1. whats with the gap between the neck and the pickguard? EDIT: gap in the pickguard, i realise theres no gap in the body and it wont make any difference except the way it looks.
  2. get a righty one and put it on upside down.
  3.
Is there a Jack Bruce sig?
warwick do one i think
  4. take a squier classic vibe jazz, put a fretless neck on
  5.
Do it - you'll have a great time, and a good bass - BB
ooh did you make that on the shuker course? thats nice. it has quite an ibanezzy look to it.
  6. you know what's wierd? i think the green one with the pink plate is by far the ugliest, yet i really want one at the same time.
  7. as a matter of interest, how did you get that squeak?
  8. ahh a soundgear and an ashdown, what i (pretty much) learned to play on. i had a few basses before the soundgear, but i didn't like any of em much until i got my soundgear, it just felt right. admittedly they were different models, i use an SR500 and my ashdown was a five fifteen. the SR series are all lovely basses, and good luck with learning to play!
  9.
At least it's in better nick than paul simonon's.
i'd rather simonon's though, i'd stick it up next to my poster of the london calling album cover. good conversation starter, even for people who don't know anything about basses. EDIT: oh, just noticed they got it up next to a poster of the london calling album cover... my idea doesn't seem as good any more

    THE GAS THREAD
Yeah, they are quite cool, though I always considered them to be more of a P with a J style pickguard/control plate. Also, I guess you've heard Blink have are reforming.
i dunno if you've noticed, but theres no control plate, its a 1 piece pickguard. when you think about it, if you were to buy a mex precision and put a quarter pounder pickup in, you've got a better bass, cos its just the same but with a tone control and a different shaped body. doesn't stop them being much cooler though
  11. +1 to the vocalist, this would be absolutely brilliant if there was a vocalist in the mix! as far as instrumentals go, this is one of the most interesting i've heard. but, especially with it being six minutes long, i think anyone but another musician would get bored of it, which is why i think you need vocals. i enjoyed that, but i wouldn't want to listen to a whole album of just music, but if you had vocals and all your songs were up to that standard, i'd buy it! i'm looking forward to hearing your next song, with or without vocals.
  12. good bass playing, whats with the silly voice though? i'd like to hear that without the high pitch voice, it'd be excellent.
  13. pictures? i want to see your jazz anyway, it looks cool in your avatar but i can't really see it properly. EDIT: ooh i found you're gear porn thread, its a great looking bass! but i always thought it was purpley maroony, not black. black looks better anyway.
  14.
Aye, bar shall be open Any requests regarding food?
ooh little cocktail sausages!!!
  15.
I'm a bit nervouse about having to carve the neck by hand as I'd be worried about it just coming out a mess. I'm also nervous about how the fret slots are cut as I imagine it's easy to make a mess of the fretboard.
don't worry about the neck, i was worried about that but jon won't let anything bad happen. it takes so long that before you can do any damage jon will have stopped you. it's fairly simple, too, once you know what you're doing? are you right handed? if so you'll use the correct tool for the job, i had to use a file cos jon didn't have a lefty tool the frets are easy, jon has a machine. IIRC the only way you can go wrong is by not applying enough pressure onto the fretboard when moving it across, but jon will explain about that. don't be nervous about any of it, it's actually quite easy if you do what jon says. oh, and just so you know, the basschat member jono has been on the 5 person course, but i've not seen him post in a while.

ooh i'll also add the bass i've had GAS for pretty much since i began playing bass and never got round to buying - mark hoppus jazz, preferably in white, but any colour would make me happy. i dunno why i never got round to getting one, i suppose they're too expensive, and you don't see many second hand. i'm not sure what it is about the hoppus jazz, i'm more of n active bass person really, but i think its something to do with the sheer simplicity of the bass. it could also be that blink 182 were my favourite band for ages, and theyre still one of my favourites now. i don't know really, but theres still GAS for a hoppus jazz bass there, deep down, i've just learned to live with it. i still get that twinge of longing when i see one though.
  17.
only 20 frets? how will he be able to play the high bit in "By the way"? (IIRC that goes up to the high F on the 22fret Modulus)
it does go to the 22nd fret, but he got by with a 21 fret jazz, didn't he? i dunno what he did though, when i saw them live he played his modulus.
  18. have you seen the newest edition of BGM? doesn't completely answer you're question, but there's a fender precision bass round up, comparing lots of fender's most popular precisions. i'm sure that'd be helpful. EDIT: that includes squiers, too
  19. this is a great looking bass, it really is. i'm looking forward to seeing it finished. tell jon to hurry up
  20. only just seen this! yeah, excellent course! definatly worth it, the taitycaster is now my main bass, and is perfect in my eyes. its a great week, if youve got the money and want to do it, go for it. if you've got any questions that you need answering from the point of view of someone whos done it, PM me. oh, and you said about the one of 5 guitars. thats for the 5 person course, which is about £600 IIRC. they're also only held at certain times, i remember i had to wait a good few months if i wanted to do the 5 person course. if you want to do the one-to-one course, you can do pretty much anything you want, and much sooner, but for about a grand. jon quoted mine at £950 but then i added the precision pup so i paid £990 in the end. that reminds me, i've still got to pay my parents back for that (i have got the money, honest) you can see the outcome in my avatar, or in the link my dad (simon1964) posted.
  21.
Sounds like a smart move, surprised he is only doing it now. He must be one of the best known mainstream bass players out there so for a lot of people looking to pick up a bass for the first time or as a backup, to have something with such a high profile player's name on it for such a low price is fantastic. I can't see him doing a higher spec version unless it is going to be made by a well known company.
good point, i suppose no one wants to pay a grand for a bass no one's had any experience with before, not even with the company.
  22. it suprises me flea hasn't gone for a musicman pickup or an active EQ this time. also, is that circle a pickguard, or just painted on? it looks painted on to me. actually, i'm suprised flea hasn't got a more expensive version out, more "mature" colours, a 3 band EQ, the a musicman pickup, more like you'd expect flea himself to play.

i don't know if thats really ugly, or really cool, or maybe both.
  24.
Excellent advice - in fact this one looks cracking value http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=41709 But if you don't buy that, I would certainly look at some of the Japanese models. My 70s re-issue is a fantastic bass for the money.
i'd seriously recommend going for that, i've played it, it's absolutely lovely. or like simon1964 says, his 70's reissue is great, so +1 for the japanese precisions.
