And apparently there had been a Musicman Stingray short scale unveiled. Can’t see them being under a grand though -
Short scales up to around £1000 - what's out there?

Have you seen the Nordstrand short scale bass ? Don’t know when they are up for sale but are being shown at NAMM now. Don’t know about price though but worth a look -
There seems to be a lot of short scale basses about at the present. It’s no something I know anything about (apart from my acoustic that’s 32). What sort of genre are they suited to and why the surge in popularity all of a sudden. ? educate me to there uses and advantages please and thank you

Thanks. I’ll check it out

Cheers I’ll take a look

Thanks. I did a random YouTube search earlier and found one on Reaper, not sure who it was but it’s got me started. So much more to learn but compared to yesterday’s feeling of complete failure today has been a good one. Used the YouTube vid to get me started then just started fiddling with it, favourite so far. i was using guitar just for convenience and started messing with effects. There didn’t seem to be many and the ones that are there are basic. (I know I’m getting well ahead of myself lol 😂)

But still, the design of the P bass, strat etc were made buy someone who didn’t play. And his design hasn’t been able to be beat. If you think about it everything (apart from Gibson, anything Fender looking) is a facelifted copy of so I’m certainly not saying that that isn’t a very special bass in the OP

I’ve kept that one (ableton) on my computer but removed and deleted the pro tools as it wouldn’t open properly and the amount of licenses with it, not worth the hassle. It’s designed for Mac so bound to be problems. Just watching YouTube vids. Lots of them. Plus band guitarist uses Reaper so will have a learning session with him at some point. Eager to learn I’m just not computer literate in any way. Very basic stuff, emails, forums, loading car iPod etc.

That’s definitely the way forward. Also been advised to download Reaper and try that one.

Ok so I’ve now got an interface. Focusrite 2i2 that came with a loads of software (apparently)(see photo for list) I’ve just spent the whole day trying to download it all so it’s on computer ready and not had much luck with it to be honest. The protools I’ve had to uninstall, it just kept asking me for license and redirecting me to other sites. The Ableton seems to look simpler (at least it opens) really not had a good day with it. Can anyone recommend me something simple. I have ZERO experience or knowledge in this field, all I want to be able to do is add parts to tracks that have been emailed to me by band. Add my part what ever that may be and send it back. Switched it off for today head scrambled 😂🤕😪🤪

I’ve never really understood or got the whole vintage guitar/bass thing. I mean I do get it, get it but how can you honestly say that with the technology we have today they were building better basses back in the 1950’s ? Antiques are not my thing either or fake antiques 😂😂

I use Elixirs, the coating does eventually start to peel after a while of using a pick but it does with fingers as well (if that’s the kind of coating you meant) ive got flats on my Jazz and acoustic and tend to use a pick a lot more than I normally would with the acoustic (Tortex Blue)

Big fan of the Cobalts. Had to use Chromes on my acoustic as can’t get Cobalts in a 32 medium scale but love them on my Jazz

International Shipping of Bass With Rosewood Fretboard

Ouch !!! 20% on a pedal is bad enough and kind of defeats the object of buying abroad it wasn’t purchased in this country the deal was done elsewhere robing b#%^*+^s -
Great read thank you. What is you opinion of slackening the strings off ? Some say do it some say don’t. My only experience of flying with a bass is when I brought my stingray back from America. It was in a standard MM hard case (that did receive a little knock on the corner, the corigated part collapsed like it’s designed to) but apart from that when I opened it up the other end, soon as it came off the belt, opened it all good. Cost me $25 in extra baggage and I just walked straight through with it. I was second hand so that might explain that. It’s also got a rosewood board. Doubt I’d get away like that again today

Fluffy stuff on the board seems to be the winner. Never really thought about it until now. I cable tie mine as well

I bet you are. I have friends in America so going out and bringing excess baggage back with my is not a problem (that’s how I got my other stingray, it cost me $25 as an extra bag and walked straight out the other end with it) that was 2009ish. That’s rosewood board. Wish I like maple boards -
First proper gig post school was 1996, a battle of the bands at a community hall in Shrewsbury. (My equipment at this point was a pointy headstock Aria ProII and I had a Marshall JCM900 combo guitar amp that I used to line out to a P.A 15incab 😂 got to the gig and couldn’t get the amp to power up, ended up being kindly loaned an amp. We came second from last. Guess somebody had left there girlfriend at home 😂😂😂😂 cross between s**t scared and loving every minute of it. Still chasing that buzz !

I backed out of buying a Musicman Bongo last year for similar reasons. It was a 2005 L.E in Buttercream (would of matched my stingray) all rosewood neck. I just got baffled by all the paperwork and even then there was no guarantee that I would get it imported. (I’ve head horror story’s where they have removed the fingerboard from guitars and sent everything else but!) -

My Orange Terror 1000watt. Since I swapped out the tubes for some low gain 5150’s it a completely different beast, a lot more manageable and no so in your face and for the very basic controls makes it easy to quickly dial in a nice tone. Second up, still pretty basic is the Genz-Bens Shuttle 600watt. This head never fails to sound good what ever it’s plugged into, my only regret is not getting the 900watt version (I’m actually after a second one if anyone knows of one going at a reasonable price pm me)

Hate might be a bit of a strong word but my least favourite bass I’ve ever had I still own. Fender Jazz D model. Then it comes time to play it and it’s not that bad actually 🤪

I’ve only got flats on one of my basses, Jazz with EB Cobalts, I’m not really a flatwound person but theses to me sound great, quite bright for a FW but nice and thumpy too Ive also got a set of Daddario Chromes waiting to go on my acoustic bass. But that’s another story
