Depends on your budget, but have a look at the Ibanez stuff. The SR500 is amazingly good value.
+5,467,322 I play one of these and it is the BEST bass in the world for its money. Its roughly £300 and as good as any of the warwicks or fenders my dad owns, in my opinion. A lakland (im not sure which one) has the same pups and electronics as the SR500 and costs double the money. Its only so cheap because Ibanez isn't a huge name (if it was exactly the same but with a fender logo on the headstock it would cost at least £500, if not more). I would never sell my SR, its just too good in my opinion. The only down side is the very small neck if you like a chunky neck, but I prefer a slim neck anyway. BUY ONE!!!!!!!
You should get a Vintage Modified Squier Jazz Bass , they are awesome basses for the money
I haven't played one but I've only heard good stuff about them. Seems worth the buy to me.
ibanez SR 505 is very good indeed, GAK have it for £389, seems the price has dropped since i bought my SR500

+1 for all the Ibanez suggestions, but do try the string spacing. The SR505 is great, but the string spacing is very tight. If you can find one, have a look at either the Ibanez RD605 or 905. Second hand you could probably find either a MM Sub or Warwick Corvette - both well worth looking at.
+1, i play a sr500 and its a great bass, definatly worth getting one if you can. what simon1964 said about the string spacing is true though, its very tight on the four string, never mind the five string.

the pearl looks good on that geddy lee, and that str*t is very cool.
Many years ago, the Jonathan Ross show had a big funk band on called... "Steve Naiive & those rocking sailors on the psychadellic sea of groove!"
yeah, but I wouldn't really take a name from a band on Jonathan Ross. after all, his current band on the show are called "four poofters and a piano".
The inebriated goldfish? The skydiving penguins? Never a dull day (shortens to the nadds haha) Hmmm, Band the?
The skydiving penguins. Sounds good to me. Another way to think up a name I heard about was to listen to your favourite band (or one playing similar music to your own) and either take the name of a song or a phrase from a song.

I'm going Saturday. Is there a Peavey stand, I checked when ordering tickets but I've forgotten now. I'm not a fan of Peaveys but I just love that stand!
Hee hee, my suggestion for a very short reply would be.... "Hi, thanks for the email. I'm guessing from your comments that you may yourself be a musician? If so, we had a gig you didn't ner ner" Mature aren't I?
haha, i prefer this to 3v17c's reply. short and to the point on the other hand, i loved the webbed feet and the mother/sister thing, i was rolling with laughter.

wow, that looks cool with no controls.
That is a sexy Jazz you have there mate - only thing that would make it better would be a maple neck with black block inlays and binding, like th Geddy Lee Jazzers have! Sublime work my man!
thats just what i was thinking! anyway, thats a really cool looking bass you got there.

those machine heads just look plain stupid, couldn't he at least gor elephant ear ones before putting the bass on ebay?

Tried to learn my first Slap Tune last night.
Higher Ground, RHCP is the first I learnt. Helps build up muscle memory for sure and speed also. Practise this solidly (til you're incredibly bored/sore) then apply the technique you've acquired to anything else and it will seem a lot easier. Rinse, repeat. Remember, economy of movement is vital for playing fast and complex slap rudiments and lines.
its the first slap song i learnt, too. then can't stop by the red hot chilis. has anyone say make sure your thumb is tensed, you can't slap with a floppy thumb. -
i always wanted a bass like that- black, black headstock, no scratchplate- but with just a split pickup like a normal p bass
-
how do you tune a seven string (in standard tuning, of course)? is the extra string lower than the B or higher than the C?
-
Mmm, shiny. Very nice work, but needs more strings.
in my opinion, any bass with more than four strings needs less. after all, jaco never used a five string. nor does victor wooten. or flea. or les claypool. or most of the great bass players.

its nice in black, isn't it? whats the contemporary range, by the way? I've never heard of it.
