I always leave mine in the hard case when I'm not using it, stands are fine as someplace to put it down while your playing but leaving them on one permanently, anything could happen, it falls off the stand , hits the ground nut first an ..... well rest is history (possibly along with your bass to) Wall hangers are not that bad (still not for me though) hanging on a wall constantly exposed to the elements (sunshine, cold etc) At the end of the day it takes seconds to flip a couple of catches an open the lid on a case if you need it that quickly !! (like you put your seat belt on soon as you get in your car an pray you never need it etc etc )

Anyone got experience of bringing basses back from States/Canada?
danny-79 replied to Soloshchenko's topic in Bass Guitars
Its interesting because when I have gigged abroad I have just put it in teh outsized luggage area and picked it up along with my luggage and never had a single question asked at either end.
My thoughts exactly, I travel back an forth between the UK an USA quite frequently, sometimes taking a bass with me sometimes not, on the one occasion that i did buy a bass in America in bring it back to the UK it was just checked as part of my luggage an i picked it up the other end (never been lucky enough to be able to carry one on in its hard case as hand luggage an have a flight attendant find it a spot in the cabin but saying that Ive never been unfortunate enough to ever have the airline lose one either). But can imagine that its different if you buy one on-line/over the phone etc an have it posted to you, its a parcel shaped object that will have to pass customs like anything else therefore drawing attention to its self with the paperwork that will be with it saying exactly what it is, what its worth an ware its going etc etc ... But if you find yourself in a situation ware you are in another country in person, why not bring yourself a souvenir back ! -
Torn between a Fender miller bass or a MM Bongo
danny-79 replied to slaptone's topic in Bass Guitars
Good choice on the Bongo! Ive got a Bongo 5HH thats on loan to me at the minute an gotta say that i love it, apart from the four band EQ with what seems like endless possibility's of tones, with everything set flat the pick up blend alone is something else, your gonna love it ! Looking forward to pics an congrats on your score ! -

I brought my sunburst Stingray at the start of the year while out in Denver, i brought it used an all i had to pay at the airport was a $30 excess baggage charge. -
Nice one Fran !

I prefer seeing the woodgrain for the simple reason being a solid colour can hide a multitude of sins, not saying its bad wood under there just the naked ones hold there value longer an no two wood grains are the same .
at that price point but the SUB is hard to ignore.
Plus there starting to get quite sort after so are starting to hold there value, if you can find one in good condition hang on to it

Sorry for the slight hijack Dread but a used Stingray with as many strings as you want is the way forward
Everytime I see your gear list Danny-79 I think what a guy! Closely followed by buttercreme Stingray gas! You just need a pre EB Ray through your Genz rig and you will be sorted
Thanks man ! Find an amp sound you like an stick to it, first heard a GB amp about 6yrs ago in a shop, the guy was using it to demo a cheep bass to another customer (nice tactic) he sold the bass in question an later the amp to me !! Find a sound you like an stick to it. Got a Bongo 5HH on loan to me at the moment its killer sounding!! but a pre EB Ray is high on most EB players gas list, including mine (i see you have one) Peace!

Cool bass, cool story. With any quality instrument like that your just looking after it for the next owner so enjoy it while its yours !

Just wipe the strings an back of neck (oil finished neck) when finished playing it. And i always put in in its case when finished playing it. (it takes just as long to take it back out of the case as it does to fall off a stand an get broke!) Every now an again if feeling inspired (or uninspired to play) give a good clean with a guitar polish .
And to complete the set of answers from the MM lovers camp, Get a used Stingray!
Simple. End off

All i do to mine is give them a wipe with a soft cloth after Ive finished playing them, thats about all that you should need to do to them . Another trick that i found out by accident was........ i always keep old strings for that "you never no situation" that never happens ware you break one well i broke one, to cut a story short i put a complete set of old coated strings back on while i ordered a new set an was shocked that the time that they had spent in the packet, on the shelf had kind of rejuvenated them in some way ? ?? i was shocked that they sounded bright again, i thought that it was going to ware off pretty quickly but nope , month later an still usable Think what I'm going to do it try rotating them, before put a brand new set on put the old set back on an see how it goes !

Teleporter accident, two basses melded into one. The horror..
It's human nature to fear anything we can't understand, so I'd say "Kill it with fire"
That made me laugh but seriously you gotta have some pretty cool/strange sounds in your head to want to pick one of 'them' up -
i'm presuming you're talking about multi-fx as opposed to individual pedals..? start with a cheapo multi-fx (digitech/zoom etc..). learn what effects you like and can be part of your sound. then buy stompboxes and 'tweak' them to suit. you'll buy loads and have a great time trying them out. eventually you'll probably get fed up with the infinite possibilities.. ..and end up with a high end multi-fx. i recommend having a good read of the 'post your pedal-board' thread. ..you're embarking on a big journey, or maybe opening a can of worms..
Couldnt of put that any better lol so true an all good fun !!

Check this place out http://www.johnnyshredfreak.com/store/inde...;products_id=12 I brought one a while ago after being recommended on here, gotta say that its great, works a treat, i power my whole board of it with 2x daisy chains, never liked the idea of daisy chaining but it works just great with no hiss or hum Have a look around the site, theres a fitting for pretty much everything

Black works the best though with Sunburst , well i think so anyways
-
Get or make a clear P.G an put what ever you want under it, The sky's the limit , Fireworks !!! Even though i very quickly got bored with the idea an figured that a plain black worked best with Sunburst (or couldn't make my mind up so stuck with with the original) its defiantly fun messing about with it to see what works an what don't

Thanks all for responses so far, its still something that I'm looking into, thinking the way that I'm going to go is going to be the four band as a direct replacement for the three band that is already there ?, from what i can make out the only major difference being the stacked MID pot with high and low rather than just the one with an indented neutral point. Just need some suggestion on the powering, a single 9V seems to be the general way to go just want to no if anybody has gone the whole hog an powered there upgrade with the full 18V ? and even if there is any point in even doing so ?
