1.
oooh, i wouldnt mind some picture of my in progress bass (not sure how much is even done), last time i checked the neck was being worked on. jet king shaped body with darkstars and blocked neck etc for anthony wright.
i bet thats gonna look great! what finish you going for?
2. about £1000 i think. im not 100% but i think it was £950 for the course, and that includes all the woods and stuff, but then you have to pay extra for pickups, hardware etc.
3. I don't know whether i can saw straight... yet
4. i love these, they look like thunderbrids (IMO one of the coolest looking guitars out) but with a p/j pickup combo. good luck with the sale!
5.
It was funny the first time.....and even funnier now

MB1. Might pay to lark around the top of the list! BUMP!

MB1. Looks like we are in for some more larkin about! .........Mancunian Windy Bump!
thats what you get for encouraging him
6. i love soundgears, i have an SR500, which is my favourite bass ive ever played, (even if my precision does get played more, and gets to be in my avatar) and i those more expensive ones must be just brilliant to play. what are the controls there? im guessing that, like on the SR500, the two top knobs are volume and blend, but then on the SR500 there are three knobs for treble/middle/bass, but on there its stacked knobs.
7. this monday-friday im going on a five day course with jon shuker, where he takes you through building a bass guitar and you get to keep what youve built at the end of it. there are two courses available, the five person one where you get a choice between building a precision or jazz (which jono has been on), but im going on the one-to-one course where you build a bass more to your specifications. i thought id put up a five day build diary for everyone to see my progress through the week. I'll try and post everyday, but i might be staying in a hotel for one night, in which case ill text simon1964 so he can tell you what ive been up to. so heres my basic spec that im going with: -precision width neck -seymour duncan quarter pounder p pickup -seymour duncan ceramic musicman pickup -ash body -wenge neck/wenge fretboard -seymour duncan 2 band eq -controls are volume/treble/bass with a mini toggle switch for pickup select -natural with black pickguard the shape's going to be like this what do you think?
8. dunno, im sure plenty of shuker owners out there are content, i'm sure i will be after my five day course with him, and thats not even a real shuker!
9. there has to be something on ebay to suit your needs... a wesley or something... for that price its never going to be a brilliant bass so i'd go more on what you like the look of most. also, have you thought about an old ibanez or cheap japenese copy from that sort of era, i dont think they reach much higher than £100 (i may be wrong, ive never really been interested in them).
10. oooh, thats nice. a very cool looking bass. i always think chrome knobs make a huge difference to how a jazz looks, ive never liked the plastic ones.
11. i was hoping it sold, i was thinking i could get some gaffer tape on mine, sell it and make a fortune on it. oh well...
12.
The pickup has been changed to a Wizard Thumper, but the original pickup will be included in the sale.
damn. that solves that one.
13.
100% original apart from the volume and tone knobs (the pots are original). The pickguard is completely original with no cracking whatsoever. The chrome pickup cover and original strap buttons will be included.
am i the only one who is sure thats a seymour duncan pickup in there? surely in 1976 fender didn't supply their basses with seymour duncans? i dont think hes trying to rip anyone off because he has 100% positive feedback, im just a bit confused as to why theres a seymour duncan pickup in it (or at least, i think there is) when he says its all origional.
14. im going on a shuker course in 2 weeks time, where you build a bass to your specifications in 5 days one to one with jon shuker. the base cost is £950 and that includes all woods but you have to pay extra for pickups and hardware - i decided on that because its a shuker quality bass without the wait and i get to do it myself! i chose what i wanted easily, i love the sounds of precisions and stingrays, the p bass neck and the telecaster deluxe body shape. my dad has a warwick and i have an ibanez with a wenge neck so i decided to go for wenge. my SR500 has a 3 band eq but i never use the mid control, and the warwick has a 2 band eq, so i figured id go for a 2 band eq on it with a 3 mini toggle switch as a pickup select because they look cooler than any other switch. im going to put up a build diary on the sunday before i go, but ill post my specs here now so that you can get the basic idea: telecaster deluxe shape precision width neck seymour duncan quarter pounder p pickup seymour duncan ceramic musicman pickup ash body wenge neck/wenge fretboard seymour duncan 2 band eq controls are volume/treble/bass with a mini toggle switch for pickup select white or black finish (i haven't decided yet) with black pickguard well, thats how mine came to fruition (whatever that means). by the way, im guessing shukers going to have to stop building for a week to do my course, so i want to apologise to everyone out there with a shuker bass on order - its going to be five days later than it would have been because of me
15. nice, but not in the sunburst, the turquois one is nicer IMO
16. ooooh, sounds good. looking forward to this being finished.
17.
I really like thelook of the artist singlecut! http://www.shukerguitars.co.uk/scgal.htm (scroll down) very nice.
not a fan of the artist much, im afraid, but i do like that headless on there i do like the new galleries, they got much more pictures on. my favourite bass on there is the very bottom one on the through neck gallery (i realise that was there before he updated the galleries. i got the feeling someone was going to point that out)
18. oooh, a hard one... ive never played the SRX but own the SR500 and my dad owns an ATK, which are both brilliant basses, so I'd be tempted to go with the ibanez, but when i bought my precision i tried out both the passive and active version of the yamaha, and the passive was VERY nice (i didnt rate the active much, though, tbh). so i really dont know... what a lot of help i am
19.
If you want more (heaps) sustain and tops try a Badass 3 bridge. They are more the footprint of a standard Fender plate rather than the Badass 2 which isn't as asthetically pleasing. Just my opinion. The 203 Gotoh sound like a nice compromise between a Badass and a standard plate. I'm thinking of trying one on my SX on OldGits recommendation.
i think the badass 2 looks much better than the 3, but i suppose its just an opinion. it also depends what look you're going for, if you want a vintage look about it a badass 2 isn't a great option, but on the other hand, if yo0u want it to look a bit more modern, the badass 2 looks great. for example, the badass 2 fits in with the whole black and chrome look of my p in my avatar, because its a chunk of chrome lol.
20. my dad bought a mexican p and a fretless fender neck, its a great sounding bass. I'm suprised there isnt an american standard fretless p when there is an american standadrd fretlesss jazz
21.
New site new site! woh!!! there's a few familiar faces on there now and some gorgeous basses!!!
you're on there aren't you dood? im pretty sure i spotted a pic of you and your bass on the artists section.
22. that has to be the stupidist way to stop neck dive ever thought of...
23. my first thought was the gibson grabber that was out with the sliding pickup, but allighatt0r beat me to it. the grabbers a much nicer looking bass, IMO. the one you've just pointed out was pretty ugly, i don't like it much.
I think it would be rather fun, with the addition of a windscreen wiper motor. Sort of pickup equivalent of the Leslie speaker. I can imagine Fender bringing out the Precision version of the Grabber. "Take our revolutionary moveable pickup. Slide it towards the neck for a deep dull thud. Slide it towards the bridge for a bright high dull thud. Or slide it anywhere between for any sound you want, as long as it's a dull thud."
lol.
24.
How much would that cost?
not too much, thats pretty much what i did with my squier, tbh. i cant really remember, but i think it was less than £100. has anyone said ashtrays yet, i cant see anything about them? they look cool but get in the way...
25. rage against the machine, red hot chili peppers, the clash, the stranglers, guns n roses are my first thoughts. but i agree with bigbeefchief, it depends what you listen to.
