I cant remember if youve already said - is the Taitycaster coming along?
definatly mate! is your shuker course bass coming?
-
have you thought about just having one of your new 4 stringers permenantly tuned to DADG? sorry, you may have already given a reason why not, but i must have missed it, and that seems the obvious thing to do to me.

its a nice idea, shame its so hideous (and this is coming from a soundgear player!)
I'm looking good for next weekend, save for a dire emergency I haven't got space in the car for my full arsenal, but I'll bring a few good toys along
rich, are you taking the bass in your avatar? it's a beaut!

the two sweet spots might overlap, but IMO the precision pickup sounds better if the EA pickup remains where it is, and the DG moves the other side of it, so its closer to the neck. if you're really looking for that musicman sweet spot with a P pickup, thats the way to go i'd say. oh, and Vibrating G String, nice OLP!
This can do the P sound, but not the signature MM because it the pickup is really close to the bridge. I stuck it there to get a nice tight mid sound which works well I think the typical MM position is almost right up against the P pickup. On your example, extending the jazz route towards the P position you should get pretty close.
i have a P/MM and like protium said, it does the Precision sound great, but the musicman pickup is too far back to get the real musicman sound, i also get a really tight mid sound which i really like. i never play with both pickups on though, so i can't comment on what it sounds like really, just that i personally prefer one pickup or another.
Or alternatively you just ignore everyone that wants to talk about anything other than bass, or off topic important discussions like which brand of baked beans are the best, or whether a meal at midday is lunch or dinner, then that would be best. Lets be honest, none of really like those skinny stringed guitards...
people were complaining that maybe non-bassists would join simply to sell guitars and stuff and to discuss non-bass subject, hence making it no longer basschat. your method helps against this how?
I just bought it! I think the idea of being lazy and having E and D works for me plus correct me if im wrong but playing 'in the box' i can do normally anywhere on the neck now on any string with DEADG with a low b I cant?!?
personally, i'd say if you just bought it, give it a few months, and try and use the B string wherever possible, so for instance one song i love the B string on is hit me with your rythm stick, if you play the first F in the song on fret 6 of the B string, theres hardly any moving up and down the fretboard necessary. i also hate the sound of anything below the D on the B string, but on the other hand it's useful for different, easier positions with songs you could play on a 4 string. get used to the BEADG tuning before you decide anything different IMO

perhaps if you made the other instruments forum invisible to non-members in the same way off topic is, that would stop the whole problem of alienating people?

i think feel good inc is a brilliant song, i love it. i've not heard another gorillaz song i like though.

pretty much every guitar forum i've been on has a bass guitar subforum somewhere, rarely gets used but its there for the odd occasion someone asks about bass. i can't see how a guitar subforum on a bass forum is any different. personally, i'm neither here nor there on the idea. i can see upsides and downsides, so i'm happy with whatever the powers that be decide.
I don't get Wallace and Gromit either.
me neither
Quite simply, no? Its a bloody Bass forum! Off topic is fine as its a BASS forum, other instrument talk is indeed off topic.
damn, i guess we ought to delete the "recording" and "for sale: other musically related stuff" forums whilst we're going by that then.

pretty much any fender style neck will work, provided its normal fender width. allparts do them, i know they're higly regarded.
top man thanks!!! are the little quips underneath the personal statement?
no, the bits underneath you can't get until you have a certain post count. i don't know how many you need though.

For sale subforum - shouldn't people have to put their location up?
You mean something like this? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=76324 I have been meaning to sort something out in the ways of the template. Probably add location onto the template as well, or put something in the delivery section.
thats exactly the sort of thing i'd use. you could put bullet points under each one on the template, to clarify what goes in that section, and to remind people to put things like location etc. into it. and nice bass by the way, loving the whole battered-up-stealth look. -

FWIW i think an optional template is a great idea. it wouldn't take too long for someone who knows what they're doing to make, then a moderator could sticky it in the for sale section, then we can choose to copy and paste it if we so desire. i think a suprising amount of people would use it, i know i would. -
So how do stacked humbuckers sound different to the two coils next to each other? I guess i never realised just how many stacked humbuckers there were out there, although admittedly i was aware of at least one mentioned (the seymour duncan hot stack) and just forgot about it.
-
i onl ever use it when recording, sometimes i'll do a distorted track and a clean track. even then, the distortion is very little, and is mixed quite low, but i just find it gives te recording something clean tracks can't. i never use it live though.

i'm just wondering why you never see humbucking pickups that fit into a jazz size pickup. i mean, you get pickups like these for strats - and dimarzio do these for precision - but i really can't find any similar, jazz shaped, pickups. i'm not looking to buy any, its just something i've always wondered about, because to me, it seems like a good idea. is there any reason why they don't do these? or do someone do them, and i've just missed them?

the change in name kind of makes sense, i mean, if you hadn't heard of it before, would you have really guessed "the gallery" is a bass shop? using the words bass merchant does seem a bit weird, but i guess thats just one of those things. they could have even done it to help against competition i guess, if you google the words "bass merchant" the gallery is now third.
