Samock P-bass

its not going to be as good as a $$ in a million years. if you want to replace it with a p bass get a decent quality fender or a sandberg or something. i havent played the samick, but im pretty sure that youd regret getting rid of you $$ for it.
2. personally, I'd put a BADASS II on, either seymour duncan quarter pounders or EMGs, a black pickguard (but tort would look good, too) and put a fender logo on. EDIT: acidbass, just read your suggestion for a thumbrest. that wouldn't be a bad idea either.
3.
I was originally looking at perhaps an Ibanez SR505. Im just really stuck as to what to look at. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Some good suggestions above. I've just bought an Ibanez ATK305. They're certainly worth a look. I've never got on with 5 strings before, but this is really playable, and very versatile.
Go for either of the ibanezes, ive played simon1964s ATK and its a great bass, definatly the sort of tone you were describing. I own the SR500 (four string version of SR505) and play punk music, its definatly what you'd want, I love it! I'd highly reccomend both ibanezes, absolutely brilliant basses. Just want to point out that the ATK has a wider neck than the SR. By the way, is it ibanezes? if not, what is the plural of ibanez?

More P Basses

two great looking basses there!
I dont know if its possible. but have you tried swapping the necks?
+1, that would look really good, and you would save having to buy a fretted neck like you said you were thinking....
5. this was mine for a while before my dad (simon1964) sold it to bassmankev. its a great bass, definatly worth taking a look at. the only reason i sold it was i dont like five strings much. BUMP for a great bass!
6. beedsters collection of 70s precisions. i cant decide on one of them, maybe this one
7. it was quite good first time i heard it, but six millionth time it gets annoying!
8. sounds live is a cool site, ive never seen it before! has it got pictures of every bass on there? what a great site!
9. what colour is this and do they do precisions in it? its a lovely colour!
10. +1 for duncan quarter pounders EDIT: plus another 1 for EMGs, both great pickups
11. i think it looks good as it is, dont bother changing it. EDIT: if you do change it, dont go for tort! EDIT 2: by the way, what colour is that? and is it a mex standard?
12.

thats one nice looking bass! it would look even better with a precision pickup (ive never been a fan of darkstars), but the pearl with the blocks is SO cool!

thunder lakky!?

i dont like it much. the epi thunderbird is one of the coolest looking basses out, but this... something isn't quite right. i THINK it would look better with a black headstock and rosewood fretboard, but im sure someone will disagree about the rosewood bit
14. damn! i was really looking forward to seeing a singing chicken...
15. i think it looks better than the attitude.
16. whilst we're on the subject of people who play with picks, did tim crommerford ever play with a pick? he doesn't really seem like the kind of player who would use a pick, and in most pictures hes using his fingers, but im sure ive seen a picture where he's almost definatly using a pick.
17.
But I *think* that's MIM... and no maple 'board.
course it is!
18. people have complained about the contouring and the pickup- theres always the mike dirnt sig if you want one just for the way it looks. thats not slab bodied and has a precision pickup, but has the 51 shape.
19. cos if one instrument dies there are fifty billion others anyway, so you never notice.

custom bass?
Tell him we sent you .....
do you think he realises that we talk about him so much on this forum?

my three

you don't like controls much, do you ? I like them (except maybe the blue strings lol), especially the black p. you cant beat an all black p with a maple board. What size neck has the P Special got, btw? Is it jazz or Precision, i get the feeling its jazz, right?
22. I think you do need a backup bass. You say you've gone so many years without needing one, but it takes one gig where your bass fails and you're screwed. You'll regret it if you don't have one when you need one. As for if it needs to be similar, as long as you're comfortable with it and it sounds and looks right with your band, then it doesn't have to be similar to your main bass (unless your super famous for playing a certain bass, which I'm guessing you're not).
23.
That link isn't working for me.
or me
24. harmony seems to fit best, but i think it should be called a zindango from now on!
