Its a question of fashion, and do you really give a toss what people think you should look like. What constitutes a 'Fully grown man' kiddo?
i take it this was aimed at me? i dont give a toss what other people think i should look like, and i sure hope they dont give a toss about what i think others should look like. just cos i dont like ponytails doesnt mean id expect anyone to cut theirs off, that would be stupid. like you said, its fashion. and life would be boring if we all looked the same. and i dunno, what does constitute a fully grown man? thats also a matter of opinion.
Of course you're allowed an opinion...Bill's a guitarist and men 40+ with ponytails are stupid......that's basically you're opinion. Now......this is what gets my ponytail wagging (although I don't have it any more) but still...look further into players, in this case "Sheehan" is nothing like a guitar player, his "bass playing" is the real thing ROCK BASS PLAYING!!! You darn kids
i know im allowed an opinion, i was joking because the person i quoted said he wasnt allowed an opinion because hes bald. but you got me all wrong. bills not a guitarist. i think hes a fantastic bass player, but he does use techniques more prominent in guitar. however, think this makes him, if anything, an even better bass player, because he's doing something not a lot of other bassists do, and he makes it work. and again, men 40+ with ponytails arent stupid. i got nothing against the men, i just dislike the ponytails. but its their hair, they can do what they like with it. if they like pponytails, its fine by me if they have a ponytail.

i think billy sheehans excellent, he's one of my favourite players. ok, he might be a bit of a guitarist technique wise, but he's still brilliant. i'd much rather listen to him playing fast than say victor wooten or marcus miller double thumbing fast (i realise they're very different music and can't be compared, but i wasn't trying to compare them, i was just saying i'd rather listen to billy sheehan)
There *is* something a bit sad about guys over 40 with a pony tail. Mind you, I'm as bald as a baldy thing so I'm not sure I'm allowed an opinion.
+1 i can't stand fully grown men with a pony tail, it always looks silly to me. no offence meant towards people with pony tails on here, i just don't like em. but then again, i'm 16 and already got a receeding hair line, so i suppose im not allowed an opinion either.

why not just play a righty upside down like hendrix did?
I've got a feeling they've got the '4' and the '3' the wrong way round...
could be, or they typed each number one number ot the right, so 43 rather than 32. after all, its called the model 32
I think that's the Squier.
you're right, it is the squier. but its also the fender active 5 string jazz but oddly not the passive.

i may be wrong, but dont the fender 5 string jazzes have the smaller machine heads and all 5 in a row at the top of the headstock, rather than the 4+1 like this has?
it's pretty simple. If there is a big drop in volume and bass when you put them together chances are it's out of phase. Just switch the wires for one of the pickups round the other way and it should be fine.
ahh cheers, i think you're right, ill give that a go sometime
-
Are you sure the two pickups are in phase with each other? If the polarity of one is reversed then you only get the difference of the two signals, which would only be the trebly end.
that sounds about right. how do i make sure if they are in phase with each other? and fix it if not?
i want to play, i want to create with people and for people. always have done. im not in to this bedroom hero crap.
bedroom hero crap? i play in a band, but that doesn't mean i dont enjoy sitting down and playing by myself.

why give up? even if its just messing around occasionally, its still a hobby.
Thanks dude, the solos book is coming along nicely...just very slowly!!! Stu
ooh is this book going to have the solo version of the simpsons theme tune in? if so hurry up with it please, i'm looking forwards to attempting to learn it and giving up after the first two bars.

i love that precision, its about the only bass with gold hardware i do like mind, but even so, its so... i cant think of a word for what i mean, but its really cool..

because of this thread, i spent my whole IT lesson listening to the ramones. you guys just got me in the mood to listen to their songs. poison hearts another great song, although its not really what i think of when i think the ramones. sheena is a punk rocker, i wanna be sedated, and blitzkrieg bop are my favourite songs with that classic pop-punky ramones sound. would you class the ramones as pop-punk? pop-punk makes me think of newer bands, blink 182, sum 41, nfg etc. but i'd say the ramones are pop-punk, they're definatly huge influences on new pop-punk if not.

Can anyone recommend any songs with good basslines?
any other bands that have songs with nice bass lines,. Preferably not too quick an bass orientated.
blink 182? -
wow, there are some great looking basses going here. that jazz is one of the nicest looking jazzes i've seen (i love bright basses though, i'd much rather a sparkly blue jazz to a classic looking one, in say sunburst or white). those peaveys are just great looking basses in general. and do those yamahas remind anyone else of the ibanez ATK range?

I have to get a fender and I dont like them Dohhh

i like the vintage modified on ebay someone posted earlier, thats what i'd go for. but if you really want 2 pickups and active, i'd go for this, not sure about how much they usually cost, but that seems a decent price for what it is. -
my only criticism is that BGM don't review enough cheap - mid range stuff, there's very rarely basses below £600 in there, and a lot of those seem to be reviews of very cheap beginner basses, things that are £100-£250, and so when i'm looking for a new bass in my price range, i have to go through pretty much every issue we own to get very little information. but reading some of the points that people have made, i agree with most of them, although its never really been an issue for me. i'm not really a cover to cover reader, i flick through the pages looking at pictures and only read when something catches my attention, or if i'm looking for something specific. i normally read bass reviews though, and sometimes interviews if its with a player i listen to.
Pfft, heathens, throw of your left handed shackles like I did and play righty! I bet some of you even use your mice in left hand, freaks!

oh god no, thats just wierd... When I play cricket I bat right handed and bowl lefty
i'm a lefty, but i play bass right handed. however, i do use my mouse with my left hand (i'm equally good with both, but more comfortable with my left). and i play cricket the same as josh, bat right handed bowl lefty (i'm equally terrible with both, but more comfortable with those hands)
I got Jon Shuker to fit a MusicMan pickup to my Japanese Squire P. Because both the P pickup and the MM pickup are designed to be full range solo ones it sounds massive when they are used together. Used it live a couple of times and it had a tendancy to actually dominate the mix a bit too much. I thoroughly recommend adding a 2nd pickup to your P!
i'm in love with your bass... also, everyone says it sounds massive when both musicman and p pickups are used together, but when i use them both it sounds thin and nasal, i hate the sound of them together. does anyone know why that might be? its not just personal taste either, if people said it sounded good thats one thing, but its definatly not massive.
