Well, here is Darth's bass. I wacked on the Neon green DR's (they feel strange, kinda squeeky under the fingers?) But, I think it looks good huh? All in all at the moment, it stands me in about £54.00 plus some time. I still have the pre-amp to fit, but before I spash out on the pukka Musicman stingray 2EQ copy I will just role with my old Ibanez 2 EQ one until I am sure I like it. I will give it a good blast at tomorrows Jam session!

Making your own cables - where to buy materials?
blind pilot replied to lanark's topic in Accessories and Misc
Or check out lava cables, they are solder free, and look excellent! -
ok, I now have a boss TU-2 inbound, so I will move this on, I will be honest, and although it works on bass, it does struggle a little bit to pick up lower tunings, dropped d, b etc. I have been using it for best part of a year, so its not a major ball ache, but I would rather be honest! I will miss the way it lights up my amp though! £20.00 + postage seems too cheap really, but hey ho! Price drop to £15.00 plus P&P
I've never been a fan of L42, but he seems like a nice genuine, down-to-earth guy as well. Full marks for donating some really good items. More people should take note from what he's doing. What I really like is that this is the first I've heard of it - how many people make a massive PR song and dance when doing such a thing? He's really gone up in my book.
what he /\ said!

If the body is good, and has no knocks/dings etc, then 'key' the surface with some 600 grit wet/dry paper, (used wet it cuts better and it cleaner, less dust). then use some filler primer, Halfords stuff is great as it is nice and thick, build it up with lots of thin coats. this is the important bit, flat that back again, with 600. when this is nice and smoth, get some tack cloth or paint preperation wipes, and get it super clean, I mean really really clean, then a good few thin coats of your base colour and more coats of clear lacquer. when its hardened off, then go over it with some 2000+ grit to flat it back, and then use a polishing compound such as G3, then polish! with a bit of practise you can easily get a showroom finish! see here > http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry1264092
I could certainly try and measure it for you? Postage would still be less than a Ken Smith pot from the US though (Yes ,Yes I know the price was set by UPS Blah blah it was a joke). A lot of places will make you one using the old one as a template. Gloss black like a pre EB has would look tasty
I will have a bash i think, we have a band saw at work Just got (via here) some nice green neon DR strings to wack on, if darth vader had a bass.....it would be this one!
I'm not sure, If you were nearer I would gladly whip one for you to try. Obviously you have no wheel of fortune so there will be an unused slot for that unless you fit a genuine pre EB one but that would be both hard to find and about £100+ at least. You could get one made from yours as a template though?
I could photocopy my one and send it to you lol! not sure what the postage to button moon would be though I will have a think about making a black one for it!.
MusicmanStingray MysoniSagay
Prime, dont think he is though, he (at the age of 7) told me he only watches Britains go talent(or some programme like that), because of Amanda Holden and how he wants a wife that looks like that!

Cheers Pete, I like it! I know its not the real thing but one step closer lol. I am thinking it really needs a black pick guard though, as the white looks out of place. But would a pukka one fit? This is the question!

so its gone from this > to this> I think I have improved it somewhat!
-
keep the ideas coming guys! anyway, its all bolted together, and looking rather swish. Still a little more flatting and polishing required in places, but I need the lacquer to harden fully for that to happen. just needs the pre-amp and strings, and a set up, and its ready to rock!

Got the body coated in primer Then got some colour on Needs a couple more coats of laqcuer, then flat, mop and polish, going to turn out quite tasty. I had to put a fair bit of filler in, as there was lots of digs and scuffs, but it has turned out nice - will get some more lacquer on next week, then should get it built up later in the week! Need to save some pennies for the pre-amp, but its taking shape!
Is that another one of those "active-to-passive conversion" jobs?
Lol. not this one will be passive to active innit!
I always meant to have a 'Rickenfecker' truss rod cover made for my CMI Rick copy... Never got round to it though. As for the bass in the OP, I would leave it blank, for mystery and intrigue. If you put a Musicman logo on it the only people who would notice it would most likely be the only ones who would recognise it as not being authentic. Any chance of seeing some more pics of the bass? I'm intrigued now, a passive Stingray...
see this thread for the original (very poor) pictures http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...p;#entry1258570

Humerous spoof it is then......so come on you creative low enders, give me you best suggestions.......and for fun I will then start a poll and the winner goes on! original wording should be musicman stingray..........over to you lot!
-
I was thinking of changing the wording to maybe "musicfan". I would say it is a keeper though, as the passive tone was huge, and clanky, so I am hopeful with the copy Ray pre-amp in, its going to sound the nut!

I recently bought a tanglewood bass of the bay, for peanuts. I played it, and liked it so have decided to mod it a little, will be painting it a nice super shiney glossy black, and sticking in a pukka copy of a stingray 2 band pre-amp, with a view to fitting a nice SD pup too. Now would it be wrong of me to make up a nice waterslide decal of a pukka Musicman logo for the headstock, so it looks the part? I must stress I am doing it for me, not to sell on as a pukka one to some poor bugger (like on recent posts here) I would just like it to look the 'part' Is that too vain of me?
Get yerself a Basslines pickup and internal preamp combo in that there bass and you'll have a beasty!
I was thinking of modding this one. I dont like the colour, thinking nice high gloss black. I does need a pre amp, as the wiring is shot. It has a pick with MEC electronics stamped in/on it. not sure if that was standard fitment, but as I say, even with the wiring bodged, it sounds real nice and clanky, think of paul d'amours tone on opiate and undertow and that is where it sits! very nice! have also found out about a stingray copy preamp, looks like a doddle to knock up , using a LM4250 chip, may have to go down that route as it should be very affordable!

It is the MM copy. I like it, and considering it was £46.00 and comes with a rather nice Stagg gig bag, Methinks I have got a bargain!
