I recall an interview with Dean Ween, whose advice to gents was to make sure your guitar is either above your erm... instrument... or below it, but never in front of it. Wise words.

@mike f all down to personal preference, but I'd be tempted to bring the weird... a ring modulator or something? And/or incorporate an expression pedal since you have space... You can then choose a delay (or another effect) which takes Exp input. I use a Memory Boy with Exp but there's plenty of other options.

And of course, the closest guess gets a free one... right? 😜 -

One more sleep... Must be pretty entertaining for @Quatschmacher to watch our speculation while he incubates the new egg! -

Would need a blend knob. -

Ooh... bitcrusher? -
I like the sound of this.

It's starting to sound like with sufficient planning we could equip a folk band!

Haha... touché

I'm sat in a queue with some thinking time... having just worked out that (based on mass alone), my skeleton could supply material for over 5000 bone nuts, I'm wondering what other resources I could be mined for. Is there a better, more musical use for bones? Perhaps I could be turned into a xylophone.

I think it may have been one of your posts which put me onto the Mosky rat family! I fancied the King Rat so I could try a few different rat flavours but I hadn't clocked the Black Rat. Looks like a great option if the Turbo mode sounds anything like the one on the King Rat. I'm looking forward to trying it out in a group setting over the next couple of weeks and will keep the clean blend in my back pocket. I'm mainly interested to see the expression on the guitarist's face when the Rat is unleashed 😱

SA Atlas looks like a great bit of kit for the connoisseur! I'm going to lower the tone now with a King Rat by Mosky... My first venture into the sewer and I'm liking it.

Mojo into Muff looks like a tasty combo! What gets sent through the loop? I'm bewildered by these big multi effect units.

Cool set up - looks like it covers a lot of bases. It's more or less where I'm heading with a specific fretless board I'm building in my mind. I hadn't considered reverb... how does it handle the octave down? I haven't looked at dimensions but the MXR Mini Iso brick is about the size of one of those yoghurt topped flapjacks you find in a petrol station... See my pedal board on the previous page for size reference against the Opto Comp. Could be worth a look if you eventually want to get the Spark on there.

That's the trouble... its got me looking at my Precision too. Though I'm generally happy with the tone I get from it I wonder what it could sound like 🧐

I was going to ask how many sleeps but I thought better of it.

Haha... it was well received by this particular dad whilst preparing his morning coffee!

Cool, that's pretty encouraging! Also, I hadn't come across the Switchblade Pro so thanks for pointing that out. The Great Eastern fx looks like a great unit, but quite spendy. Still, good to know what's out there and how people are solving this sort of challenge.

I've been playing with a few configurations of octave-> drive/fuzz -> envelope -> modulation to get some synth type sounds recently. Looking at some older BC threads I'm starting to wonder if building a line selector like a Boss LS2 or Joyo Orthros into the mix would help get a wider range of sounds. For example, I'm finding that it's tricky getting the envelope to behave with so much going on before it, and that a phaser at the end is barely perceptible as it seems to favour higher frequencies. Has anyone used a line switcher in this type of setup? Could it also be used to simultaneously solve the OC2 volume drop? From what I've gathered from reading around, one option might be to put octave in one loop and fuzz/envelope in another loop and blend them together. I may be way off in my thinking on this but would be great to hear from ye sonic wizards!

@Lozz196 I wasn't quite sure what to expect as I haven't played another bass with CS60s. I'd agree that they have transformed the bass into something much more than it was before!
-
Thanks! Its good to appreciate the old ones, even if they need some sprucing up from time to time. NPUD has a certain ring to it.
-
Does it count as NBD if a single change to a bass you've had for 25 years transforms the sound and makes you fall in love with it again?! I just swapped the pickups in my MIM fretless Jazz bass from stock to CS60s, and... Holy moly! Picture doesn't do justice to the colour. It's a lot "creamier" than the off-white it looks here.

I'll have to give this a go tomorrow! I'm still getting to grips with the range of sounds I can get out of my ABM but had been consistently doing the same as you describe, with the gain in the upper end of the dial. Will try backing it off a bit.

Thanks for flagging this as a possible issue @Doctor J. I offered up the new pickup cover this morning, paying special attention to the lugs based on your advice. The lugs appear to line up ok in this instance. I'm not sure if I've been lucky, but I just needed to remove a small amount of material (primarily paint and rough bits of wood) from the short edges of the routed pickup slot. For anyone interested in doing this in future, I removed the globs of paint and any rough wood with a small chisel. I then made incremental changes by flat scraping with a very sharp knife - similar to how one might use a cabinet scraper, but with a knife normally used for relief carving. I'm happy with the result overall. Just need to hook up the wiring and give it a whirl!
