If you can't read, how do you know that it offers no benefit at all?
Ok maybe i should have typed - It has not hindered me so far.........................There has not been one point were my playing has been "compromised" by not being able to understand the dots and squiggles!
  2. I cannot read a single note, I too am self taught, and there are somethings the i struggle with, but I just push on and get there in the end. As far as learning new stuff (covers) i normally print of the Tab, and spend some time on you tube watching other people play it! Has worked for me, and in my situation, being able to read music offers no benefit at all!
  3. http://www.andertons.co.uk/misc-guitar-acc...less-system.asp looks like a good alternative to the line g30 etc!
  4. Dont suppose you fancy a swap for my Hartke HA3000 Head i am selling?
  5. Up for grabs, my 'ol trusty HA3000 amp head Has been rock solid for over a year, but its just been replaced by a HA3500 (in the pic too!) A few scuffs on the top etc but nothing major. The only issue is the post EQ effects send/return line needs to be bridged with a patch lead, have been assured that its just sticky contact in the jack socket,And there is no issue to run it how I have! good loud amp, looking for £110.00 collected OVNO, its a heavy thing so I will be post at your expense, you are more than welcome to pop down and play it if you wish! cheers BP Edit to Add, might be interested in a trade for a bass, or delay effects - that kind of thing!
  6. My modest rig - My Bass's - My Bands owns studio -
  7. not on a board....yet as I want to complete my collection before I make one! but a good start I think!
  8. I too like these, not only do they look cool, but they could also be functional! TBH for the cost of a few LED's and resistors, it should be pretty easy to knock some up. I will have a look/play, see what i can knock up!
  9. Evening all, Was thinking of 'maybe' putting a Tweeter in my Hartke 4x10TP Cab, I have access to to a 2 x way X-over, but not sure of the power rating, but can anyone advise me, Suppose I am just looking for a bit more 'seperation' and it appears the higher up cabs have them fitted, so I was thinking there must be a benefit? Any Experience? cheers BP

  14.
justin chancellor doesn't use his very often. They're lots of clones out there his is a jumbo one i think though so you might be worth looking at big muffs or the coloursound bass fuzz
He seems to have a fair bit of fuzz going on, turbo rat as well! I recently bought a way huge swollen pickle, and with the whammy, it nails the schism section! Wish i has not seen : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Kat6WNUS-k its really hurt my wallet!
  15.
Being unimpressed doesn't make it a bad instrument. Wal's will not suite everyone, no one bass does, but that’s hardly the fault of the bass.
Dont get me wrong I wasn't saying it was a bad instrument. Infact the tone was huge and it sounded beautiful, but.....it was not the tone I thought it would be if that makes sense. Maybe given more time with it, I would have got closer, who knows? Ive had a few conflicting reports, one bass player told me that the wal IS the key to Justin's tone, and nothing else get close, another player told me, they are not, and a sansamp is all you need. In the end I bought a Bddi, @ £180.00 a lot less than a Wal, and I am more then happy, last night we rehearsed, playing many Tool songs, and playing schism and 46&2 was just unreal, everyone commented on how much I have nailed the tone. I do still really want a Wal though, as i love the look of them if nothing else, but just now, for me its not the "holy grail" that I thought it would be!
  16.
+1 That was my experience with playing them. Although I do regret not purchasing a WAL Mk 2 5 string for $2000AUD in 1998. At the time that was about £750 and it was a spectacular bargain. Wals were very uncommon in Australia and it just wasn't selling. I can't imagine you'd lose a lot of money "Investing" in a Wal, but the market does seem quite varied. Sometimes they go for a premium, sometimes they seem to be more reasonably priced. I have an ACG on order with the filter based preamp. I'm keen to see how close it sounds to a Wal. I have similar electnics on a bass that has the Alembic SIgnature series electronics, they are very flexible, but I generally prefer basses with simple or no EQ. As for whether they are worth the price? Well, if you want a Wal, you have to pay the price of admission. You can get just as well made basses and similar electronics packages for less, but if you want a Wal, there is no other way to do it!
Please keep me posted on that ACG pre, was looking at putting one in my Nez.

    hi

Welcome - Tis a great place!
  18. Time to bring this one back -Why, well, I finally played a Wal, and I was not impressed, maybe it was a bad'un, who knows? The sound was massive for sure, but as for satisfying my tone chasing - nope, Sansamp Bddi, new strings got me the tone I was looking for. I still love the look of the MK2, but now i am happy to wait until they become more affordale or money more abundant! Just to say thanks again to you lot for your advise - very glad I did not buy one blind! (I bid up to 1500 on ebay before re-thinking!)
  19.
Nope, they want punters in to drink their beer .... they don't really care about the music content so much..well, some do, but most can't afford to. If you are an originals band and can tell the londlord you'll get 100 in and be good on your word..he'll love you...even if he is upstairs with headphones on...
+1
  20. I really cant see how it matters what you play, its a bit of a Pi$$ing competition really is it not? My band play all covers, and all are always greatly received, and it a great feeling when you can nail the tune, the tone and the feeling of that song. We are writing our own stuff, but to be honest for now they are no-where near as good as the covers we do....yet. Surely it matters not what you play original or covers? As long as you are playing, for YOUR reasons whatever they may be? Does it make us lesser players just because we play covers, because that how I perceive some of the comments in this thread. The Last gig, the owner made a comment to me....."You are one hell of a bass player, I've played bass for over twenty years and the stuff you are doing is just amazing!", its just a great feeling to know you reach people on different levels huh! Peace
  21.
Cheers for the reply. Im not after any real distortion or overdrive but i do have the drive on the BDI21 at about 9 o'clock, and it sound just enough but i do hear the same as you, it does sound a bit digital. Fine in a band mix but at home its more prominent. So the BDDI is a bit more natural sounding is it? Then i think its worth getting one. Its a shame i didnt grab one on here a while ago, they all seem to have dried up now. Im in central London so thanks for the offer but im a bit to far away to come over. If i order it on line i cna always send it back if i dont like it so its not really a big gamble.
I think if you was to get one, you would not regret it! Hell, i have now stuck my boss ME20b, Behringer and Hartke VXL on the ol bay, the are truly redundant! as another example i have THIS tone now - and that makes me very happy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=loJ_3hXHNBY
  22.
Very timely response as im doing a lot of reading at the moment to see if its worth me getting a BDDI or Paradriver, or sticking with the BDI21. I am tempted to go for the BDDI as i do like what im getting out of the BDI21 at the moment. Can you comment on the difference in tone between the two?
I found the BDI21 very good, dont get me wrong and as stated previously its great for the money, and does give a good tone, but i just felt it didnt do the job for me, kind of sounding "artificial" and a bit to "digital" if that makes sense. I play a lot of Tool stuff, and am a bit of "tone Chaser" and when i tried the Sansamp, with a p bass!, and a small solid state amp, i was literally blown away, the guy in the shop actually came over to listen, i was playing schism, and his comments were " You couldnt sound any more like Justin Chancellor if you tried" That sold it for me, It has such a nice warm gritty tone, and has bags of bottom end.I got my perfect setting within seconds. there is a good clip on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG9OJdPtb5I, may help you! Im an colchester, so if you are local, you are more than welcome to come over for a try if you wish!
  23.
Mine just sits on top of my amp so no danger of it getting broken. I also can live without it if it packed up. But for some reason I still want a BDDI. It just looks slot better and has more output options.
I too have a BDI21, and a hartke VXL, trying to get the same tone as mr Chancellor, Well yesterday I bit the bullet and bought a BDDi, and to say I am happy is an understatement. The difference between this and my other 2 pedals is huge! cant recommend it enough!
