9v effects, there is 2x 12 outlets (haven't a clue with id ever use the 12AC for?) and the 12DV is rated at 500ma max, my only 12v pedal is the markbass compressore and that in the manual says it needs minimum of 700ma so use the adapter it came with, but of a shame as it would of been nice to run everything off the same brick. What likely sideffects would I get if I did run it on a lower load (500ma rather than 700ma) ?
-
Spent quite a bit of time with the compressore now and still getting to grips with it, the only thing I don't like about it is how bright the blue on led is ! wow is it bright!(small piece of black tape with pin hole in it calms it down) don't know if its a feature, its meant to be bright so you can see its getting enough juice ? I run it off the supplied adapter anyhow, needs something like minimum-700ma 12-dc, the Harley Benton power brich has a separate 12vdc on it but its max 500ma so just use that for the 9v's Been moving effects around (as you do) just putting together a board that can use for every situation im in at the miniute, I don't currently have any drive/fuzz/overdrive in the chain, just an Boss ODB3 that ive put nearly... at the end of the chain being used just as a clean boost. How I have the chain at present is : Tuner-Octaver-Envelope-envelope-WAW-Compressore-Boost-Chorus--->amp the odb has been the last to be moved (being used as a boost), still not 100% happy with its placement so any suggestions please ?
Looked at power station or micro station from Diago?
Not yet, Been looking at the T-Rex stuff, thought the JL would do it, but don't want to over do it ! Maybe original TRex, the blue one would be a better option. Had a Diago originaly a while back, an not to impressed with it (Daisy chain style) so went back to the Johnny-Shred-Freak copy of it (at 1/3 the £) and still using it to this day, running 7x effects with it via a Boss TU-2 but starting to out grow it so looking for alternatives
-
Thinking about getting this as power supply but... not sure if it will be too much for Boss style effects (especial Boss effects) that I have in my chain All thoughts welcome and suggestions of alternatives Thanks in advance
-
OK, I'm sold, gonna order it now!
-
Thanks for taking the time to write the reply's I have read the reviews and still in favour of the Markbass, as "Grand wizard" put it "gentle leveller/'warmer-up-er-er' which is what I'm after" Is the tube a serviceable item ?(i.e will it need replacing now and again, sounds simple enough to change 6x screws) Not long ago brought the Markbass Octaver, and that's a nice unit, tracks nicely but that's another thred/topic
-
After a comp, was (possibly still am) looking for, as the title says, but read a "Not the best" review in BGM (issue, Jan 2011) it gave it a 3/5 If you have one what do you think ? and what are the alternatives out there ?
